Legitimate issue with Cedar Point claim

Chuck E Cheese has the most rides. Sure there are a lot of locations, but the tokens work at all of them. :)
Raven, you're wrong. Major Magics has the most rides.

Either way, both are a collection of ungated amusement parks which charge people for rides. They are managed by single entities and you can use tokens/tickets purchased at one location at another location. Why aren't they counted in the discussion?

GD Major Magics fanboys.

There is nothing to get over and no I am not slow. Thanks for asking.

I saw elsewhere on CP's site "Cedar Point is home to an astounding 68 rides, including 16 roller coasters - more rides than any other place on the planet."

So I guess that takes care of that...kind of. Guiness still says Gadv has the most, so when are you gonna complain about them Rob. And are we really talking about two rides difference? I am embarassed I even participated in this thread. *** Edited 5/12/2005 7:55:41 PM UTC by eightdotthree***

For what it is worth...

RCDB seems to count Morey's Piers as one location (http://www.rcdb.com/pd32.htm), not simply a "collection of ungated amusement areas"

Wow, he asks one question and then we gets idiots like this countering a legitimate argument with childish ones. I had higher hopes for CP supporters. I thought they were more intelligent. Instead of just admitting that they might have been wrong, they post nonsense trying to distract from the fact that they can't win. Stop wasting our time with posts that add nothing to the discussion and go enjoy CP, I know I'd rather be there.

Tower of Terror is one of the best rides ever created by man.
That's a first. An "intelligent discussion" amongst geeks, about coaster related material.

Now that's funny.

Who says we do it to try and support CP? Maybe we're just doing it to piss you off!!!!

**Raven -- mission accomplished, I'm RTB**

Who is trying to win...and what is there to win? This is a pissing match that will go nowhere unless someone from Cedar Fair is asked - and answers the question as to how they came up with their claim.

I don't work for Cedar Point marketing and apparently no one else here does either.

For the dozen or so people in this thread that are really all worked up one way or the other...call Morey's and see if they are upset about it...and then call the Point and tell them Morey's is upset about it. And then tell the Point that you are going to tell your daddy if they don't fix it and then, in the words of Lennon, "the World will be as one."

Seriously though, I think the thread has gotten past the point of reason. Both parks could be exagurating the number of rides they have.

Heck, 70 sure is a nice number, maybe Moreys rounded it up?

I wasn't referring to the original question, as it seems no one wants to discuss that. i was referring to the fact tha GA has more rides than CP. Some people were trying to refute that fact, they're wrong and now instead of admitting it they're just posting nonsense that doesn't matter.

For those of you that say no one cares, why take the time to post here. It shows that you have some interest in what is going on. Furthermore, maybe we really don't want to hear your nonsense. We really don't care what you have to say unless it adds to the discussion.

And eight, you might as well just stop talking. Guinness doesn't just call up the park and ask, "Hey, how many rides you guys got," and then report that number. They have some standards and they follow them. So stop makin moronic posts and either leave or say something intelligible. *** Edited 5/12/2005 8:11:51 PM UTC by ToTfreak***

I make the comment Rob because what you are doing is baiting people into an argument just for entertainment purposes. If you were serious about this you would do something other than make an issue of it on a chat board.

I still don't understand how I am baiting. If I was baiting, I would have titled the thread "Cedar Point sucks because they can't count rides" or something like that. Instead, the title of the thread is "Legitimate issue with Cedar Point claim"- the operative word being legitimate because I believe this is a legitimate topic to debate. I made an issue of this on Coasterbuzz because this is a roller coaster enthusiast discussion forum- where was I supposed to take it? The local news? A senator? A discussion forum for NASCAR? As I have been saying, I figured it would make for interesting conversation... I had no idea that some people would get so bent over me asking a simple question.

I'm not the only one that caused this to escalate and I still don't see how my asking for a real answer constitutes baiting or trolling or supporting the critic boy core.

You didnt ask a question, you stated your opinion and waited for people to react.
GADV lost rides since Guinness last counted, and I am not a big fan of the 3 are 1 argument in parks or other issues. ;) And ToTfreak, I am a Chuck E Cheese fanboy, so who's the idiot now?
Because the real answer won't be found here Rob. The "bait" you cast out comes from knowing that nobody in here can answer the question.

Now, have some people said, "Cedar Point has more so there"? Maybe. But, short of Dick Kinzel or Janice Witherow coming in here, identifying themselves and answering the question it won't be answered.

Here is how little I care: I didnt' even know Cedar Point was making the claim until Rob brought it up and I had no idea who, "held the record" prior to Cedar Point claiming it. Frankly, if any of these parks lost the record because they got rid of some of those annoying kiddy rides that go, "beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep" I'd buy that General Manager a lifetime supply of beer.

Bottom line: Until someone asks Cedar Point and they go on record with an answer the debate is going nowhere other than several more pages of nonsense or until Jeff locks the thing.

Wow...I can't (actually I can) believe this pissing match is still going on.

I have to admit I was just blowing this off as stupid, but for some reason just decided to click the link in the original post.

The actual quote from the CP site says:

“Cedar Point is a 364-acre amusement park/resort that is home to the most rides (68) and roller coasters (16) on Earth.”

First off it doesn’t technically say they have the most rides on Earth. It says they have the most rides and roller coasters.

Stop and think a second about the cunning wording. That simply means that CP has the most rides and roller coasters. (a total of 84)

EDIT - Using the CP wording and the ride lists/stats from the official sites, Morey's has 77 rides and coasters and SFGAdv has 58. (excluding any error in my quick counting :) )

Actually, a count of both CP and Morey's for rides (including coasters) that are not upcharges or miniature golf are as follows:

Morey's = 66
CP = 68 (67 if you count PT as 1)

Under the listing "Pier rides" Morey's has a total of 76, but they include the afore mentioned minature golf, twice, along with a pavillion that is not a ride along with 7 other upcharge rides.

CP's list on the other hand, are only rides inside the park, not Challenge park with the upcharge rides.

So maybe this is how CP justifies saying the have the most rides on the planet. The ones included in a POP.

An intelligent response from a CP "fanboy", it can't be.....can you hear that....its a sigh of relief coming from hell, it must have finally frozen over....

Nice argument Tambo, way to put the effort in to actually look up that which the rest of us were too lazy to.

Lazy? Hey...I resemble that!
Just because I live in Sandusky and CP is my home park, in no way makes me a "fanboy".

I like going to CP, but since I am an adult, I know they are not close to the "be-all and end-all" of amusement parks. I have been lucky enough to be able to travel to many other parks and see how other parks operate.

CP makes moeny the best they know how and I don't think they have to apologize to anyone. They offer a more than reasonable product for the money with a very nice selection of rides and attractions, along with a clean park, friendly staff (for the most part), and a beautiful setting.

But I also have had great times and enjoyed myself at every, yes every, park I have ever visited. Sure, some lines may have been too long, or rides were down, but I was doing something I loved while hanging out with people I love. How could I not have a great time?

In the end, it's a hobby. That's how I treat it.
