Cedar Point, The Best?

Hmmmm, so *1* person is alot?..Huh, JulieSFO/HurricaneGeauga.

Every park deserves criticism, including the so-called almighty Cedar Point. However, there is a point in time where the lying and constant exaggeration on other coasters just to make your coaster look good, has got to stop!!

Dayuum, Your HOT!

My main point was that I actually know someone who it has happened to and that I am not making it up. And no, the person who it has happened to is not making it up either. He enjoyed the ride and I am sure I would too however people have still gotten bloody ears from it.

Headbanging? Wicked Twister launch isn't good? Superman: Ultimate Escape better? I had an awsome time on it! It is Intamin smooth, you would have to be weak to get a bloody ear, just be prepared for that rear spike.

Maybe it was having a bad(s) day too when it rode rough. I have had major headbanging on B&Ms one day but the next they ran smooth as a whistle!

Ok, your *original* post said that you HEARD from ALOT of people that they received bloody ears and needed first aid. And you werent sure whether or not if it is true. Now, I see you *edited* your post to say that you know *someone*, not ALOT in your original post. And this info is now factual and not hear-say, like what you posted in your *original* post. Ok, which story is correct???

-----------------
Dayuum, Your HOT!

No, No, No. My original post says that I have heard that a lot of people have ended up at the 1st aid station with bloody ears after riding, not that I personally know all of them. I suppose we'd have to go to 1st aid and ask to know the complete truth. And about going to 1st aid, I'm not saying they went there due to pain or injry, they probably just wanted to get a band aid. Once again, I am not cutting down the ride or anything like that just saying that I do know some people who have gotten bloody ears from it.

I'm wondering why all you guys keep saying CP was nice enough to have Raptor open early. It wasn't a thing they did out of grace, the people staying on site pay extra money for the privledge. We were ripped off as far as I'm concerned as only 1 ride was open out of the 5 we were told would be, by phone.

And I'm not just finding the negative. I travel up from GA expecting to have the best experience at an Amusement Park possible. My friend from Oregon visiting here has the same hopes. We get there and all these things continue to go wrong. I don't look for the problems, they stand out, we'd been planning the thing for over a year. When we go to the "Best Amusement Park in the World" we don't expect the brand new rides to be closed.

You guys keep acting like there are 60 world class rides to do. Ocean Motion, Schwabinchen, Calypso, Matterhorn, Antique cars, Cadillac Cars, Midway Carousel, Wood Stock Express, Scrambler, Jr. Gemini, Kiddy Kingdom rides, and Camp Snoopy rides are hardly on my list of things to do. And if you aren't a die hard enthusiast, like my friend, Corcksrew, Wildcat, Iron Dragon, and Disaster Transport are good for one ride tops.

I'm not saying I am against or for CP, same goes for Six Flags or any other Park, but it is sad that so many people make those judgements. Each Park has many Great things. Why can't people learn to look at the postives more?!

That's funny that you ask why people can't learn to look at the positives after you defended the originator of this post for stating his negative opinions of CP.

Maybe the problem is that you set your expectations too high. Expecting only the best can only lead to disappointment.

Surely you understand that rides aren't always going to be operating and that maintenance needs to be performed.

Although I can certainly sympathize with your complaint at the employee that lied to you.

I never said "way to go for posting negatives about the park" I just said it is good that he posted his opinions. Sometimes people like to vent to feel better. I was mainly defending his "freedom of speech" when people got mad for what he was saying. To an extent I understand his disappointments but at the same time if I were him I would try to find the positives. It's like Peabody said "Life doesn't always work the way we want it to. Just make the best out of what you get."

Have you ever seen the archived SFO forums? If one bad thing was said about CP there were many posts saying SFx sucked and how CP is #1. The #1 unspkoen rule here is to never badmouth CP.

I don't care about that. A "rule" like that is something that would be enforced in a communist country where you can't bad-talk your president. This is America, freedom of speech.

Back to the topic, IOArules, I have a couple questions:

1. Did you get to go to a "first class" amusement park?

2. Did you ride world class rides?

3. Did you possibly expect too much?

4. Does everybody get a chance to do what you did?

STOP COMPLAINING!

