Michigan's Adventure Future Plans

It's time for one that MiA can justify and afford. A $9 million Impulse or a $10 million hyper doesn't make sense for a park that doesn't draw a half-million people.

Or they can get one, not draw many people who don't already live in the area anyway and you can all grow old waiting for the next thing to come.

And before we get all misty-eyed about Mr. Jourden building a hyper before selling the park, answer this....where was the promised train or the unfinished BeBop Blvd? In all likelihood, he ran the risk of sinking the park with a 'me-too' hyper himself.

The next big thing --or mid-sized thing--might be a better idea.

But Daaaaaadyyyyyyy! I want the hyper and the impulse!

What is a mid sized looping coaster running for now these days? (Also you can consider for construction that MIA is a flat area with no trees for the most part)

Also what are S&S Tower Rides running for these days?

Your mileage may vary depending on labor costs. I remember reading somewhere that Supreme Scream was $12 million. VF added towers of the same size (but a smaller decorative arch), 5-6 kiddie rides, loads of landscaping and an addition to the employee dorms for $10 million. Sooo I'd say $3 million per full-size leg (250-foot ride segment).

That having been said, a programmable twin tower would be nice. It could be three rides in one depending on the settings (Shot/Drop/Double Shot, mechanically familiar to CF maintenance folk but still unique.

Then again, with G2 and S&S both in the field, a wickedly tangled woodie with tunnels and loads of crossovers shouldn't be that hard to do in the same price range.

And to think I can get a full-sized smoked turkey leg for CHEAP....:). Somewhat more seriously, I'm willing to bet that KBF had to DO more to get those "full-sized" legs into the park and erected, considering their space issues.

Also, willing to bet that your argument regarding labor costs figures in prominently here as well.... VF and MiA may not be in labor markets quite as cheap as Wild Adventures or PCar, but I doubt it's anything like SoCal...

Only "in the undeveloped area." That's all they would say on that.

Wolf, more than likely the neighbors are being offered a big chunk of money to sell their property, and so is Jourden. Any more thoughts on this?

Guess who's back... MIA JON!

It would be good if MA put the coaster's station next to the Adventure Falls. It would bring more foot traffic over on that side of the park.

OT: why is it that CPlaya is always the "authority" in these types of threads? Not that I mind - but he always seems to pop up in them with "something" to say. ;)

I now return you to your regularly scheduled grumbling. :)

PS: CPlaya I will be invading your turf Thursday/Friday - VF will never be the same!

Does anyone know the cost of a Mid-Size looper? Can be an average or if you know specifics for a particular manufacture that info would be fine as well.

Thanx for the S&S info as far as cost goes! Speaking of S&S if they cleaned up the "lake" and placed a tower ride in the middle of it would be quite the eye catcher and give the lake a little something. If not an S&S and ride at least put some swan boats or something out there.

Way OT: Hey looka me I'm Swoosh Shady/DTN8R/Midwest-Coaster-Legitimate-Journalist-Insider-Authority-Team-Co-Captain! Waah waah waah waah CF's got it all wrong they gotta build an MF clone at WoF next month or the whole park will sink into the ground!

So there ya go, a little attention. Now you can stop hopping around wailing, "I'm the punching bag! I'm the punching bag! Over here!"

Cap'n Obvious may or may not be at the park this weekend--but fellow self-proclaimed superhero Commander Clipboard will. This mild-mannered Sunday School Youth Group leader was granted the Clipboard of Perfect Order from Chronos (mythical God of Time) and wields it to smack the SV crew into shape. Rumor has it he almost touched the SV LIMs with his Clipboard on opening day--but he was dragged away by the maintenance staff. Might he have fixed the ride a week early? The world may never know....

if they cleaned up the "lake"

Actually, the lake looked pretty good on opening day... no vegetation on the shores, sandy bottom visible along the edges. Had a slight blue/green tinge as if they had recently applied more veggie-killer to it. It looked like a real lake, not like the pond of old.

