I am super-pissed right now.
Tonight, not only did I finally unlock Candy on DDRMAX by clearing my 200th song, I also beat my first 9-footer, Matsuri Japan, which I've been working on for a very long time. I didn't just beat it, I got an A.
Then I turned the PS2 off to watch the Simpsons. When I saw that football had pre-empted it, I turned DDR back on. But the data on my memory card was "corrupted." That's right, I lost all of the 30-something songs I had earned, as well as all my high grades.
I checked the PS2 instructions, and it says that if you flip the on/off switch "too much," data could be erased. I guess TWICE is too much.
Anyway, from now on I'm removing the memory card, then turning the system off. Has anyone else had this problem??

That option is available on all the PSX releases also. Although you will always get to the end of the song, E is still failing.
I'd have to disagree; in some ways, an E is passing...Consider two player mode where you can obtain an E (playing badly enough), and if the other player advances, you are then scored with an E. It is also noted in the records/song list section with an E, if that is the first time the song has been played, and will remain so, until replaced by a higher grade. I think if an E was failing, the game would end, which it clearly does not.
As far as the memory card issue, I have heard of it before, but it has never happened to me. Out of curosity, do you turn the on/off switch in the front or back of the ps2?..I always use the front switch and have never had any problems with any game ever corrupting data ever! :) I also used a Sony ps2 memory card, not a third party card, which some players think may cause problems as well. I also practice "safe gaming" by making sure I don't turn off the ps2 until the game is at the main screen of ddr (flame screen), I keep my ps2 hooked up to a surge protector, and never remove my memory card if the ps2 is turned on. I also have a 2nd memory card that I archive to, on the off chance I do something stupid; which has happened before (I thought I was creating a save spot for 5th mix and somehow ended up erasing my entire file) :( But since I had it archived, it was no big loss...Hope these things might help...
Happened to me once, but I think it happened while turning it off (with the soft power button on the front) while it was accessing the card. It was probably my own fault. The other save files were fine.

Sorry, pokeyron, there is no F. E is a failing grade. You can't get worse than an E.

Go to school is Michigan, we don't have F's. E is the lowest grade you can get. Same with DDR.
Man this just made me realize how long a go I graduated. Eek it's been 5 years.

If you get an E, you lose the game. Whether you lose in the middle of the song or at the end of the song depends on how you've got your options set.
The only way you can get an E and keep playing is if the other player passes, AFAIK.

Den is correct, when we run tournaments in our arcade, it's failing with a D on 4th mix or an E on MAX2. IE if the only reason you got through the song is because the person beside you did, you effectively failed the song and automatically lose it, no matter how many perfects you got. On an arcade machine with autofail on, (which most all are, you earn more money that way ;o) ) you will never see a final grade of E on 5th or above or D on 4th when you're playing by yourself.

Mmm-k, I've talked to some other people now about my memory card problem and apparently this is a frequent occurence, losing all one's memory for no reason.
So from now on, I'm not pushing reset or the power switch ever if the memory card is inserted. I'm going to remove it every time.
btw in the process of trying to get back my favorite songs, I've gotten into "My Generation"... great song.... love the gallops. I love any song with gallops.

I don't think dust is the problem, considering the system and card are only about 2 weeks out of the package, and since I never removed the memory card once until it corrupted.
Thanks though, I'll try it anyway. Even though I'm well on my way to getting all those hidden songs unlocked naturally again. :|

a D or E is not a fail. It depends on the setting of your machine. If you Autofail on, your games ends the instant your power bar run out. If you have Autorecovery on, then you can gain back lost 'power' by doing later steps correctly.
A D or E passes if autofail is on and you have power on your power bar when the song finishes. Technically and morally, its a failure but the game decides by its settings whether you have truly failed or not.

IMO it's either True trance sunrise mix or Cowgirl.

DO NOT blow on electrical contacts. My God, who thought to do that and tell everyone in the Nintendo days? You don't blow moisture on contacts. That's the stupidest thing you could possibly do. Those things are huge, and if they don't complete the circtuit with the console, it's because they aren't there.

Den, if the system and memory card are that new, it maybe that you just purchased a bad memory card. Ive had my PS2 and memory card for awhile now, and only once did i have a problem and that was because i turned off the system before i saw the message that it was saved. otherwise no probs. you've got a 90 day warranty on both the memory card and system, so if it happens again go swap out the memory card for a new one.
