After much debate and speculation, Paramount's Kings Island announced today their new-for-2002 attraction, Tomb Raider: The Ride. Though not a lot of information was divulged, representatives referred to the ride as a "heavily-themed, totally immersive dark ride experience" where guests would be part of the action the entire time, including while waiting in the queue.
Kings Island officials say there's nothing like it in the world. Though not a record-breaking roller coaster, the park says they're aiming for something special to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
A dark ride for PKI sounds like another good move for PKI. But Tomb Raider? I know it's a big franchise film for Paramount, but this sounds like a bit of a novelty ride. Oh well, still sounds like it will be awesome.
Now we'll proceed to hear the usual whining and complaining from spoiled coaster fans. *sighs*.
------------- There is no such thing as inner peace. There is only nervousness and death.
YES THIS RULES! I was so fearing that they were going to waste the great Tomb Raider brand on some hyper that could be simply called "Big Bertha". I'd like to see more parks develop a dark attraction line up. Though I have to admitt, I hope it is more animatronic-like along the lines of Indy, rather than another cartoony Spiderman. I wear glasses and the 3-D effects never work right over them. later days, jeremy --who notes that this particular post is sarcasm-free :)
I forgot to mention... Jeff will have pictures up later this evening. (Rumor has it there are some Tomb Raider models roaming the park. Jeff made a point to tell me he'd have pictures of that if sees any. ;))
Give the ride a chance...even if it is a simulator it has potential to be awesome. I was hoping for a coaster too, but I'm still going to go and ride this thing next year and I'll probably love it. My only concern is that a large building themed to TombRaider would ruin the atmosphere in Rivertown. It makes so much more sense to place a ride themed to a movie in the Action Zone (Face-Off, Top Gun, Congo Falls)but whatever, oh well. At least we know that nothing is going to disturb the Beast back in the woods now.

Signature Under Construction: More Thrills Coming in 2002!
PKI is/has/and always will be one of the best family parks in the World and in 2002 they are continuing with tradition. Just think about it guys. Maybe it will be the IOA/WDW of the non-Floridian states! I think all of you forgot about the rebirth of one of the most infamous coasters of the World to one of the best coasters: Flight of Fear!!! Pr that Runaway Reptar is actually a really fun kiddie coaster that's brand new, and instead of the park bringing you one motion FX theatre film they brought you two!! Two better than the ones before. I want to thank PKI for being such a great park! I know I'll be having some fun! Hopefully, this will mean better chances of Winterfest's revival with so many indoor attractions. Have fun next year! Look at how diverse our Ohio collection is. Truely the best state for thrill seekers. If this is anything like Spiderman or Indiana Jones at DL, this will be excellent!
The only question I have is if PKI kept their Adventure Village sign? I think I do like that name better than Rivertown although it's really generic. Rivertown is special, but face it, there is only one "river" left. I'm ashamed that so many of you responded like this. Just shows you that 4 coasters(I say 5) in a row won't make happy, just spoils! Blah! Come on guys! Have a little respect for them wanting to try something new. I'm guessing there will also me changes in spells and temperatures. This will be one cool ride! Hopefully it won't just be a theatre and will have actual vehicles though. I wish they would've given that part away. Let us know more when you get time Jeff! ------------- Danny

Simulators are very bad. It is probably a simulator. Maybe you disagree. Unfortunately, I don't care. I was all worked up over this thing, and I got this. And don't yell at me for not liking it. As some other person said, this is coasterbuzz not parkbuzz, so of course I'm not happy. I like coasters.
Bah.
Guess I'll just ride the other stuff.
HEEEEEEEEYYYY, this escape vehicle thing. Sounds interesting, from what I've read below. Hmm...

Before people start whining, let's do a reality check:
1972-the Racer, first coaster to race backwards. 1979-the Beast, world's tallest, fastest, longest coaster. 1984-King Cobra, world's first stand-up. 1987-Vortex, world's first coaster with 6 inversions. 1993-Top Gun, probably the most intense suspended coaster. 1996-FoF, world's first LIM coaster. 1999-Face/Off, second inverted shuttle coaster. 2000-SoB, world's tallest, fastest wooden coaster.
Is there another park in the world that has such a reputation for being first and best with everything? Not likely. Please, accept the new ride and be thankful PKI is there. Coaster enthusiasts represent about 1 percent of a parks clientele, if that.
