Magic Mountain announces three new coasters, sort of

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

While no press releases have been issued, it appears that Six Flags Magic Mountain has announced three new coasters, which will bring thier count to a record 15.

A flier distributed to current pass holders describes a "super boomerang" called Deja Vu, a coaster simply called "X," that sounds suspiciously like Arrow's phantom 4th Dimension and a junior coaster called Goliath Jr.

I have to agree with Jeff. Not that I *have* to, I just do. This doesn't mean that CP is the any other amusement park, it just means they lose one record. But who really cares? I don't quite believe in the validity of this post though. I'll believe it when I see it. Well, maybe that is a stupid comment, but you never know.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
I think that CP will still be the king. Even though they would lose the coaster record, it's not just about the numbers(Even though it really does help CP's reputation), but the quality of the rides. And if you ask me, Cedar Point has some of the best quality rides and coasters a park has to offer. I do like to stick with CP on the MM/CP debates, but this post is what I really think. Long live Cedar Point!

PS- Good post MFCrazyRider,You got right to the point!
Just because CP loses it's record, does not mean that it won't close or anything. Personally, I don't think Goliath Jr. is REALLY a coaster. If SFMM gets these three coasters, I won't stop visiting CP. To me, CP has a good history behind it, and people won't all of a sudden forget about CP. Sure, SFMM will get more attendance, but that doesn't mean CP won't.

After all, don't they have a 300 foot coaster called Millennium Force? Thought so...

Chris
Unfortunetly, this may be the end of the "roller coast" era for cedar point. But you know what, MF was rated #1 and so was the park. Go ahead SFMM, build 5 coasters every year, but you'll never know what it's like to have park where they don't have to build a coaster every year to be good.

Why does everyone bash the quality of SFMM's coasters? (or at least imply that about them) What is NOT quality about Goliath, Riddler, Viper Batman Superman, Ninja, and to a lesser extent Revolution, and GoldRusher? (one of the best mine rides around) Quality Wood is the only lacking component at The Mountain, and CP is not any better in the wood department, and that is not a matter of just my opinon.

CP and SFMM both have quality AND quantity!

So you want a coaster in your backyard? I hope you have a big backyard.
Oh no, here we go... And it's not even Spring yet. Anyone who knows me knows I love debates, but this one is frankly, dumb. SFMM and CP are two great (IMO) parks seperated by far too many miles to mention, doing what they feel is best for their patrons, and engaging in some great coaster competition in the process. Someone, (sigh)... anyone, tell me how that is a bad thing for *any* of us? Didn't we go through this last year? It's like Jeff has rolled back the same posts from this time last year. I HAVE been to both parks, and they are both great(except in the wood department), and not worthy of bashing from either side.

I really couldn't care less. CP and MM are the two best parks in the USA. If MM is getting three new coasters, great. The more the better, but that certainly doesn't mean that CP is 'just another amusement park'. If CP got another rollercoaster, or two, or three, that doesn't make MM 'just another amusement park' The point is that CP is an excellent park, even if MM gets something new. But don't get me wrong, MM is my home park and I love it, but CP isn't going to crash and burn just because MM announced that it has three new coasters.
Jeff, I don't envy you over the next six months...

CP will not fall down to being just "another" amusement park. So MM is adding three new coasters, that doesnt mean they will automatically be the "King of Coasters". They will have the most, BUT they might not be the best. Besides, when MM gets some flat rides they can join the elite amusement parks. But for now the are among the elite Coaster Parks. Both have quality coasters. I think CP goes a little farther in the quality not quantity department. I am sure they could have added three coasters for the price of MF, but why settle for mid range coastrs when you can have the best. I would take one great coaster over three mediocre ones anyday. If CP would only build a launched coaster they would be the perfect Amusement Park. It would take a lot to overthrow the Best Amusement park if they added a Speed: The Ride type coaster.
I have to agree with simcoaster on several things first about SFGAm, and also about not arguing over which is better Magic Mountain or CP, they are both great parks.

#1: Millennium Force
#2: Raging Bull
#3: Tie B:TR/Raptor
#4: Viper (SFGAm)
#5: tie Goliath/Magnum
How did I know this news would come down to a silly argument about SFMM vs. CP.

