Cedar Fair knows that when you take over a park you can't just slap up some rides and expect good things to happen. Other companies could learn from that example.
The last thing I'd want to see MiA do is lose its distinctive personality and flavor. I'm sorry, but I just don't care to see another faux 50's craporama a la CP/VF/DP and maybe WOF, at least with the Coasters burger joint. Not to say the faux 50's thing is inherently ugly--I daresay it even works at VF because the park lacked personality. But in a place that already has a history or a persona like DP it's an atrocity.
Unlike far too many corporate parks, MiA has a soul. It has the opportunity to maintain its homespun, handcrafted classic feel and IMHO should do so.

Of course, there was no hyper in 2002. I think most of us have figured that out. I think.
As for what I said earlier about MiA still hyper-lusting, let me put this in little tiny words again...Read and comprehend before posting. I think it explains itself quite well. Ask a friend to help you.

You are aware that the 2002 coaster was a hyper, correct? And that Cedar Fair committed to building it, correct? While whether it was included as a term of the sale contract will probably be a mystery for some time to come [the naming of Zach's Zoomer falls into this as well], it seems quite reasonable -- even likely -- that a hyper is in MIAdv's future. The question is whether that time is now.
All my point is is that the park *can* afford it. They have before in similarly scaled ventures.
Now whether that strikes you are 'corporate' or not, I really couldn't care less.
They can afford it why? Cuz you and your little calculator says so?
When compared to real-life case studies of CF parks with more than twice the attendance of MiA (make that triple in good years), the same reality crops up again and again. It will wear as heavily on MiA's future expansion from then on as Mamba does WoF...and frankly , there are less expensive ways to attract more people.
I'll take the concrete and true lessons in the real world over your wishes and silly math any day.
Have fun with your head in the sand.

It seems to me that Cedar Fair pretty much spreads out the funding they have. I have no doubt that WoF and MiA are next on the list for something big. But I'm still not convinced that MiA will be getting a hyper next year. It's a catch 22....don't want to put in an expensive coaster until the attendance and numbers are being met, but hard to draw the attendance when there isn't enough (except the waterpark) to keep people IN the park all day. Remember, the water park is a big draw...but so is Lake Michigan with sandy beaches only minutes away.
I'm all for a giant huss ride, or an S&S Tower. VERY doable and would add another "thrill" to a park that is still very much family oriented and depends on the tourist base (pretty much limiting their peak season to mid-June through mid to late August).

Guess I've been in VF country too long--where the park bristles with places to sell you stuff.
xterra: Why not slip on a swimsuit and try that really cool waterpark in the back? You know--the one with three wavepools, a nice lazy river and slides all over the place? No one's gonna laugh at you. Promise. Scout's honor. Okay, not when you're looking anyway. At them. Directly.

I live 40 minutes away from MIA. You can do the whole park in about 2 hrs. It's very lame, except for ST. It's more like a fair. I go there, pay the 23.00 bucks and ride ST about 6 or 7 times and then leave. I really hope someday CF will turn it in to a nice park.
There's nowhere to go but up.......
