Cedar Point, The Best?

A lot of things seemed to go wrong when I was at CP last Tuesday and Wednesday. My friend and me still had a really good time, but it makes me wonder how CP ever got voted the best Amusement Park in the World.

From the beginning, we got a room at the Radisson Harbor Inn, or whatever it was called. The reason being, early entry to the park. We get to CP and are greeted with nice big signs that say Wicked Twister is closed. I was pretty bummed since it's the only thing I havn't been on, but none of the other people seem to care as the main chatter around the outside of the park was how WT looks just like Superman. Three guys we talked to even said it was boring and it went slowly up both towers; atleast that got my friends mind off it. So we get in at 9. We run to MF only to learn it isn't open; neither was anything else but Raptor. My friend from Oregon had never been to CP before, so we decided to wait it out. Bad idea, it was 11:50 when we got on the second MF ride of the day.

The rest of the day was pretty good, there were practicaly no lines. But jeeze!!! Cedar Points food prices are by far the worst out of every park I've been to. $3.00 for a bottle of water! Also, there was no work going on by Wicked Twister the whole day, which really anoyed me. I ran into some old CP guy in a blue button up shirt and dress pants, his tag said something like "Director of Maintence." He said they were going to test it tonight and it was going to be open the next day. That was a load of crap. No testing and WT was closed Wednesday also, no work going on then either. Another thing that was anoying was that they stopped racing Gemini at 8 p.m. and only the Blue side was open. Whats up with that? I thought the point of a racing coaster was to race, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Wednesday was also the same story with early entry, Raptor was the only ride open except we stopped there instead of going straight to MF, and got 3 quick rides. On Wednesday the only flat ride worth riding besides Power Tower, Chaos, was closed. Again, there were no mechanics working on it, just like Wicked Twister. Like I said in the beginning we still had a good time, especially with a night time ride in pooring rain on MF on Tuesday, but all the problems going on around the park were just irritating. And I'm not even going to go into Free Way...

I'd say that they wouldn't put mechanics out there when the park is open just because you don't want those guys being harassed or distracted by guests. Ride repairs are obvsiouly a very sensitive subject, so they almost might be trying to mask what is actually wrong with the ride as much as possible.

And why does everyone who has never been to CP and ridden Wicked Twister yet keep bashing it as just a clone of S:UE, its totally different, don't know why, sure it looks the same, but it's like comparing Raptor and Mantis because their tracks look similar.

CP was waiting for a part to arrive from New Jersey for Wicked Twister. Chaos was also down for repair and needed a part. No park wishes to keep a ride down for any period of time, but it happens, and there is no viable reason to have maintenance standing around a ride if they can't do anything until the part arrives. Sheesh, your age is showing. I think it was commendable of CP to offer Raptor ERT in place of Wicked Twister.

I'm sure everyone here will agree that CP's pricing of their softdrinks and water is way too much.

CP will close one side of Gemini if the crowds are very low. Considering you said there were practically no lines all day, I'm not suprised they closed one side of Gemini down at 8 pm (afterall you could have ridden it "racing" anytime in the previous 11 hours you were at the park).

So, WT and Chaos were down...what about the other 14 coasters? CP has 68 rides, and only 2 were down.

So you say you had a good time, you got to ride a dozen coasters or so, but you want to question why the park was voted best?

Sounds like you're looking for a fight to me.

Just because he thinks the park doesn't deserve to be number 1 doesn't mean this topic should close. I see nothing wrong with the park but I have never been.

I agree with Jeff though, you rode a dozen coasters and you wonder why it was voted number one? You can't expect to go a park of that size and ride everything! Rides have problems. Every park has rides with problems, it isn't just CP.

I am not the biggest Cedar Fair cheerleader, but their uptime is greater than any other park. Plus you ain't missing much on Wicked Twister anyway. Two rides out of 68 were closed (C'mon), and their food price is just as high as most Six Flags parks. Do you think they are able to build these big ass coasters by selling cookies?

I think it was commendable of CP to offer Raptor ERT in place of Wicked Twister.

It wasn't commendable it was dissapointing only Raptor was open. We paid extra to stay at one of the CP hotels that allows early entry. We were told MF, WT, Raptor, Mantis, and Power Tower would be open. Only Raptor was. Also, according to people at the park, WT has been down since Friday. It doesn't take that long to get a part.

Perhaps CP had to pinpoint the problem before ordering the part? And would you have rather had no rides be open? Just be glad you got to visit at all, not everyone is so lucky.
IOA Rules...

Sorry you were told that. According to all the literature I have recieved, and on cedarpoint.com, it says "ride wicke twister and MF" before the crowds. I have never seen anything that says otherwise.

