I believe it was Kennywood that has announced the 40 person version of a Screaming Swing for next season. *** Edited 7/20/2005 1:36:28 PM UTC by dragonoffrost***
When people suggest Cedar Point should tear down classics like Demon Drop, they start making me question what they mean by having multiple ride categories. I still think the initial feeling on Demon Drop is better than Power Tower. It's a unique ride that takes up little space.
I think too many people rode S:UF and said the pretzel loop is good but the rest sucks so they got jaded on the flying coaster idea. Let B&M do some rethinking on layout and see where they take it then make an opinion. B&M has built 5 flying coasters in the world while building 29 (23 if take out the 6 clone B:TR's) inverts and 11 Floorless coasters(per RCDB). so let them make a few more and then let's see what people think. A lot of things can be done to improve the experience of a flyer and I for one would like to see more built.
That statement doesn't even touch Vekoma who also makes flying coasters with a better layout but a worse harness. Combine the layout of a Vekoma with the harness of the B&M and maybe through in the pretzel loop for an added kick. Oh and make it start and end like a B&M. Now what do you have? I say a better coaster. *** Edited 7/20/2005 2:23:09 PM UTC by dragonoffrost***
Which still leaves one left yet to be announced, meaning, it could still be CP.
Apollo Andy,
Ahhh, now I recall the concept you are talking about. I believe it might have been Gerstlauer. I do remember the animation for it, I'll see if I can find it.
If the correct site does not appear, go to Rides, followed by Thrill and Mega Coasters, and then Thrill Lift at the bottom of the ride list at the left side of the page. *** Edited 7/20/2005 9:20:47 PM UTC by CoasterKrazy***
There are white arrows and more blue and orange lines.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
On a small sidenote, the major theme park to the south of CP is "getting it" with the family oriented rides and laying off the coaster record. They're pulling in business that could possibly be slipping thru CP's fingers because not everybody in a family wants to ride things like MF or TTD. Just a thought. :)
And, Joey, though I can't speak for everyone, I do know that my cousins who live south of Columbus drive about 3 hours to go to CP. It would only take them just over an hour to get to PKI, but they'd rather come to CP because of the roller coasters.

Just adding my fuel to the fire ;)
Although previous additions to the park can't always be applied to predicting future installments, here's something to think about. Since 1985 with the addition of Avalanche Run, Cedar Point has never gone more than 3 years without adding a coaster.
In 2000, CP spent $25 million for Millennium Force. In 2002/2003 they spent a total of $34 million for WT and Dragster. Although these two rides looked like two separate investments on paper and in the press releases, it seems evident to me that they were part of the same capital investment because Dragster's footers had been poured before Wicked Twister was even introduced to the public. I'm not exactly sure how the "payment plans" go between parks and coaster companies, but I'd have to assume that they had already paid Intamin--at least a portion of what they owed--for Dragster.
This brings us to maXair this season. That ride only cost a couple million out of the total $10 million they spent on capital improvements this year. After not adding any rides to the park for two years and only spending what they did for the improvements for this operating season, it would seem to me that they are saving up for something big. What does a new B&M installation cost a park these days? ~$17 million? how about two? ~$34 million? :) Of course the park would probably be willing to spend a little more because there was a $9 million hike between 2000 and the 2002/2003 seasons.
I guess we'll have to wait and see...