I kinda get tired of it.

hey soggy and simcoaster

don't get me wrong, sfmm's coasters are great, but altogether i don't think the park has that special somthing CP has, and i don't think adding bazilions of coasters will fix it

p.s. i can't wait to ride them *** This post was edited by Zero-G on 12/15/2000. ***
No offense, but i am tired of hearing about how great cedar point is. Whenever someone mocks cedar point, there will be 50 postd retaliating. I know its a great park, but there are a lot of great parks. Theyve had the spotlight for long enough imo. Get over it.
So what? Who cares? CP is a cool park and I'm sure MM is too. People like CP and people like other parks just as well. I say go Magic Mountain! The more coasters at ANY park the better! Cedar Point more than likely has something great for 2002! Geez, go ride MF or something until then.

As for yet another boomerang, ugh! That will be the 4th (Invertigos are the same thing) Boomerang in California alone. They are fun rides but get very boring after a couple of rides. Boo Vekoma and Yay Arrow for doing something new. Stop the Boomerangs!

Damn, and it's only been here for a day. Anyway, all the more reason for Knott's to do something with the Boomerang and Windjammer area. A hyper awaits and you can put a ton of cash on that bet. Maybe a Raptor clone and a Intamin Hyper.
Sorry peoples, Batman sucks!

Knott's will not be out done in this fashion nor will Cedar Fair. You can also put a bagillion dollar bet down that this will be it for SFMM for a while. This is only being done because of Coaster Con. SFMM had zip for years and finally added a few in the last ten.

I remember a time when they thought they were the best and all they had to offer was Collosus, Revolution, and a moving bobsled ride. SFMM also has a crime problem, don't understand why they spend so much there, almost as much as they do on security. If your a first timer, it will definatelly be a first for you when you go through the metal detectors. Enjoy your day and don't get stabed!

For those who say I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm a SoCal native and never in my life have I seen such a dirty park. I'll give them the fact that they have some great rides, I just don't understand the hype over this place given the circumstances and the mile long lines. Went to CP last summer for the first time and spent 3 kick butt days mid summer and had more fun than I've ever had at SFMM.

Oh my freekin' head!

BACK ON THE HEADLINE SUBJECT...

If these rides are in fact confirmed, I would then have to say, the MOST important ride on that list is the Goliath Jr.
I KNOW the park has a small kids coaster several kids rides and 9 flat rides, but it never hurts to up the count of rides for begining coaster buffs.
I agree with John Peck...and as for all the CP vs. MM nonsense, we'll soon find out if the moderators will close a news item, because if this were a thread in the forums section, it would have been closed a long time ago.

Ah... Skyboss nailed the most relevant issue as far as competition goes. If anyone needs to be nervous, it's most certainly Knott's.

And Knott's WILL respond. However Skyboss, I wouldn't count SFMM out in 2002 either, not from what I'm hearing. You don't break a record, to then give it back the following year. SFMM time to hire more employees!!!

This is just wrong. I've been to both, and have no real bias toward either, but then again, I like one a lot better than the other, and can that really be considered non-biased?

First off, Cedar Point and SFMM are in two completely different regions of this fine country. Secondly, Connor, Jesus... Let's act a little more mature than that, shall we? There was a point in my life that I thought going to IOA would suck because there weren't enough coasters, and the theming was too childish. Boy, was I ever wrong.

On this ride thing, SFMM has 15. So freakin' what? Let's count the decent ones, shall we (and I'll even give the new Boomy the nod here).
Goliath
Riddler's Revenge
Deja Vu (leap of faith)
'X'
Superman: The Escape

And at Cedar Point:
Mantis
Raptor
Millennium Force
Magnum XL-200
Gemini (Yes, this is a hidden treasure)

So the final factor happens to be quality, not quantity, and don't go shoving Viper down my throat either. You just don't understand. The kiddy coaster was simply a ploy to get the record. Nix that. The Boomerang 2 was a ploy to get a record. Slow and steady wins the race. I think the problem with SFMM's idea of the park would be, of course, to plop stuff wherever.

Six Flags will not allow the huge budget to go to SFMM every year now. CP will most likely get one or two next year, pushing it over the top. SFMM needs nothing. They have 15 coasters, and really, none would make it on my top 10 list of rides.

CP fans, unite under me and don't feel threatened. SFMM's rides will be scrutenized more than any other, and they will bring their own set of problems to life. CP will answer with something big next year, and trust me, they don't like being second to a park with a bunch of second-rate, many times out of operation rides. Attractions aren't everything. When's the last time anyone said they were going to Holiday World or Islands of Adventure for their sheer number of rides?

Can I please say this last thing? I've been to both, SFMM is not a bad park, but I'm defending the better park. Not because of extreme bias, but because of the quality of my experiences. *** This post was edited by GenuineCynic on 12/15/2000. ***
