Patriot Goes Vertical!

The color is very important. Patriot (HELLO)

Don't get me wrong, but coming e.g. from Germany to paint a coaster in the national colors and name it "patriot" is something really out of this world.

Patriotism in Germany is something that leads to a lot of discussion and mixed emotions (probably also related to WW2 and the Third Reich etc., and the occupation of the phrase "i am proud to be german" by right-wing groups and the few neo-nazis that are around)

In Europe, most people really try to think beyond nationalism, at least that's what everybody says they do, so national symbols are generally looked upon without much emotion... to paint an amusement ride like that would be pointless and a little embarassing over here.

An exception might be "Eurostar" which has a sort-of European themeing... but "Europe" in most peoples minds, is looked upon as a state in which the national states are dissolved into a bigger, peaceful union, and was a very abstract thing at the time Eurostar was built. I think a kind of "European Pride" is only building up very slowly at present. And "European Patriotism" ... hm, sounds strange.

From a German perspective, the Patriot colors definitely look weird. (this not meant as an insult to anybody) *** Edited 10/18/2005 4:02:28 PM UTC by superman***

Point totaly taken. Good perspective. Very good.

"In Europe, most people really try to think beyond nationalism"....

You'd never hear that sort of rational thinking coming from the *America-firsters*. Even questioning the government has fallen SO out of fashion we don't even have "news" anymore, mostly just sound-bytes...where have you gone, Deep Throat? ;)

Why Gator, I do declare!!!!

Antuan - who was taken off guard for a minute, but quickly remembered the Deep Throat fiasco.

Worlds of Fun cannot win can they? You enthusiasses will find something wrong with anything they add. For once can you just be happy that we are finally getting the LONG RUMORED B&M inverted coaster? I mean it has only been rumored for almost 10 years now.

All I can say is that the paint scheme does not look that bad in real life. The ride combination will be a lot of fun and no one really gives a D@MN that it is similiar to Talon.

Just shut up, look at the pictures and wish that this sexy thing was going in at your park.

It don't have enuf loopies in it.

It's not X-treme!

Not the highest, not the fastest, not the steepest.

So it won't be good.

LOL D....

We've already moved beyond the coaster....I like Teeeaaalun a LOT, so I know Patriot is good for me. Shoot, not much could be worse than OE, that thing was replaced by not one but TWO really good rides...

But the coaster discussion ended a while ago, now we're discussing the merits of the name. Won't affect the ride one bit, I promise... ;)

Speaking of the name, they (WOF) failed to get the name trademarked. It was denied.

LOL, they gave away the name early for nothing?

By the way, why is it that of the two coasters topped yesteday, the one with the American flag on top was not The Patriot? *** Edited 10/18/2005 9:13:39 PM UTC by RavenTTD***

Swoosh: Too generic, perhaps? Patriot: Rocket in the Air or Patriot: Ultimate Escape the Ride prolly woulda passed muster, I suppose. Ergh.

Patriot: The American Scream

Seriously, will this have much effect on the park? What's the benefit of trademarking a ride name anyway? They can still sell all the overpriced collectibles. I doubt there is going to be a rash of Patriot bootlegged t-shirts or anything.

noooooooooooo
I think it is one of the best mid-size inverted layouts ever.
Who cares if it shares goodies with Talon?
...probably one of the greatest inverted coaster experiences on the planet, and I really don't care much about the color, I'll just close my eyes and let the forces wash over me.

Well, if someone else happens to have the TM, they can't use the name at all.

* True, but assuming no one does, then no one ever will for the same reason WoF was denied...right?

--I'm not sure on the actual technicality that they ran into, but there was one. It might have been that OTHER coaster that is named Patriot.

RavenTTD, B&M places the flag only after the circuit has been completed. Usually once the last piece of track is installed. Not only that, but the "topping" off as you say is not the "end" of the lift hill. Remember B&Ms have that characteristic "dip".

CPlaya, I would almost imagine that they will use the tag line "American Scream" much like Raptor: Rules the Sky and Talon: the Grip of Fear.

I think you're right on that one, Swoosh. Probably HAD to do with another COASTER already having that name... ;)

P.S. Like the new sig... :)

P.P.S. If there's one thing B&M always seems to hit home runs with, it's the inverts...I'll take wagers now that WoF sees a sizable gate increase, something on the order of 6-8%...yes, THAT good. Be thankful you didn't get a floorless like Hydra....meh, bigtime, LOL.

10-12% tends to be the norm with 'smaller' parks (i.e. million a year or somewhere in that neighborhood) and major new rides. At least it is in these parts.

Best of all, with the trailer--I mean, COTTAGE--park, it should be a record year for revenue.
