Most coasters count controversy continues

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Magic Mountain stakes its claim on having the most coasters in the world why Cedar Point says, "Not so fast." While both parks will claim 15 coasters for the 2002 season, Cedar Point questions whether or not Superman: The Escape is actually a coaster.

Blah Blah Blah...... Magic Mountain....... Blah Blah Blah....... Cedar Point....... Blah Blah Blah!  Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah!  Who Cares???
I have an awesome idea.  I am going to open a park with 10 Family Coasters and 10 Kiddie Coasters.  Then my park will have the record and both parks can shut up about having the most!
"If apparently any attraction can be
considered a rollercoaster ride if it is attached to a "track" "
So aren't there alot of kiddy rides and flat rides on tracks?(just being a smart ass)
Big deal, who cares.  If my car holds 13.2 gallons of gas and your car hold 13.1 gallons, that doesn't nesesary mean that my car is better than yours.  Its just a #
My personal feeling is anyone who says Wicked Twister or S:UE is a coaster automatically relinquishes their right to discount S:TE as a coaster. I mean, tell me, where is the cut off? Look at the progression it went from S:TE/ToT with a single spike; to Linear Gale with TWO spikes; to S:UE/V2(squared) with one straight one twisted spike; now WT with two twisted spikes. Tell me at what point can you consider one ried a coaster and the other not a coaster.

Janice, quit crying, CP still has a portion of the record.

My question then is, why isn't Demon Drop a coaster?  It at least is a FULL CIRCUIT "coaster" and it coasts down the hill -- sort of like S:TE.

My opinion of S:TE is that it's not worth arguing it was a coaster.  When I rode it in August it was boring at best.  I mean seriously we accelerated went up then went down.  I WAITED AN HOUR FOR THIS?  Seriously, STE is not worth arguing as a coaster.

Why is it that the topics that people care about the least are the ones that otherwise lurkers respond to the most? ;)

What makes a Schwatzkopf shuttle loop a coaster and S:TE NOT a coaster??? Oh yeah, shuttle loops have the loop. Maybe if they added a loop to S:TE people would stop bagging it. It rides the track in a car that is capable of performing the same maneuvers as any other rollercoaster. It was designed to gain speed and hiehgt, thus, no additional maneuvers were included.

you know what?

CP has 15

MM has 15

DISCUSSION OVER!!!! I mean, the argument is not childish, but the " (insert park here) has more and (other park) SUX!" people are. I think that, in the public interest, we should close this thread before intense hatred develops between us. Rollercoasters are about fun....Not silly biased debates....

If you don't care about this topic, and think it's such bull ****, then WHY DO YOU EVEN CLICK ON IT?  Quit biznatchin, if you don't like it don't read it, and don't reply!!!  The worst is when someone trys to act like a moderator and say when the post is gonna close....that drives me insane!!!!

But anyway, I say their tied for most coasters.  That's my two cents.

"you give me the most gorgeous sleep that i've ever had and when it's really bad i guess it's not that bad" Underneath it all- no doubt

If Superman The Escape doesn't count as a coaster (which it does) then Wicked Twister shouldn't count because all it is is a copy of Flashback at SFMM with a twist of suspended cars and a twisty drop. That's BS that STE isn't a coaster.

I'm just happy both parks have however many Roller Coasters they have. I'm just happy to ride'em!
Please Close this Thread, the tension here is ridiculous.

First of all, leave the moderation to us. When it makes mainstream news, I'm going to post it, regardless of how inane you find the subject to be (which many of you clearly don't find inane at all if you feel you have to respond to it).

Second, just because you replace a vowel with an asterisk doesn't mean kids can't figure out what you're posting. Leave the language elsewhere, please.

Third, if you dog a park official by name, knowing full well they can't respond in a public forum, I'll boot you. That's spineless and classless. You've been warned.

This is hardly something to get excited about.

S:TE is a coaster. ToT is a coaster. Linear Gale is a coaster. Screamin' Condor (that is it's name, isn't it?) is a coaster. S:UE is a coaster. V2s (two... on SFMW's site it says V2, not V^2) are coasters. WT is a coaster. If you add them up, it makes SFMM have 15, and CP have 15. All that I care about is that SFGAm builds a few coasters and gets 15 so they can join them... Like that'll happen.

Does it really matter how many coasters a park has? no I dont think so. What really matters is the quality and theming/scenery of a coaster, sure Six Flags and go and throw 20 coasters over a barren flat dessert like terrain, and then you just have a mediocre coaster.I can see the commercial now

ok what do you like better?

Come ride our 27 Exhilirating coasters, youll be flying over Our parking lot, banging your head until your ears bleed. Afterwards you can roam around our themed villages like Looney Toon land where you can fly with Superman over our old parking lot. Like SF

or

Come ride our Scream Machines where you wil be endorfed by our spectaular theming that literally cost more than the ride itself. You will fly through caves and deep through the woods on our 7 adventurous coasters. Our roller coasters have been made sure give you a comfortable ride by being perfectly engineered by top notch manufacturers. Like Busch

To me it seems that SFMM is more like the first one(not all the way) and that CP is more like the second one( not all the way)

So it doesnt really matter if u have the record for the most coasters if half of them suck and/or are kiddy coasters, but what matters is the quality and thrillingness.

This has been an unbiased opinion by DrachenFire04, who has never been to a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park!

The problem is everyone takes this "publicity" stuff so seriously. This jockeying for position happens every day in the business world and if you step back from it and have a good laugh, you can EASILY see it's about PR, not pride.

Both parks will soon have 15 coasters. How do you make sure your upcoming addition stays in the headlines while still in the contruction stage? Re-heat a tired, five year old debate, while cunningly promoting your own similar coaster. I think it's a pretty sly move by Cedar Point.

On the other hand, SFMM remains surprisingly quiet on the subject. Why? Because they come off looking like the class act, while sucking up some free publicity of their own. While the rest of you check in with the predictable "who cares"(yeah right) and "CP Rules", I tend to regard this as good clean *fun* between two "rivals" who obviously have nothing to lose by this, and dummy could tell you the parks don't actually compete against each other or affect each others "bottom line".

The irony here(and this just cracks me up), is that  both parks are *stuck* with 15 coasters whether they like it or not. Where else but America would this feel like losing in some way.  ;)

Superman at SFMM is for sure a roller coaster. It rides like one, and is one. :)

I have a complaint about Guinness.com, it says that Oblivion is the steepest rollercoaster in the world. Isn't Hypersonic: XLC at PKD steeper?
