LOL! Anyway, now on to my points...
Being able to claim 'most coasters' is surely something that will reap financial benefit. Therefore, there is indirect competition between MM and CP for the coaster count, but OBVIOUSLY no competition for actual guests.
STE is quite good imo. The launch is abit lame compared to other lauched coasters (MR is more intense) but it's still great to be speeding along that runway, and the best bit for me is the sustained floatage.
SFWoA deserves a lot more credit than it seems to get imo. The reality is, SF have brought some great rides to the Ohio line up, and stiffened up the competition, both of which is beneficial to us enthusiasts. I would seem, however, that too many people get caught up in defending CP and dissing SFWoA because, for the first time, a nearby park has dared to challenge their favourite park. What I'm saying is, SF, CF, whatever, it's all good.
Well, it depends on what areas you are determining that Six Flags Geauga challenges Cedar Point. There is no challenge as of yet in the areas of customer service, cleanliness, efficiency, live entertainment just to name a few areas.
Where I would agree that there is a challenge developing is in the area of perceived value. For your money at Six Flags you now get a pretty good lineup of rides, a water park and a sea life park.
What I think is under dispute is whether or not the attractions at Six Flags make up for the varied level of disappointments that go along with them. In my opinion, they do not now. If Six Flags corrects some of their deficiencies then I think you will see more fierce competition.
Knowing some of the things that I know, I don't see any improvements coming in the short term.
I have to admit that Jeff's point is perfectly valid in that SF *was* hoping to make a pretty serious dent in CP's attendance figures when they bought Sea World, er, Geauga Lake, er, whatever they bought. CP is just making SURE that SFI *gets it*, that the northern Ohio market is....TAKEN.
The coaster also *does* take a shot at S:TE, but that is really just an added bonus...putting the nearby "competitor" away, that's what CP is working on...and succeeding if attendance figures are the measuring stick......and they ARE!
Chitown: What Peabody said. I never said it was just to spite the competition. That's just a nice side benefit. While on the subject though, the number that AB posted regarding SFWoA's attendance was too high. AB said 2.1 million, it was actually closer 1.8 million. Believe me or not, I don't care, but if you've been here awhile you know I don't make things up.
Anyway, when Thursday rolls around, I'm sure we'll all stop complaining about the length and start complaining about the name.

BINGO! I thought it was "odd" that Jeff didn't debunk this Thursday thing, and there we have our confirmation.
I know no matter what people will complain about the name. People did with MF. This makes me wonder if it will also be "Xcellerator". I wouldn't care. It could be worse....maybe like CPNUT the ride, with pancake themed trains! ;)

Peabody,
I have to agree can you just imagine the CP fanboys panties getting all knotted up at the thought of a ride name that is identical to another ride in the chain? OH THE HORRORS!!! ;) ;) ;)

Anyone see the IHOP commercial touting the new promotion of "Neverending Pancakes"?

I am a huge CP fan, but I still shake my head in the direction of the brass there. What concerns me is the lack of attention they have placed in the Disaster Transport. Yes, this ride was suppose to be CP's Space Mountain, turned into a mountain of mismanagement and fiscal lapses. The 'next' big ride after Magnum. Could it be possible that this ride could be redone? Yes the track layout would have to stay the same, but for the love of the point, do something to this eyesore and stop using it as a pole barn to store your Halloween props. Sorry I know this is off topic, but I had to say it. And hopefully this ride will have a nice height round number of 400.

DT wasn't supposed to be CP's Space Mountain, it was supposed to be a bobsled run.

I thought CF's balance sheet did a good enough job o' that. Oh, well. Whatever floats your boat...
Oh it does.
Will we have a new abbreviation around here come Thursday? M:TR? S:TR? TTD? It's amazing how fast ride names get abbreviated! :)

I still believe the parks are not in competition between each other, the record helps them very little. The only reason they are building rides that break records is not because to compete with SFMM nor its their reputation. They do it because thats what the public likes. A new ride that goes faster and higher, they think I gotta ride this thing, if you were to build a wooden coaster with nothin super special, it would not gain as many people as would the other. Competition with SFWoA is a joke and has always been, there has never been competition, people go to the respected parks because it offers what the guest wants, SFWoA will take the ones that want both a thrilling experience and an animal experience, CP, which most people want, will be just an out of control thrill experience. If CP were to add a marine section then I would say then they are in competition because both parks have the same features.
Anyways, the Plain Dealer posted nearly 400 feet, because thats what they believe the coaster's height will be, probably from an actual observation and documents to base that number from, not what they just want to hear or want it to be, like most of us have, and we are basing our numbers off of pictures, which in all sorts of ways can barely tell you anything in height.
I can't wait for the annoucement to happen, should be some interesting conversations, either the over 400 people bragging to the people who thought it was under 400 or complaining that its under 400 by a few feet. I dont care how tall or fast it goes it should be fun.

On a serious note, CP plans to send #16 to MiA if they find it doesn't work properly and the Michigan park won't receive a new ride for another 10 years. Please tell me you are kidding. By the way, I loved how you called WT two middle fingers with arthritis. Classic....