But jeeze!!! Cedar Points food prices are by far the worst out of every park I've been to. $3.00 for a bottle of water!....On Wednesday the only flat ride worth riding besides Power Tower, Chaos, was closed. Again, there were no mechanics working on it, just like Wicked Twister....."This time I think ... I think it's ... it's going to work!" - Dr.Bruce Banner

I can't help but chuckle as I read this TR....I mean, besides wondering why it's in General Buzz instead of the plainly labeled 'Trip Report' forum.

I'm chuckling because I'm sipping ice water from a cup that cost me TEN DOLLARS at IOA. Worse yet, they didn't have the courage to plainly state the price like any other item on their menu...they just plunked them up on the counter and hope you got suckered in to paying an arm and a leg for them.

So two rides were down out of 68 and the whole trip is ruined. Don't get me wrong--I feel you on WT being down. In fact, I was counting on having it available for the CPlaya 100 trip and it wasn't there. But sometimes you have to BE the fun instead of waiting for it to happen to you. I'll link you to the CPlaya 100 Park #5 TR from here when I write it up. You'll see what I mean.

I also don't see how you can criticize FreeWay (or whatever they call it) when Universal Express is the worst joke on the planet. I spent a week at USF/IOA during spring break and it took 15 minutes just to get to a machine and book an appointment 3 hours into the future on a single ride, leaving you to stand in line anyway for anything else while you waited for your reservation. Not to mention that when you offer an 'express' service to everyone on every ride, it really means no one actually gets 'express' anything. My wife grew to hate IOA in a single day as much as she grew to dislike CP over 5 years' time. I doubt if I'll ever get her to go back, despite the fact she's already paid for an Annual Pass.

The way people talk about CP around here, anyone who has not been there will be dissapointed when they go.

shhhh... someone close this thread. IOArules has broken the A number one rule of coaster enthusiats- you can never say anything bad about CP. shhhhhh

That is no rule, not all enthusiasts believe that Cedar Point is #1 and there are many bashers of thePoint as well.

What is with this, X is closed so Magic Mountain was a let down or Wicked Twister was closed so Cedar Point isn't any good? Hello, with 14 other coasters, you couldn't possibly be bored. Try going to Lake Compounce with Boulder Dash closed, now that can be boring, but you're not left to a rusty boomerang and a tame woodie for the rest of the day, you're left with 14 other coasters to ride including the great Millenium Force. If Cedar Point can't satisfy you then what will?(besides a good woodie on the side ;) )

-----------------
Lake Compounce-So Fresh and So Clean Clean

Why don't you just go ahead and talk about how Magnum is sinking while you're at it? The "hearsay" in this thread is almost that ridiculous.

Head banging on WT??? Puhleeze. Doesn't exist. In three laps on Sunday, my ear didn't even touch the OTSR, much less "bang."

I'm by no means a "pointer." If I ranked parks, I would probably place it behind both Busch Gardens, and maybe IOA. However, that's no reason to go expecting to have a bad time. It sounds like your "bad day" (riding 12 coasters, including the continent's tallest and fastest) is the result of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

No, but I can understand where IOA Rules is coning from.

If *I* went to Cedar Point and WT was closed, I know I'd be bumming. After spending money and that most *precious* commodity time (vacation time that is), I might really be pissed. In *my* case, it'd be that I wanted to ride *this* ride not the other 14 (13, too big for Jr. G and I *aint* "renting" a kid ;)). I could have spent that time visiting some other park I'd never been to before. Still, I know *I'd* still have fun, because that's the type of person I am, especially if I'm with people I have love for! But we arent talking about me...

Veracity of this poster's statements aside, the truly interesting part of this thread is the fact that so many people jumped up to "defend" the park. I mean, people were "quick" to give excuses for the park. I have no idea what is wrong with the rides or why there were no workers around the ride. But I am assured that CP (LIKE ANY OTHER PARK) would want to fix the problem as quickly as SAFELY possible. Too bad other people didnt didnt give the same "benefit of the doubt" to another park when *its* Intamin creation was having difficulties ( http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forums/thread.asp?ForumID=11&TopicID=10965 )

True, I think that it is possible to have a good day at Cedar Point without WT (hell, you could take out every installation after Magnum and I'd STILL have a great time there!). But again, to me, that is not the point of interest of this thread. I'd like to see a little more of this "look at the bright side" stuff applied to 'The World's Largest Regional Them Park Operators" or else all the "fangirls" are subject to me saying "You're full of crap".

