DDR bug has hit hard

Jeff's avatar

I think it might very well be the last machine, but if it is, Konami isn't paying attention to the US market. I can think of several dozen people among immediate family and friends who had no idea what DDR was six months ago. All now have the home versions and have at least tried the arcade.

Imagine what might happen with a little marketing...

Well, the problem with that is, Konami no longer has operations in the US. They closed them down earlier this year. So, it would take some pull from the Japanese offices to allot a budget for US marketing. And that would be a slim to none possiblity. It doesn't rule out another US Mix to be released for home consoles, but it does put a big damper on the ability to promote it. Then again, the sales figures I've heard for DDRMAX in the US were/are pretty strong, so anything is possible.

PS for Ohio players again.... rumor mill has it that y'all in C-bus are getting an Extreme at the Polaris Magic Mountain, complete with a new dancepad. Little birdies told me.

That's not entirely true. Konami still operates and office in Hawaii.

Re: a DDR Extreme coming to Magic Mountain -

I really, really hope it doesn't go there. For one, the 4th mix plus they have now costs $1 per play. Secondly, that place is always swarming with little kids.

I am crossing my fingers that the Columbus Square Bowling Palace gets it. That is by far the best place in C-bus to play, considering the 24/7 hours, 50-cent cost, and good crowd.

EDIT: Hey Chris, are you "Humanoid Typhoon" on ddrfreak.com??

yeah, the Columbus Square Bowling Palace is fun, their machine is in ok condition, the left arrow on the right side is cracked though.

It wasn't last time I was there 2 weeks ago. That sucks, because the right pad on the left side is not very sensitive. Stupid little kids and their stupid stomping. Last time I was there, I saw this 10-year-old stomping as hard as he could, and he played Let's Groove basic three times in a row. Arg.

Awww Jeff, can't I gratuitously quote your posts even though it was directly above mine?

As far as DDRFreak/OhioDDR is concerned, 'IcePagoda' is my handle (don't ask, it'd take too long to explain). The gentleman who is 'Humanoid Typhoon' is named Cauvin.

Just a minor thing, nonstop mode is not a new mode, it's actually been around since at least 3rd mix. I'm glad to see they brought it back.

I'm 'Ookami' on the boards over there, by the way.

I'm "Den" on those boards too, though I haven't posted much (less than 100 posts I think).

Has anyone had much success on DDRMAX's Oni modes? I have tried the easiest one ("Lesson Oni") once, and got about 40% through it.

40%!? I've only been able to do 20% on Lesson Oni!

Yep. btw, if you really want to become a natural at DDR, go back in time to your freshman year of high school and join the marching band. I really believe that my four years of being a band geek have helped in not only my DDR coordination but also the reading of the arrows.

Hey Natalie, since you're apparently the most skilled player on this board, were you in marching band??

Well, the bug hit me....

Come to think of it, it's never hit me.

This is the most insane thread I've ever seen. Is there a record for longest thread on a website?

No marching band, never played an instrument and never could sing well either. Pretty tone deaf really. I took dance lessons but that has nothing to do wtih DDR.

I think the thing is that I've been playing longer than most of the people here.

I see. Oh I went back and checked to see how far I got on Lesson Oni on my first try, and it was actually 54.1%. But it must have been a fluke, because when I tried again last night, I failed the first song.

EDIT: Now it's almost 8 o'clock. I earned Max 300 this afternoon after having the game for just 4 days, so, referring to the above conversation - I don't think 500 songs cleared is unreasonable to earn Drop the Bomb.

btw, I passed Max 300 light on my first try, failed standard on my first try and got an A on it on my second try. Failed heavy in less than 30 seconds. :)
