CP's coaster to be announced this week

Jeff, I love your posts! When WT was announced, you said it was like two big middle fingers towards Six Flags Geauga Lake, and now this. It's too much! ;)

-Mikey

You got it. I also think 4 coasters in one year is not going to "spill over" when you don't add any major rides for 2 years in a row.

I am looking forward to the Press Conference Thursday. Hopefully this will show Six Flags that Cedar Fair will not bow before her.

I thought CF's balance sheet did a good enough job o' that. Oh, well. Whatever floats your boat...

No...b/c S:TE is still gonna be running no matter what CP makes...

Sure it will run, but without it's height record, which is about the only thing the ride has left. Let's face it, *this* Superman is dead.

This one is aimed squarely at Six Flags Geauga Lake. It sends the message that buying a whale and a few coasters is not going to make you a player.

Please tell me you are joking. CP really is building a 400ft plus coaster just to show the boys about an hour east that they arent players? Last time I checked, CP was already beating SFWoA in the attendance ranking.

Uhhh...because it's big news? Really, really big news? Biggest news in years news? Strata-spheric news? Take that, once and for all, me-winner-you-loser news? SF fanboys-who-act-like-they-built-their-local-parks-themselves-can't-handle-it news?

Take your pick, I can't decide...

For some reason that strikes as very funny when taken just a tad out of context. I wonder if it's too late to return this Shamu plushie toy and these K'nex sets I bought?

No, they're showing 'em what it takes to be a player! (and putting them in their place for the time being)

I wonder what would have happened if they just built BKF in 2000, then built one of the other 2 biggies last year and another this year. You know, 4 big coasters in four years rather than 3 in 2000, 1 in 01, and then 2 rideless years. Then the efforts of building the other 2 biggies that first year could have been put towards making it a better place....you know what I mean.

It still doesnt make sense to me Peobody.

Spending millions of dollars on something just to prove a point?

As far as spreading out the attractions for SFWoA? My thinking is they wanted to bring the park up to corporate standards as far as amount of attractions go.

I dont know. Personally I think both of these parks can co-exist together just fine. I would gladly take another big park in northern Illinois to compete with SFGAm. You can bet I would be visiting both parks and loving it.

Well, they're not building it to prove a point, and I'm not sure that's exactly what Jeff meant. They're building it for their own growth and purposes , but at the same time it is (perhaps unintentionally) "speaking" to SF.

Now that does make a little more sense. :)

I'm with you Chitown, I'd gladly take either park in my backyard.

I mean, I could turn the whole thing around and say that if it's really true that CP wants to prove a point to SFWOA, than Cedar Point fans should be kissing the ground down the road at SF. Cause without them, 400ft might be a pipe dream.

I honestly feel Cedar Fair is just rewarding the park and the fans for a couple great years. All the rest is folks searching for drama the way reporters seach for the "story".

http://twistedrails.com/kbf/apr14-15.shtml Whoever said that Xcelerator's drop is only 130' is WRONG. Try maybe 198'.

Also, I wonder if the same thing that happened to Xcelerator will happen to Dragster. Xcelerator was announced by the local paper the weekend before the announcement, all the stats, the 50s wording, everything. It was a real suprise, we heard all these rumors about the name the night before (Suddenly from Grease to a name that starts with X), and pictures of the ride in the employee dining areas. Also, the coaster will VERY likely be 117MPH, this is what Xcelerator has told the xcelerator ride ops and also the speed Xcelerator was tested at.

How can anyone call #16 a "secret" ride? A "secret" ride was Tomb Raider—well, until Screamscape leaked the plans. It would be like calling a skyscraper in Washington, DC a secret (they aren't allowed).

Huss's Land of the Giants—coming somewhere, sometime soon.
It is VERY much a secret to most of the public.

Even though I plan on riding this new behemouth at CP in the near future, I, for one, would still like to experience going 100+ mph forwards and backwards. When I see S:TE, I may see little more than a flat ride: But it still looks like one hell of a flat ride!
Yeah, it may look like one hell of a flat ride, but have you ridden that POS. It seems like it only goes 60 MPH, and you have no airtime, thrill, or even excitement.
Silly CoastaPlaya. The biggest news in years was for Snoopy on Ice and yet everyone just pushed it aside for a couple middle fingers with arthritis?! CP should be sued for all the obscene images their park creates (tradition continues with S:TR of course).

Anyway, shame on Six Flags for retracking Rolling Thunder and Raging Wolf Bobs! They're not even worth fixing and the parks themselves should be closed down immediately for trying something that may please the visitors.

On a serious note, CP plans to send #16 to MiA if they find it doesn't work properly and the Michigan park won't receive a new ride for another 10 years.

-Danny, who doesn't think SFWOA had a bad year for attendance in 2001 at all (2.75 million compared to CP's 3.1 million)
