Compare construction at CP and Xcelerator

I just thought of something. Maybe this has been mentioned before and I missed it, but the three sided tower going up at Cedar Point and the support towers for the top hat of Xcelerator look nothing alike. The towers on Xcelerator look much like those used for each spike of WT.
Maybe CP's new coaster will not have a top hat element. Maybe it will be something totally new. Any thoughts?

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.

Its a top hat believe me. The evidence is all there, when looking at the tower close up you can easily see where the track will go. Just at twice the scale of Xcelerator the support structure is like that of MF's overbanks instead of like that of Xcelerator.

1989, 9 years old bawling my eyes out because I didn't want to ride Magnum. I did anyway and look at me now. Why did ya make me do it Dave? ;)

Maybe they just started on a support for another part of the ride. Maybe it's for a large overbank or large hill. The top-hat (if the ride has one) will probably be set up later.
I have not been there since construction has begun so correct me if I'm wrong but I was thinking maybe the track may go up in between the three towers. Just a guess, I'll hopefully get to see for myself in a week or two.

What would we all do if roller coasters became non-existent???

From looking at the tower first hand, I think that it will hold more than one section of track, possibly the tophat looking element on the front and an overbanked turn on the back.

Remember, the ride is gonna be tall. It must have strong supports to counteract those Lake Erie winds. From talking to my contacts at the park, all I can say is VROOOM... VROOOM....VROOOM ;)

How can you say "its a top hat, believe me". Have you seen photos of it?(even though there arn't any), do you work at CP or with Intamin? have you seen the plans ot talked to somone who has? What, are you reling on a hunch? Do you have a feeling? or somthing? you cant do that!

ooooo.....another troll rears his head.

MagnumForce isn't the only one who believes there will be a tophat. There are a lot of CP regulars (such as MagnumForce) who may not have specifics, but enough information to make this a very valid possibility. Remember, this coaster is going to be twice as high as Xcelerator, so the major support for the element will be much larger.

Check out thw construction webcam on CP's site. The tower currently being built is huge, and they are still adding to it.

Look at the support structure itself, and forget pictures I have saw it up close and personal a couple of times.

I am 100 percent sure that the top hat will go up that tower and down it. On the 2 outside legs of the tower are places for track to be attached. Footers lead up to the tower end and then go away from it in nice parrallel lines. Look at the tower now on the webcam, two identical sets of outward facing braces. Wow that couldn't be pull ups and pull outs could they? Of course they are.

It's not a hunch, it's not a feeling. It is what is gotten from putting two and two together and examining the evidence.

To me it is much more then a possibility, it is a certainty. the top hat is definitely going on that tower.

Believe Me ;)

And I don't need to be screamed at by some troll thank you very much.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

Hey, I'm with ya, CP. Those supports look nothing like Xcelerator (the coaster that is making this one possible).

If there is evidence of anything more I'd like to see it...just post here.

Who said it was going to be twice as tall as XLR8R. Did Cedar Point make any announcement yet? No, they haven't.

Kraxel, the tower is already a good 200 feet tall and is showing no signs of getting any narrower at the top. Xcelerator is 205 feet, I would say what was there now is either at that mark or over it.

It may not be twice as tall (I belive with everything that has been put out there and from what I have deduced myself it will be) but it will be considerably taller.

That tower isn't anywhere close to 200' yet buddy.

Sorry, man. You're wrong. A member of my family was at CP yesterday. (Yes, the park is closed. They weren't there to ride.) They had to pass the construction area to get where they were going (not related to the new coaster) and witnessed the latest addition to the tower as it was being erected. It's right up there around 200. They kept on saying to me exactly what MagnumForce said, about it being taller than Xcellerator's tophat and not showing signs of stopping yet.

Hey kRaXLeRidAh, it is very close to 200 ft. nobody that I know has exact measurements but it is very close. My guess is around 180.

I'm guessing that there will be another tower adjacent to the one that is there now for the other part of the tophat; I do not believe that the whole top-hat element menuever will be supported by that one tower alone.

Anyone look at the tophat on the Chiller at SFGadv?? That has a large tower attached to the side of the tophat. Could be?? http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery424.htm?Picture=1

MLEM4S rules

Looking at it first hand last weekend, it was well over 120 feet and they have added at least one more section to it. From looking at the webcam today I would say its currently between 180-200ft. I agree, it looks like the track will be attached to the front two supports and it seems like it will go up and to the left as rumored... not a 180 degree turning one, but a 90 degree turning element.. kinda like an L shape. I guess time will tell :)

You are right kRaXLeRiDah, they have not yet made an announcement with the actual height. They've only commented about their "monster".

But at least two people on these boards who I know personally, both of whom have good relations with Cedar Fair park higher ups, have confirmed the coaster is over 400'. You believe what you want to.

One think you should remember is that Xcelerator's vertical construction didn't happen till march. They completed it near the end of april, less that two months from start to finish.

Cedar Point has to have this coaster operating by may, or in 7 months. I assume they will need to have up to 2 months for tweaking, and a bit longer to get the coaster from completed construction to operation. This leaves them with about 5 mothst to build the coaster from now. Since the supports are simpler than Millennium Force's, everything will go quicker. Now you can factor in the weather, and there headway on the tower, and your almost guaranteed a fully operational coaster opening day.

For the height, just the size of the pullout is a sign, not to mention that there is almost three times as much permanent brake track than Xcelerator.

It's going to be very tall, very fast, and very hard to beat.