And, I would honestly have raptor ERT rather then Wicked Twister. Wicked Twister is Great, but after 5 consecutive laps...

Anyway, The best thing about early entry is you can get to the back of the park sooner. While everyone is in front waiting for Raptor or running to MF, you can be walking on Mean Streak, Mantis, CCMR, Gemini, Magnum, and others...

Those who look for the negative while always find it...

IOArules says: WT has been down since Friday. It doesn't take that long to get a part.

How would you know how long it takes to get a part?

Have you ever seen the archived SFO forums? If one bad thing was said about CP there were many posts saying SFx sucked and how CP is #1. The #1 unspkoen rule here is to never badmouth CP.

Back to the topic...I disliked WT, the launch is slow and the back spike is not enjoyable. It has some bad headbanging, i've heard of A LOT of bloody ears. It is similar to S:UE/V©÷ not the same, but not that much different. I enjoyed SUE & V©÷ much more, the holding brake on S:UE is the 2nd best part of any shuttle coaster (#1=Deja Vu's lift)

Dayuum, Your HOT!

(Lesson 1: Some people will always find something to complain about. Others make the best out of what they get)

I was there both those daysIOArules was. It couldn't have been better. (Sure WT, was down, but I was happy with the 14 other coasters.)

CP was nice enough to have Raptor open for early entry both days.

Day 1: I got 6 rides on Raptor, then did every coaster (including Jr. Gemini) by 5. The rest of the day I spent with family and friends, doing more leisurly stuff. Finished the night with 2 more MF rides.

Day 2: Pretty much the same deal. 3 Raptor rides, and 1 MF ride for early entry. Crowds were great, employees were killer (Gotta love that Raptor crew!!!!), and the capacity of the park made for short lines.

How can a park be faulted for waiting for a part to fix Chaos or WT? If they could have paid for it to be "beamed" over I'm sure they would have. So if they were waiting for a part should they have had their maint. crews standing there pretending to work, or keeping the other 60 whatever rides working.

Yes, food and drinks are expensive. Food is about the same as other corporate parks (and you usually get better stuff for your $ at CP if you eat at a place like the Red Garter or Johnny Rockets). Drinks were 50 cents more than most other places. Sure it's a rip-off, but nothing to cry about. I'll pay that extra 50 cents to keep supporting the park. (Gotta keep that great Raptor crew!)

CP should be thanked for having Raptor open that early. Most parks wouldn't have been that nice. Heck, the recent "other" corporate parks I visited didn't even have their big coasters open until about 30 minutes after they were scheduled to be!

Todays lesson: Life doesn't always work the way we want it to. Just make the best out of what you get. There will be always something to complain about if you look hard enough, but don't we have better uses for our time?

I have also heard about a lot of people getting bloody ears.

Anyway, onto other things. I think it is good of IOARules to voice his thoughts. Everyone has their own opinions. Do we have to agree with his opinions? No, but he can still state them here.

As for getting a part. Understandable that it takes time but it upsets me how people are now sticking up for them needing to get a part whereas if this was "another Park in the state of Ohio" that had a ride shut down due to needing a part I know a lot of people would be complaining about it just because of that Park it is at. It's really sad too. I guess it all goes along with that CP Rule...

Yes, but I also heard a girl got her face ripped off on Power Tower. Has anyone here actually gotten a bloody ear from WT?

I believe it was RollerCoasterGod who posted about getting a bloody ear on WT. His TR is in the Trip Report section.

WT is just like any other OTSR coaster that has quick turns - its going to bang your head people, its simple physics, you cant change that. Objects in motion will stay in motion. If you wanted WT to have smooth enough curves to keep your head from banging, those towers would be like 500 ft. tall to get up to a 450 degree twist ... and there would probably still be some headbanging. One of the worst headbanging coasters ever was Steel Phantom, and I learned to ride it without getting hurt at all. It's all in where you put your head. If you have your ears right against the restraints, ,you're going to hit them, if you have your neck there, you're going to hit that. Most of us here should have enough coaster knowledge to predict what way the coaster is going to send us next, all you have to do is anticipate that movement and move your head against the restraint. If it worked on Steel Phantom, it'll work on anything!!! End of tirade ...
It's odd. When some says something negative about the almight Cedar Point, everyone jumps in and scolds the person. Yet, let someone say something negative about a Six Flags park and everyone seems to praise them for finding something negative. Though, this is coming from someone who has never been to CP, not a big fan and is making a judgment about it before going (I don't plan on going anytime soon either...too far, too expense). **gasps from the crowd**

-----------------
...

Lol theshyone. That is exactly what I am saying. I'm not saying I am against or for CP, same goes for Six Flags or any other Park, but it is sad that so many people make those judgements. Each Park has many Great things. Why can't people learn to look at the postives more?!