You retard ;) So will you be at the park or not?

As for WOF, if you go the the "incredibly reliable" Screamscape (LOL!) they are saying we are going to be getting a wet/dry slide (much like Waterboggan @ SDC) next year - they even have "art work." The funny thing is - the jokes on Lance this time. :) Oh and about a MF at WOF - I wouldn't want one, I think we should develop our collection of rides more first. I'm saving judgement on VF until I visit there this weekend. :)

I think that they should connect the back of the park to the st area by building a path beside wwc. Along this path they could add a "coasters" type resterant, a med size coaster, and a camp snoopy. Possably add a theater for a show.

This would be a great addition for 2004. Also just a sugestion.......why dont they remove trabant and replace it with schwabinchin(sp) from cp?

KC: Kansas City has a sizeable metro area [Kansas and Missouri], and you could lump Lawrence and Topeka into the area, I suppose, but you've got 2, maybe 3M people a 90min radius, and maybe 4-5M in a 120min radius. Michigan's Adventure has a population that's not next to as large of a mertroplex, but in a denser overall area. The park's two-hour reachs are comparable, and factoring Chicago in at all pushes MIA *over* WoF. Valleyfair would be similar, and perhaps somewhat over both.

Jourden: The train? Sitting next to the maintanence shop, actually. BeBop? MIA is always late in construction, w/ the exception of ST, which was finished 4 hours before opening. BeBop was delayed in 2001 by a construction strike that Jourden responded to by firing all involved. The park was bought 1 month later, and became CF's problem. They finished it the next year.

Stevensville, actually. The woodie was a John Miller, though.

Here's the thing, right? Michigan's Adventure could *never* afford any of their major investments. Due you think a deer park could have afforded a Corkscrew, back when those were actually novel? Do you think a small little quasi-park could have afforded a Summers & Dinn woodie?

Do you think Holiday World could have afforded Raven given their attendance at the time?

It's already been five years since ST. I think with the addition of the Train, Dodgem's,New waterslides, Rip Cord, Go Carts, Madd Mouse, and Landscaping. It time for a major new coaster.

Have you seen the train? It's a kiddie train that goes about 150 feet long. Perfect for 5 year olds. Build more coasters people will come!

Wolf:

Independently-owned parks climb farther out on a limb than a publicly owned corporation should. Look at the punishment SF got from the market for wheeling and dealing in speculative fashion. Besides, there's no comparing a $2-3 million bet to a gamble more than triple the size.

And what gives you the silly idea that a big coaster is the answer? PKI draws crowds just fine with family attractions--kiddie coasters, rethemed flumes, flat rides--to an audience that could just as soon drive to CP. HW does just great with innovative waterslides and good ol' fashioned customer service. It's not that you just don't get it; you stick your head deep in the sand and refuse to.

Swoosh:

VF is hardly a 'destination' park if you ask me...but for a park that's barely bigger than KBF and lacks theming in the CF tradition, it's pretty good. For a city the size of Mpls/St. Paul, it's downright stupendous.

Just popping my head in...

Crazy...that path is coming in the near future. Be watching for it in a theater near you...oh wait, wrong PSA. "If you build it, they will come"...hey, it worked for Dyersville, Iowa. ;)

There is something in storage waiting...but ROI from last years 6+ mil needs to happen first. Yes attendance did remain the same from the previous, but spending did increase per visitor to the park. Heck, I just purchased an occassional blue lemonade once in awhile, so I know many of the people who visit have been diggin deep into their pockets before they leave. We need either more of those people to come, or I need to buy a hot dog to go with that lemonade. ;)

Storage where? What's in Storage?

I did hear the train was lame.... But the point was.... Ma has not negleted family buisness. It's been five years since ST. All I'm saying is that a new signature ride is due. Besides CF's culture is a thrillride culture period.

Have to agree with you there bob and I say add some more shops/food stands for people to speed their money on!(More revenue for the park!)
