Did you get e-mail from ThrillNetwork?

Good idea, Mike, and I have thought about that. It'd be really easy to do something like that. News.com has been doing that on their contact page for awhile now.

The new version of the forum does private messages, but I'm not ready to deploy that any time really soon because it would require a lot of data conversion, and I have two other projects that actually pay I need to finish first.

Thank you, 'Playa, for the lesson in Webanomics. :)

I hope you'll notice I suggested that at the top of the 5th page of this topic:

Simply have the addresses seperated (EX: bob @ aol.com) wouldn't be caught. Users should be able to copy, paste and delete easy enough if they really want to send a message.

And you can look at it yourself to see there is no editing. :)

Again, my point is that they did it once and plan not to do it again. This is no different from getting SPAMed and requesting to be taken off the list (except this time it working). Companies harvest e-mails, there is not much we can do about it. How would you feel if FOX NEWS harvested e-mails from all the coaster sites and SPAMed a "newsletter" about Two Face being down?

Would you be doing the same thing as you are to TN? Would you feel the same way? Or would you just drop it when they said we are sorry and it wont happen again?

Nobody said that... stick to the facts, son. It was a dishonest way to get the sites name in front of thousands of people.

Don't they call that spamming?

Well, if you think this was a big ploy to get attention, why did you create a huge topic on it? You would just be helping the cause. It getting blown way out of proportion.

The community dictates what's "huge," not me. I just wanted to know at the time if I was the only one, and if not, report it the proper ISP.

"You're right guys, it was all a HUGE plot to overthrow CoasterBuzz. Right."

Guys? Nice try... responding to person's crazy idea and ignoring the fact that what was deliberate and unallowable was the harvesting of email addresses from other sites as was acknowledged.

The fact that this Alex person (who represented TN at that time, might I add, and thus TN as a whole is responsible for his actions-- your statement is like saying Enron was not responsible for the actions of it's employees) could so easily have sent the newsletter to people not on the TN mailing list tells me that those email addresses were going to be used at some point.

Otherwise A) they'd never have been harvested and B) would have been deleted upon deciding never to use them.

I avoided answering that because you're honestly talking to the wrong person, as, like I said before, I had nothing to do with the newsletter or sending it, so I know nothing as to how he got the email addresses.

Forget for a second that CB and SN have similar content. Why did SN have all the e-mail addresses? You are covering up the real point here. Our e-mail addresses were used without permission. You may apologize to us all you want, what about the damage to Jeffs site? If you sign up for something and that person tells you they won't sell your information and then something like this happens how do you feel about that person? This goes way beyond hits and "mistakes". You are dealing with something that is moraly and ethically wrong and it was irresponsible for this to be able to happen.

On a side note SN ranks with that Coaster Preservation Club or Society or whatever they call themselves. If you have to do this to pull traffic you need some changes. Get better content.

Legend n Raven - I'm a Troll, eh? You obviously haven't been to many forums if you think I'm a troll.

Idiesman - you obviously haven't read my last few posts, so I won't bother.

i just created this account with CBuzz recently, (within the last 2 months) i got NO e-mail. so i belive they may have harvested them a while ago. weather or not it was an 'error' is questionable. maybe they collected the e-mails a long time ago and never planned on useing them and it was an error, if it wasent wouldent it seem more worthwile to use a new list?

This could be a possibilty. Nice to see someone thinking of reasonable explanations other than rounding up members to start a witch hunt.

I have read your last few post and think that as a member of an organization or an empolyee of a corporation you have to uphold company policy and procedure. So I hold you as accountable as the rest of the moderators and editors of SN. If you can't come up with the answers to our questions then you need to find them out and come back because it is obvious your feerless leader isn't going to try and resolve anything.

I just created my e-mail account recently and I still received an e-mail.

I see you can read. That's a good start. Maybe next I'll teach you how to use the underbars { _ }, and then after that, we can work on brushing those teeth!

yada, yada, yada... I had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the sending or writing of the newsletter.

I'm an editor for Thrillnetwork.

Lets get one thing straight: this is the first time that Thrillnetwork has EVER spammed,

[snip]

So, blame Alex Westerman for the mistake, not Thrillnetwork the site or anyone else in charge of it. After all, Alex DID apologize...

1) So all those people who worked for Arthur Andersen but had nothing to do with the malfeasance in regards to Enron should still have a company to work for, even if they personally did nothing wrong? AA was found AS A WHOLE to be liable for its actions both in court and the "court" of public opinion. The court of public opinion finds you all guilty of doing slimy things, such as harvesting email addresses from other NON-AFFILIATED sites.

2) If someone shoots and kills someone, I don't think they'd avoid trouble by telling the judge, "Well, I think you should overlook this transgression, because it's the first time I have murdered someone."

3) Oh wait...He apologized...nevermind....everything's forgiven! NOT!

Believe it or not, you can't read the underbars on your forum handle, Legend_n_Raven. Imagine that. Tricky underlining.

While I agree that this whole matter was not a mistake, I think Raptorgeist is a clueless middleman, certainly not a troll. Anyway, with a site as loosely collected as Thrill Network appears to be, you can't expect its employs to agree on standards of any sort. (Or expect the iVillage idiot to adhere to them). In any case, Raptorgeist doesn't seem to be a suitable target for anger. He seems genuinely confused regarding the matter.

Sorry, I suppose I was thinking that he would have remembered about the underbars after the site he works with harvested my email address from my profile. Silly me.

I would agree. It's like playing with a deer in your headlights. In the morning I'm calling Johnnie Cochran though!
Jeff,

What legal action is CB going to take against Swill Network. Could you let all us know ASAP. Also how many people have written their ISP with complaints.

------------------
CP kicks SFMM ASS!

SPAMMING isn't illegal (yet, and I DO hope soon it will be) so any legal action can't be taken.
