Compare construction at CP and Xcelerator

But did those people say "it's just like the one from the other park" after they rode it?

Good point! I never thought to listen to their reactions after the ride! Even if the General Public doesn't go to parks to compare the rides, they can still recognize that a coaster is similar to another one. They can also recognize that a coaster may be too short.

Pure height doesn't make a ride good.

Really, only coaster enthusiasts care about height, speed, length, etc. ns on the new coaster.

For a lot of people pure height does make a ride. Just listen to what most people say after riding MF for the first time. Its not 'I loved the bunny hop' or 'the overbanked turns where great'. They say 'Wow, what a first drop'. Combine a huge first drop with a really fast launch and most people are not going to care how short the ride is.

I love going on a tall ride. Seeing the structure towering above you really gets the adrenaline flowing. Rides are so much more fun when you're scared.

steelraptor....important to note that the poll results are based on a SMALL smaple....also, if everyone who voted had *RIDDEN* X, I'm willing to *suggest* that the results would be far, far different...
Anyone else notice that the piece of red to white transition track has been mounted on the tower today?
And there is also a red piece attached above that white one.. I made a remark about the track having alternating colors a month ago, I didnt think they would be crazy enough to do it!!!!

I consider my family members of the general public, and I know that, to the ones who aren't afraid of heights, the height of a ride means a lot to them. I also know that they like longer rides a lot better than shorter rides. Give the GP some credit, here. They're really not all that different from us. Most of them like longer, taller, faster as much as we do. They just don't go out of their way to ride it. Therefore, a huge, tall, coaster would impress the GP as much as it would impress us. And a short ride wil leave them as disapointed as we would be. It's no mistake that the general favorites among the people on this site happen to line up with the favorites of surveys that are supposed to show what the GP likes. So, I think that the GP will have just as much reason to both love and hate CP's new ride as we will.

Track is now attached to both sides of the tower according to the webcam....

I think CP is playing tricks on Everybody, Why would they put 1 piece of track by itself 200ft up in the structure. From experience with years of building Lego and K'nex structures, it will seemingly make it harder to put track below that piece. They must be hinting something to the GP.

In regards to the comments about the ride's total length, it may be cheaper to build the ride early rather than waiting for the cold, snowy winter.

Yea your right. Lets go over to a bigger scale. Check out the Golden ticket awards. Millennium Force #1. I don't agree totally with the top 25, but I have been on all of them and I would have to say MF takes that cake. So my point that I'm trying to make is that the results are not far different. Sorry for getting off topic. I don't think this ride will have any dissapointment, if it brakes some world record. But I do hope this ride will be longer than Xcelerator.

Millennium Force ranked #1

Cedar Point rankd #1

There is no way that that tower is 200 feet tall. I was looking down on it last night while riding up on the magnum. I'd guess it's around 160 or 170right now. But it doesn't look to be stopping any time soon either.
Chris, yeh you might have said that but I made that comment way before you or anyone else and its not really needed to be commented on since it was really obvious.

holy sh*t! has anyone looked at the webcam this morning? maybe i've never seen the cranes both standing up....

those things are HUGE.

I think that they put the extensions on the second one this weekend.

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.

It's good to see the tower continue in a upward fashion. Does anyone know why they're digging up the parking lot?

Maybe some element of the ride will extend out into the parking lot. That would be so cool to pull up and park and have a coaster train fly over your car at 100 mph. :) I doubt it though. :( Get you all pumped up even before you get your room or enter the park.

It is probably to run utilities to the new ride.

Does anyone know why they would keep putting supports/track up and then taking them back down? This morning I saw another support going up the down side of the tower and now it's gone. Do you think that they have a lot of mismarked parts?

If you live in the Cleveland area, check out FOX 8 news tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. They're running a piece on the construction at CP. They spent a few hours there last week, and got some (but not all) questions answered. They also got some great, close-up video of the tower. They're planning to do regular updates, as the construction progresses all winter...
