Yeah, the core question we all have is still, "What were you thinking about harvesting e-mail addresses?"
There is no good answer, we'll never hear one. Not doing it for the money (whatever that means) certainly isn't an excuse.

The Michigan bill that Jeff mentioned is not quite yet in place, but is described here for your education:
Note that I am not threatening ThrillNetwork with any legal action; however, they do need to be more careful, or someone could potentially charge them if they continue these practices after the bill is passed.
Violations of the Michigan bill, should it become law, would face misdemeanor charges, along with prison terms as long as one year and fines of up to $10,000. Those penalties could be imposed on the spammer on a per-message basis. In a civil case, plaintiffs could recover actual damages. Alternately, they could sue for the lesser of $500 per spam message or $250,000 for each day the spam is received. Recipients and e-mail service providers would also be allowed to recover costs and attorneys' fees.
Lemme blow the dust off my time-proven theorem and apply it to our particular sad bunch.
Sometimes there are nobody (web sites) who desperately wish to be somebody(web sites). In their pitiful wish to be a somebody (web site) they turn to (spammination), but the only validation they actually find is that they truly are a nobody(web site)--and the same boring feckless nobody (web site) they are in the real world.
Confronted once again with the fact that they're nobody, their next pathetic effort is to lash out at the somebodies around them. Perhaps by cutting the somebodies to size, they imagine they will cease to be a nobody(web site) . Bad move. The somebodies will only poke more fun at them and the nobodies who know better will leave them to their sad fate, too.
It applied when I coined it and it applies today.
Study well. Class will be back in session soon...

The only time I've used the work email was to contact Jeff directly to ask questions about Coaster Buzz Con, or a few questionable threads. This makes me wonder if they somehow harvested his "sent" mail addresses, since my work address is not in the database (but he did reply to my messages).

Heres a link to prove my story, when will everyone wake up and see that Jeff lies to his members to look good! CoasterBuzz doesnt get that many hits! Wake Up people!
http://pages.alexa.com/prod_serv/traffic_learn_more.html#traffic_rank
Another gem from Alexa for those without ADHD who read stuff. This is at the bottom of the page...
Generally, Traffic Rankings of 100,000+ should be regarded as not reliable because the amount of data we receive is not statistically significant. Conversely, the more traffic a site receives (the closer it gets to the number 1 position), the more reliable its Traffic Ranking becomes.
In other words, it's fairly safe to say that CBuzz is more popular than all the fart sites on theWeb, but SwillNetwork may be even less significant than Alexa says.
Next!

How exactly do I steal news? In fact, have you looked lately to see that (gasp!) most of the news is contributed by our members? Are they all thieves too? Does this have anything to do with e-mail harvesting spammers?
Still waiting to hear from somebody from SwillNetwork to tell us how they justify harvesting e-mail addresses...

Don't ever underestimate the psycho factor in my head
It's a blatent rip-off from That 70's Show, but it really applies here.
You read that Jeff, users that have the Alexa toolbar! Thats not every user on the internet!Sorry if I made you feel stupid but I had to say something. THOSE RATINGS MEAN NOTHING!
Just like TV's Neilsen ratings are based on just the people who are chosen to participate. It's a very small percentage of the people watching TV - yet billions of dollars change hands because of what those few people watch.
This is kind of how "real life" works. Perhaps you'd like to join us here.

Dorney Park Visits in 2003: 11
One small problem with the Jesus thing tho--I do believe he required repentance of your sins first, no? Which meant more than saying, "My bad--hey shut up talkin' bout me." It meant stopping all the evil you were up to first. Do we hear any Most High Exalted muckamuck from that little place over there doing that? Not really.
So in the meantime....

Am I really that shy?
What's going on here is a mere mortal who has been wronged by another mere mortal. It's not hard to figure out that we're supposed to turn the other cheek (Which is a heck of a lot less fun than just making funnies). "Let He who is without sin, throw the first stone", "Love your enemies", "Do not judge, or you too will be judged" and on and on and on...
Jesus gets to overturn tables, you don't.

We can accept that they made a mistake in sending out that spam email, if in fact Alex Westerman was being truthful.
We cannot accept the fact that he or his colleagues harvest our email from this site and possibly other coaster-related sites. That is totally unacceptable to their ISP's and unnacceptable to any CoasterBuzz member who trusted their email address to Jeff.
Furthermore, now that Thrillnetwork has a list of coaster enthusiasts' email addresses, he can sell it to high-volume spam mongers and potentially make a little money. Should he be allowed to make money on us? On information he shoudln't even have? Of course not! This is what we're mad about, and no matter how many times the Thrillnetwork apologists claim that it was an innocent mistake, we all know that the harvesting of emails was deliberate and intentional and we reserve the right to not be happy about it.
