Patriot Goes Vertical!

But didn't WoF just get a major attendance boost from that spinny coaster? It's hard to keep THOSE kinds of attendance increases going on year after year (because you keep working FROM higher gate numbers)...

Revenue-wise, WoF should do *really well*. It was just such a NICE park to be at....atmosphere-wise, I thought it the nicest of the CF parks...

Under any circumstances, the White Stripes had better be playing for Grand Opening... ;)

More like spike-drop-spike-drop after the attendance numbers peak out. VF tends to bounce between 1.1 million and 1 million depending on what's new, with WT's debut and (gasp) the Galaxy Theater's opening year as exceptions.

WoF's seen better days before SFStl sucker-punched 'em with a free waterpark. I'd fully expect them to climb back to a million-attendee season for the first time in a while.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

The huge spike was in 1998 with Mamba's opening and then it has been sluggish ever since. They (CFLP) forgot that HME added something every year and the GP expected it, so when they didn't add anything in 1999 and expected to ride Mamba out a few years it really hurt them. They are learning the market FINALLY.

Since take-over from Hunt Midwest Entertainment

  • 1996 - Detonator & Ripcord
  • 1997 - Berenstein Bear Country
  • 1998 - Mamba
  • 1999 - Coasters Drive-In & Grand Prix Raceway Hurricane Falls @ OOF
  • 2000 - Boomerang & The Rock
  • 2001 - Camp Snoopy
  • 2002 - Thunderhawk
  • 2003 - Paradise Falls @ OOF
  • 2004 - Spinning Dragons
  • 2005 - PEANUTS Playhouse & WoF Village
  • 2006 - PATRIOT

But even on your list, they were always adding something somewhere. VF added absolutely nothing over the 2001 and 2002 seasons and only had a total attendance drop of 10%. What year did SFStl add their waterpark?

And Michigan's Adventure added nothing in 2003 either. For 2004 all that was added were used Swan Boats, so that's not saying much. But yet, the attendance grows. I think that one of the major things is that they've finally learned the market around Worlds of Fun, as they know who to target for advertising and stuff.

You missed my point. HME added something to BOTH parks every year (WOF & OOF).

Hurricane Harbor St. Louis was added in 1999, the year immediately after Mamba opened, thus why the attendance PLUMMETED without a new ride (non-upcharge) being added to WoF.

But if the 'something new' theory were true, why didn't those numbers correct themselves between 2000 and 2004 when SFStl wasn't adding any coasters either?

HH was SFStl's suckerpunch that WoF is still spinning from if you ask me.

so since it most likely aint going to be named patriot anymore anyone think with this late a notice they will have naming contest??????????
No--it will still be named 'Patriot'. They just can't register a trademark for the particular name 'The Patriot.' Whether or not they'll lengthen or otherwise modify the name is anyone's guess. I doubt if that will happen in '06 at all.

TBJ, Um, no one said that it wasn't going to be named PATRIOT. It just won't be PATRIOTâ„¢

CPlaya, Because Boomerang replaced Zambezi Zinger, Thunderhawk replaced Omegatron and then 2003 was a "add nothing" year plus they took out Orient Express. The general public was not too happy with the disappearing rides. They were already furious for the removal of ZZ and then with OE leaving that just made everyone more upset. Then add the fact that "Spinning Dragons replaced Orient Express" (their words not mine) you can see why there has been such an attendance issue. This take one add one thinking really hurt WOF and CFLP.

There are legendary rides that are in the memories of people and will always be there. I live in Oklahoma and when you thought about Worlds of Fun you think about the Orient Express, same as when you think of SFOT you think of Shock Wave. These coasters might be old.........but they were big news when they were constructed. When you tell people that it has been removed they don't understand. Just like Big Bend at SFOT, I think there are still people that wish that coaster was still there (I know I do).

Let the good times roll - Zingo

I live in Oklahoma

I would say probably near Bell's? Correct? ;)

You are correct sir..........what gave me away?

Let the good times roll - Zingo
Um, maybe your name ;)

Patriot has now started to go "down hill".

I'll Probably be the only Husker fan to say this but good game Tigers fans. Also Thanks for the pics swoosh I am excited for this coaster weather other people think it will suck or whatever anyone says about the color's because I like the Color's even the white stripe.
Notice that all of the steel coasters at WoF are SOME hue of red. :)
  • Mamba = magenta
  • Boomerang = orange
  • Spinning Dragons = red
  • Patriot = candy striped
  • Wacky Worm = dark yellow

lol nice we need a burgandy one down the line sometime.
Since when is dark yellow a hue of red?

Yes, it's closer than a blue or green.
Yes, it's thought of as a "warmer" color.
Yes, you need a considerable amount of 'R' in an 'RGB' spectrum to make yellow.

However, I would not consider dark yellow a hue of red. Orange is pushing it, too, although that one I can see where you're coming from.

I take it you have never had to do the color wheel paint mixing in art where you have to take a dark brick colored red and make it almost white. You go through yellow on your voyage, let me assure you.

I agree with the burgandy. Maybe we can stain Timberwolf that color after the retracking. :)

BTW: They are now working on the loop. They have all the supports up except the south tall one and the exiting one.

Just because you go through yellow doesn't make it a hue of red. I go through Delaware on my way to Maryland, but Delaware is NOT part of Maryland.