And for the record, "I *do* think that most of y'all are "fanchicks who are full of crap" ;)

You just watch...most of these people saying that IOArules should stop complaining will be some of the first to complain about a slight, really-doesn't-matter problem at a Six Flags park.

It wasn't commendable it was dissapointing only Raptor was open. We paid extra to stay at one of the CP hotels that allows early entry. We were told MF, WT, Raptor, Mantis, and Power Tower would be open. Only Raptor was. Also, according to people at the park, WT has been down since Friday. It doesn't take that long to get a part.

I agree with you here, and I hope this does not happen to me in August when I stay there. The park has said these rides will be open for the people who stay at the hotel early, and for only 1 of the rides listed to be open is pathetic. People pay alot extra to get this bonus 1/2 hour to ride Millennium Force, and them not opening up the ride for the 1/2 hour rips alot of people off.

I think it all boils down to being frustrated more than anything else. I myself would be frustrated if I was in IOARules shoes. However I think your topic title is whats sparking the negative feedback to this thread.

As to follow what Jeremy (2Hostyl) pointed out with the link to the SROS problem, it does appear to be a double standard here. I am sure Six Flags had to wait for parts to be shipped in for Superman just like CP probably has to wait for parts on WT.

Bottom line here is, let IOARules vent his frustration just like alot of us here do the same with the SF parks. Its healthy to do this once in awhile. :)

""To be the man, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!, You got to beat the man""!!!

Ahhh lemme add my 2 cents in here..

I live In Pa..an hour from Hershey, an hour from Dorney and 2 from SFGA..but GUESS where we go?

We rather go to Cedar Point which is a 9 HOUR DRIVE..we rather go to PKI-10 HOURS..BGW-5 HOURS!

We do however have season passes to Hershey because its a great small park and if we just want to ride some family coasters, we go there.

When we went to SFO (now SFWOA) is was HORRIBLE. The park was disgusting. It was filthy, the ride operators were rude and half the rides were down. No Villian..No Mind Eraser..No Serial Thriller...NUTTIN!

We do NOT go back to SFGAD because our last 2 visits were downright horrible also. I have complained to the park numerous times and they TRY to justify themselves by giving us gold passes for a future visit..no thanks.

We went 2 days after opening day in 2001 and Nitro was down 1/2 the day then when it re-opened, it was over a 2 hour wait. Scream Machine was CLOSED..Viper closed..(does it ever open n e more?)Medusa was a walk-on..not bad there..Batman..closed..Batman and Robin..closed and has been the last 2 years on the days I visited..it is always needed "a part"..Rolling Thunder-one train and no Runaway Mine Train.

Cedar Point is THE best park that I have ever visited. It is clean..the staff is so friendly..no line jumpers..no nasty "teeny boppers" smoking ahead of you in the queues and blowing the smoke in your face.....they load the rides fast..and always to full capacity with just about all the trains running.

By far is it my 1# park..and until I visit something better..it will stay that way and just keep getting better.

I guess I should re-post this:

The one thing I can't understand is this need to cover up less than stellar things about your favorite park, or even worse, to not want anyone to say negative things about it to, in some insane way, keep it's image "totally" un-tarnished. It's not realistic, and really only makes people hate and resent the park rather than appreciate the great things about it.

You'll never find a bigger Knott's Berry Farm fanboy than me. Yet I won't hesitate to ream the park for running one train on Ghostrider, or the slow ride ops from time to time. Is that going to stop me from going to what is otherwise a beautiful theme park, or anyone else for that matter? Hell no. Is Knott's image forever tarnish by a couple of bad visits? I think not.

Anything run by human beings are subject to foul-ups. Why do people want to pretend that Cedar Point is any different? It's still a great place to visit no matter how you slice it.

The one thing I will say is, I hate when people make stuff up to more strongly make their point. And they think we're all too stupid to read right through it. "Rude ride ops" and "dirty bathrooms" have become cliches that quickly clue me in that the writer is trying to BS me. Ride ops don't do much more than make sure your fastened and send you on their way. They just don't have time to be rude or show you much of their personality at all. Dirty bathrooms simply need to be cleaned, big deal.
