KK BIG breakdown?!?!?

All I can say is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! SF parks can't maintain a coaster of this magnitude.

What a freak!

After the Millennium Force hit the three hundred foot mark I doubt too many of us expected the 400 foot marker to be broken just a few years later.

TTD and KK may be ahead of their time. Like any new technology we will need to be patient, for problems are likely at these early stages of new ride technology.

Once the problems are worked out I hope park chains won't be satisfied just installing the one hill wonders, though I can see SF doing that.

Once some park decides to add a roller coaster after one of these 400 foot hills, we will know what all the pain and suffering was about in regaurds to these break downs.

These giant hills are just a taste of things to come. Ride Storm Runner and you will know what I mean.

Great point! I would like to see good engineering solve these problems. Hopefully Intamin has a chance to correct these problems and not be rushed to put another product on the street. I'd hate to see them follow the same path as Arrow and be forced out of business. I would love to have seen what Arrow could have accomplished if given the opportunity to fix some of the problems and maybe listen to some of the concerns from their customers. Maybe because I'm an Engineer, but I would much rather see problems fixed instead of just abandoning a project.

Well ive been to SFMM 4 times this year to see X and Deja Vu running, SFOG to see Deja Vu running and am planning a trip to Chicago and will drop by to see the new HH. Ill bet anything that their Deja Vu will be open.

I will accept your bet. "Deja Pooh" was running this past Sunday, but last year I was at the park more than 50 times and it was only running two of the times I was there. I have had a SF sp for three years now and have only been on the ride less than a handful of times.

And DV was not running when I was at SFOG for the entire weekend in April that I was there (16th and 17th). And there was not even any one working on it that we could see.

If you go everywhere to all of these SF parks and DV is always running, don't run to the ride; run to the convenience store and buy a lottery ticket, 'cause you are one lucky dude.

Bingo. I had 5 visits to SFOG last year spread through the year and didn't see it run once nor any sign of work. My brother went to SFMM twice this year....no Deja Vu. And one was for the ocaster event. Those that have seen it run are just lucky. And I'll say it again....isn't X scheduled to be down every Wednesday?

I have no beef towards SF, but just answering the claim made last page ...

Thankfully Deja Vu at SFGAm has been running pretty well this season. Most of the time early in the season when it wasn't operating it was due to staffing.

I don't know what they've figured out on this one but it's doing much better.

"Heavily medicated for your safety!"

Its like the Bat at PKI the world wasnt ready for that kind of design until a few years later. They had to rework that. The idea is this simple, think about it, they didnt put much though behind it. The rocket coaster is still a work in progress and intamin just saw dollar signs and never really perfected it. The smaller designs seem to work better. The stratas are so prone to breakdowns. Everyone can say what an amazing ride they are but they really need to master the concept before they put up another one maybe this will show them that until intamin can make a better running one that we wont see one for a good while. I hate to say it, but can we just wait for another one for a while.

Resident Arrow Dynamics Whore

Why do I have the feeling that SF foolishly signed a contract for another and Intamin greedily accepted, BEFORE KK ever tested?

I'm pretty sure TTD is running rather well right now. Only time will tell for Kingda Ka though.

Don't be so quick to believe this story. No credible source has confirmed anything on Kingda Ka's status or what may have happened. The only thing this is right now is a RUMOR. Their website is only reporting Kingda Ka being down on Thursday anyway...well, at least that's all it is saying now.

The park isn't really going to say anything about it. They're not going to confirm anything other then it's not running just like CP did with TTD. At least as far as GADVCentral goes, anyone over there will tell you, we don't drop stuff like this lightly.

Rocket coasters are the future, lift hills will be a thing of the past on steel coasters. It is only a question of time.

Bingo..

I believe Storm Runner to be the most advanced, forward-thinking, well rounded coaster experience out there. Stengel himself revealed in an interview recently that while coasters are always going to get higher and faster, the real future of coasters will be the maneuvers they perform. Every move on Storm Runner is so unlike anything else(except the upwards twist into the tophat). I dearly hope Stengel's aspirations come to light because I really want to see more of this instead of the type in discussion.

That being said, I truly hope both TTD and KK will get all their issues resolved quickly so they can both start to run reliably.
I'm impartial to any park chain, but if you haven't guessed Storm Runner is my favorite coaster. :)

I couldnt disagree more. I think conventional chains, even cable lifts, will always be around. Rockets are good for height and speed, and that's about it. After you put the system and the hill in, you're shelling out some serious money. For longevity in thrills, I say 'conventional' coasters will always be alive and well.

I don't see how there could have been smoke along the track. The brake fins are magnetic right? No friction. So, that wouldn't be it. The only place I can think of their be the possibility for smoke to be coming from was the shed with the motor, but I doubt that was it, as it being hydraulic.

It's like back with the S:ROS incident where people claimed the the train, caught on fire. There's no way it could from a crash. (Unless it crashed into something flamable, which it did not)

So how much longer untill SF sues Intamin and puts them out of business also?

Im sure Inatamin knew when they started KK that it would not work 100%, but for some reason i have a feeling SF just didnt want to listen.

Does anyone know how TTD is running these days? Ive heard its only been down for a long peroid of time one day this year, anyone know?(SF fanboys--please dont respond with ur usual remarks)

How odd. I've had no problem riding any of the three US Deja Vus. I rode SFMM's on media day; rode SFGAms on a visit after it opened; and SFOG's was open both days I was there [May 27 and June 3].

Don't hate me, P! ;)

TTD seems to be running more reliable these days. And when it's down, they get it up right away (well, that just sounds all wrong ;)

It was down on Memorial Day due to a mechanical problem, but they worked on it all day and got it up and running by 2. They even gave the resort guests stamps at 9 a.m. for a 5pm ride (before they normally gave stamps out in the afternoon to the rest of the peeps). The rest of that weekend, it would go down due to rain, lightning, and major gusts of wind. But when they started it up again, they would launch every minute to a 1 1/2 minutes (well, until a rollback). I only saw 3 rollbacks though in 4 days there.

One day, also due to wind, when they shut the ride down, we were given 2 exit passes for any ride (well, except TTD). We used them on MF and MaxAir. The exits are much faster than the Fast Pass.

I guess when there are problems, they bribe us, and still work as qucikly as possible to get them resolved. I think there will always be problems (Intamin), but it seems that CP has gotten very good at tending to them.

The brakes are up in the pictures.

PB, I fear the worst. Let's hope SFMM's "retaking the record" in 2006 refers to number of coasters, and not speed and height of any one given.
FYI people, that's just a rumor as far as I know. I'm not sure the park has actually come out and said words to the effect, yet. ;)
