DDR bug has hit hard

Are any of the PSX imports worth mentioning?

I've only heard good things about the 5th mix import. We actually ended up frying my friends PS2 trying to install a mod chip so we could get it. Seems pointless to try again with max out though.

Well, some of the PSX imports include 3rd and 4th mix and Disney's Rave (which I've currently got my eye in).

The Japaneese versions have about twice the number of songs on them, so even if you have all the songs already you've got them all on one disc, which in my opinion is worth some expense.

[edit: Woah, hello Joey, good to see you. We posted at the same time. I hate when that happens.]

Twice the songs? Looking at the song lists on DDR Freak, it sure doesn't look like it to me.

Okay, maybe not twice the songs, but a few more than the original PSX version.

Jeff should webcast it so Tommy can give us a (very sad) frame-by-frame analysis.

Yeah, I guess I deserved that one. Thank God for jobs and holidays now!

It's okay dude don't let that mean old CoastaPlaya get you down. Although I do want to beat you for putting pictures of me on any sort of site at all. It's all good man, for reals!

^___^

I imagine even I could beat that filthy stink-creature "Robodud" at this Dance Dance whatever game. Humans are naturally inferior...

Why, why, why did I come back to this thread? So I stumbled across the posts about Flash Flash Revolution and then went right to the site and spent an hour playing. My hand is cold and numb...is that a problem? This, on the same night I bought a PS2 so I could DDR in the privacy of my home.

Jeff, almost anyone that has imports will tell you that starting after 2nd mix, they are well worth adding to your ddr collection. My perspective on importing ddr, is for me to enjoy playing a wide variety of songs, most of which are not available in the u.s.; I do not import ddr for the purpose of bragging.

As far as "different" songs, what kind of "different" are you looking for? Maybe you should re-examine the song list at ddr freak; the repeats are few and far between in japan releases compared to us releases. Anyone who owns the original u.s. ddr, Disney Mix and Konamix can tell you that there were quite a few songs needlessly repeated in Max. Again, you will not see KOJ throwing in 2nd and 3rd mix songs on Jap Max 6th Mix.

As far as importing costs go, that can be a mild misconception. An imported game shark, which allows you to play imported games, runs around $10. Games apiece cost around $40-50, depending on the ddr mix. The only other thing you need is a us playstation, which most video game orientated people own or have access to. PS 2 imports are little more complicated, but otherwise, it's just that easy...

As far as games I recommend, again anything after 2nd mix is good, although I especially like 4th and 5th mix; Jap Max is fun too, including songs that us max got passed over with, like www. blonde girl, Ghosts, Witch Doctor and Bye Bye Baby Balloon.

I too had my doubts when I first started importing, but I am very happy with my decision and will continue to import as long as Konami continues to release ddr games.

Are all of the song on the imports in Japanese? I would assume that they are, but not all of the US releases have just English songs.

Sure, maybe there's some variety, but it's not enough variety for me to justify it. My DDR habit, including the games, pads and the PS2 have cost me a total of $400 so far. I've not beat every song yet and have yet to even bother with maniac/heavy, or even doubles. There's a long way to go before I feel I need something else.

But that's just my take on it.

I've been playing Konamix only (aside from the arcade) for almost 6 months now and I'm not even close to bored with it. I've even beaten all of the 8-foot and below maniac songs, and I still play almost every day. It's just flat-out fun and I don't see myself ever getting bored with it.

Now, if there was an easily obtainable version that contained Maxx Unlimited, Tsugaru, Burning Heat, Nori Nori Nori, Let's Groove, HVAM, Breakdown, Waka Laka and Baby Love Me, I might buy that one... :) I'm almost 100% certain now I'm getting a PS2 and MAX for Xmas, so we'll see how much I play Konamix after that...

I never play Konamix anymore, partly because I like the songs on Max better, and partly because Max grades a little easier. Still haven't nailed down a AAA, because I don't have the patience to try and perfect my way through a lame-ass one-step song. ;)

I don't have a single AA on Konamix. The closest I've gotten is something like all perfects and 10 greats.

I agree that the Konamix grading system is B.S. You're telling me that I don't deserve an A when I get 280 perfects, 14 greats and 1 good on Drop Out trick?!?

Well, I have a werid story.

While driving home, my Mom had to drop something off at her friends house. On the way back, just looked at the houses and in the garage of someone was a Max2 DDR machine. I almost craped my pants. Tomarrow I'm going to go to that persons house and ask if I can play. So werid.

Jeff, I see your point of not purchasing imports as a PS2 owner. You've got MAX and you enjoy it. Unfortunately I don't have a PS2 and I'm not a huge MAX fan. It looks awesome, but I'm not too hot about the combination of songs.

I'm sure that if I played it more though it would grow on me and I wouldn't be longing as much for an import 5th mix or an import Disney's Rave (well, that one I might want either way...). Also, setting up my PS1 DDR setup wasn't as much as your PS2 setup, which is a very good reason for not wanting to spend the hard earned Benjamins.

On a slightly related note, I would like to take this moment to say that I am currently the sole supporter of Rob in the Great DDR Challenge, apparently. The odds are against him, but I think he can prove himself a worthy competetor.

We're still waiting on the two parties (and their personalities) to decide on a location and a date, but it sounds likely to be at Southpark Mall in Strongsville, OH or Parmatown Mall in Parma, OH. I'm sure either Natalie or Rob will be announcing soon enough!
