Intimidator(s) updates

Carowinds Intimidator just made it's first 2 successful laps and it HAULED through the course, to the point of almost looking painful at the end. Check out the webcam http://66.193.7.116/mjpg/video.mjpg if you can get a spot in there - it's still testing.

The first test run was posted on YouTube:

It looks like the block was completely off as the drop off the block and the entrance into the helix looked completely insane.

I guess Cedar Fair learned its lesson. Start testing the Intamin early to find where the total miscalculation was in the ride to give you time to fix it.

In seriousness, that's some nice footage there.

^...except it not an Intamin coaster. It's B&M (you're thinking of Kings Dominion's Intimidator 305).

tservo, it is a B&M. lol

That looks like it's going to be awesome! I love those pointy hills.

You probably don't want to test the first run with any trimming engaged. Doesn't mean it won't be trimmed later.

Yup. Because it definitely will be.

I would say the speed you saw today (before the MCBR) looks about right, so once it breaks in more and they trim it a bit it should be a similar net speed. Who knows how hard the MCBR will hit but it definitely looked wild today without any slow-down there.

wow that was bad on my part. Looking forward to hitting both this year. Won't even try saving face on this one.

It's ok, tservo. Some may even think of you as cooler for having made that kind of mistake. :)

I'm looking forward to both of the rides also, tservo. No need to try to save face. They both have the same name, are within a four hour drive from each other, and being built by the same chain. (begin sarcasm) It's not as if it's confusing or anything. (end sarcasm)

I, for one, am glad to hear the familiar roar of an un-insulated track :).

Btw.. For those wanting first ride attempts (and donate to some causes)

I305 has now officially posted their first rides auction. Runs similar to Carowinds.

It's not the same name. :-P

Right, Andy. One has a number after it. I hope that that clears up the massive confusion between the two. :p

Oh man, I want to ride it now before they slow it down.

I was just looking at some photos on the intimidator305.com website and noticed two new pictures added to the library. I think some people are going to be disappointed when they see the new trains on site. I've never had any experience with this design of train, but Im sure some of you have.

Why would anyone be disappointed? It's been known since the ride was announced what kind of restraints the trains will have.

CoasterDiscern's avatar

I've seen some replies on the site with members expressing their disappointment with OTSR and how to them it takes away from the full ride experience, thats all. Like I said, I haven't experienced those type of restraints myself, so I don't have an opinion on them.
