Bottom line #1: Advertising DOES toe the line between fact and fantasy...
Bottom line #2: I love Morey's and CP...but I'd rather go to Knoebels! (Since DK doesn't make ridiculous claims about the number of Fascination machines on hand)...:)
Bottom line #3: I am WAY more objective than any of you, so NYAH! ;)
You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)
It never ceases to amaze me how much people can talk while remaining completely deaf to the conversation taking place. First of all, I would like someone to point out where in the past five pages I said that I didn't like Cedar Point. I have repeatedly said in this thread and in others that I like CP- what am I supposed to do? Name my first born after one of their coasters? Sign my name in blood to pledge my allegiance to Cedar Fair and unquestionably accept all that they do and all that they say?
Funny how Impulse-ive had enough time to go back and collect some statistical data on the life of this thread thus far and is basing his entire case (whatever that may be) on numbers, yet like almost everyone else, refuses to answer my original question: If CP does NOT have the most rides of any park in the world, why are they claiming that? Maybe if people would stop lumping people into one of two categories, accusing Morey's Piers of not being a real amusement park or making sarcastic comments for the sake of seeing their thoughts posted in a public forum, I wouldn't have had to post 20 or 30 times.
Is this a silly debate? Sure it is. If I was busy at work right now, I wouldn't even be bothering with any of this... I wouldn't have even mentioned anything in the first place. But since I'm bored, I figured that it would make for some intelligent and interesting conversation- the same way discussions about Hades super-banked turn, the history of Arrow rolling stock and the uncertain opening date of Kingda Ka manage to make for intelligent and interesting conversation. I should have known better than to mention something negative about Cedar Point on a site where 75% of the registered people live within an hour of the park and the other 25% mindlessly follow them.

Who gives two turds about it? I go to amusement parks to ride the rides and have fun.And who cares if a park has 5 more rides than another park does. It makes no differance in weather or not I visit that park.
And if it was such a big deal and the claim was false, dont you think that morey's piers would argue that claim?
This is the problem that Rob's talking about. He didnt ask why people go to amusement parks. Frankly, we don't care why you go to amusement parks. He simply asked how CP can get away with their false advertising. We don't care why you go to theme parks or whos a fanboy or whos a critic boy, just answer his question. Why can CP claim they have more rides when they officially have less rides than Great Adventure, can anyone answer this? I mean it's not like it's a subjective claim. Most advertising you see is about the best, or greatest and it is all subjective. This is a fact. CP shouldnt' be able to lie about facts like this. they can claim they're the best or greatest in their ads, but they shouldn't be able to flat out lie. *** Edited 5/12/2005 7:04:05 PM UTC by ToTfreak***
RavenTTD has chosen to use the TOS option and lanuch a belated pre-emptive strike!
Also, you're basing your entire point on what the two parks say and not on fact. So it is your opinion, stop saying it like its written in stone somewhere. *** Edited 5/12/2005 7:17:32 PM UTC by eightdotthree***

The actual quote from the CP site says:“Cedar Point is a 364-acre amusement park/resort that is home to the most rides (68) and roller coasters (16) on Earth.”
JUST to keep the argument going....hehe. How do we know whether the 68 figures INCLUDES the 16 coasters or not? ;)
ToTfreak: Thank you SO much for that- maybe people will listen to you instead of me since I've been given the title of "critic boy" while you have no label. Well, no label yet... if you keep on making sense, you might get tossed into the "core" along with me. You're absolutely right, I could give a crap about why people go to amusement parks, I just wanted to know how/why CP could claim to have the most rides when they don't. Why people take this as some kind of personal attack is totally beyond me.
wahoo skipper: Again, you point out how this is a pointless debate while taking the time to make your thoughts known... why?

Rob, didnt Gonch kind of proove your theory wrong? Does Morey's have 84 total rides? Or do coasters not count as rides anymore? Also, you're basing your entire point on what the two parks say and not on fact. So it is your opinion, stop saying it like its written in stone somewhere. *** Edited 5/12/2005 7:17:32 PM UTC by eightdotthree***
You people are funny, you just proved yourself wrong. If coasters count as rides, then wouldnt they be considered in the initial ride count of 68. They just mention the 16 coasters afterwards becasue it's a real record. 68 rides- 16 rides that are roller coasters= 52 other non coaster rides. Therefore, again, I WILL REPEAT... no one can say CP's claims aren't false because Great Adventure officially has more rides than CP. So stop tryin to create a situation where CP has more rides than GA and just answer the original question, How can CP claim something that is clearly a lie?
And it's not exactly written in stone, but it is in the Guinness book of World Records. I'd say Guinness is pretty official, so it's not like GA is just making things up, they really do officially have the most rides. *** Edited 5/12/2005 7:25:43 PM UTC by ToTfreak***
But yes, CP will surely go under because they're advertising a technicality in which 98% of the public could give a crap about. Then everyone can rejoice.

You are no better than the Six Flags bashers who do it just to get a rise out of people.
This is six pages of nothing unless you take the next step. Actually, it is six pages of talking about Cedar Point which in the big picture probably doesn't bother the park all that much.
Moreys claims 70 and in the context of the FAQ it looks like they include the coasters. CP Claims 68 rides + 16 coasters. Which is more than Moreys. Am I missing something?
So what is ride 69 going to be?

So again, Rob. What are you basing your claim on?Moreys claims 70 and in the context of the FAQ it looks like they include the coasters. CP Claims 68 rides + 16 coasters. Which is more than Moreys. Am I missing something?
Are you slow?? ROLLER COASTERS ARE RIDES. They are included in the initial count of 68 rides, they just happen to have 16 coasters as a part of those 68 rides. GA has the most rides, its the truth because its a fact, get over it and stop tryin to disprove it.
