Cedar Point-Construction?

That would leave them at 16 and SFMM would just have to add one and they'd be at 17. It's kind of like how SFMM still has Flashback.

Of course! After all, I can't count the number of times I've tried to decide whether I should drive 2 hours to sandusky or fly five hours to LAX to ride coasters. If SFMM had one extra coaster, why, my decision would be made for me!

(Hint: I can't count them because there weren't any.)

Brian Noble,

That's not what I meant at all lol. I know that Cedar Point and SFMM don't take crowds away from eachother....they're on opposite sides of the country lol.

All I was getting at was that CP and SFMM both claim to have the most coasters in the world, and I don't think either of them would want to lose that title.

^ Even if SFMM ended up with one more coaster than CP, CP could just claim that they have the most "operating" coasters. I've seen more absurd claims come out of some theme parks, that one's not even a stretch.
Or maybe, just maybe they could market that you'll like the park anyway.

You know--like every other park that doesn't have the most rolly coasters and manages, somehow, some way to stay open.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

Since when was GL competition to Cedar Point. They did things seperately. I can see you saying that when it was six flags, but i still doubt then that six flags was stealing customers from Cp all those three years or so. Maybe that is why they sold them to Cedar Fair. Cedar Fair didnt need to buy them out because of competition sake. I can tell you that, but i agree that in a business standpoint it made sense to have them close to each other for a franchise of parks within the midwest.

I can see them getting a coaster, kinda with the rumor going around that SFMM is getting one. That is the record that CP cares about most. Height is nothing they lost that many times over, so whatever. I also thought this over, if they had the rood there, they should think about moving WWL over there to put all the water rides closer, and then they could put the coaster in the old WWL spot. This was also a rumor, what do you think about that.

Also from what i can see the CF park that really needs a coaster or at least something is MIA that park has a few coasters and nothing new since ST or the Wild mouse, which hardly will keep people happy for more than a few years, you always want something new. *** Edited 7/15/2005 6:51:43 PM UTC by MagnunBarrel***

That is the record that CP cares about most.

Bullpucky.

Edited to add: the one they care about is the consecutive years of increased dividends to the unitholders.

Is the rollercoast thing meaning anything anymore after that? What can they call themselves, always had a good ring to it?

Resident Arrow Dynamics Whore

Ok, first of all read what I said:

The only reason they were on that kick was the competition was building them faster. Now they own that competition. They are taking their time with things now, being that they have some breathing room with SF outta there. I'm not saying SF ever posed a major threat to them, but they weren't taking any chances.

Ok, now that you've read what I said again, where am I stating anything about the tallest or fastest anything at CP, and where am I saying GL was competing. Note the "SF" in the sentances. And also note the last sentance.

The last thing I said was :

They will put something fresh into each park.

Meaning, you probably won't see a floorless at CP because of the very popular Dominator at GL. However, a B&M sit down isn't out of the question. Perhaps a Dive coaster? Where at GL, we will never see the likes of a MF, but we could see perhaps the likes of that Turbulence ride that is still waiting to be built. Thats out there, I know, but it's just an example of how I see them keeping things fresh at both parks. So the GP wants to take in both.

Although this thread has gotten off topic....

I don't think Cedar Point has anything to worry about. There are no up-and-coming parks that are likely to steal the "Voted Best Amusment Park 7 Years In A Row". The nearest park that could be considered would be SFMM. Which IMHO, will never get it, unless they fix the rides that are SBNO. As far as the speed and height wars, I think it may be over, or resting. But lets look at some things. Other parks don't have the advantage Cedar Point does. Because Cedar Point is on a peninsula, they don't have neighbors to say "its too loud", "coasters obstruct my view of the sky", or somthing like that. Overall, they will always continue to hold the worlds tallest or fastest. Maybe not this year, maybe not 2006, but soon.

lets take Geauga Lake for example. It used to be out in the middle of a heavly wooded area, with only the endless white fence, and a few houses near by. Now, a huge shopping center has moved in right next door. Because of this, they are limited on height (I belive). Cedar Point will never have anyone move in next door, except for a ship (or boat), or two.

I belive that if Cedar Point would get a new coaster, a B&M Flyer would do well. Because this seems to be the only major coaster type they don't have. That is the only problem that Cedar Point has. They are limited to Coaster Types. They pretty much have every (popular) coasters posible. So in the next decade, if they build more coasters, they most likely be somthing very original...

But we also have to look at one more thing... the height record. Every time a height record breaking coaster is built we ponder. "Can we go higher". The answer is yes! But how? Lifts are now out of the question, unless vertical. Because standard 30 - 45 degree lifts take so much space. Also, I think they should have beter height breaking coasters. Millennium Force was the ultimate record breaking coaster, because it wasn't a launch, height, down, end, like Top Thrill Dragster. But because it had turns, and hills, and more hills, and turns. I think if they build a higher coaster, it should be more exciting then TTD. What would be the point of building it if it was a larger version of TTD?

I know I will get flammed for somthing I've said. I have for every post I have ever made on these forums *** Edited 7/15/2005 9:28:35 PM UTC by Keith2005***

The Magic 8 Ball and Dick Kinzel are pointing towards it being a water ride: "Cedar Fair CEO and president Dick Kinzel said originally the park was considering a new water ride for the 2005 season, and that would have been in Frontierland. Kinzel said the park typically likes to keep water rides in one section so guests aren't walking around the park wet".

I am still crossing my fingers for a modern log ride ala Dudley at IOA. All though I would assume they would replace the aging WWL with it, which would put these markings out of the way for that. Although they could have alternate plans for the WWL area in the future.

Who the f--- knows.

I HIGHLY doubt that CCMR or Paddlewheel are going anywhere. I'll eat my own poo if either is not there next season.

Can I get that in writeing and noterized?

I hope they don't do too much to the Frontier Town/Frontier Trail areas of the park. Those sections to me have always the best of the park. If they can, I hope they keep White Water Landing. It's a fun water ride, where you don't have to worry about getting too wet, and one my family usually rides even if its kind of chilly.
um...move Demon Drop...and get rid of Steel Venom? Are you kidding me? Steel Venom is way different than Wicked Twister, and Demon Drop is different than Mr. Hydes. CP doesn't need to get rid of any of their rides. Although they should put in some rides like at GL...maybe some more looping coasters... If CP or GL were to get rid of all the rides that were similar, just to put into perspective, Here are all the rides that would be gone:

Pepsi Plunge, Shipwreck Falls- White Water Landing, Snake River Falls, Grizzly Run, Thunder Canyon, Skyscraper, Steel Venom, Wicked Twister, Dominator, Raptor, Super Himilaya, Matterhorn, Haybaler, Corkscrew, Double Loop, Raging Wolf Bobs, Blue Streak, Paddle Wheel Excursions, Ferry Boats, Kidworks, Happy Harbor, Kiddyland, Mr. Hydes, Demon Drop, Ripcord, Challenge Park Speedway, Thunder Alley Speedway, Woodstock Express, Beaver Land Mine Ride, Monster, Black Squid, Boardwalk Typhoon, Scrambler, Yo-Yo, Wave Swinger, Americana, Giant Ferris Wheel, Bounty, Ocean Motion, Carousel, Dodgems, Merry Oldies, Antique Cars, and probably more.

Basically both parks would not have any rides that make those parks great parks. GL would loose like 5 coasters, CP would too... would it be worth it to make the parks different? Go to any of the Cedar Fair parks websites and see how many rides names are the same in each park. Then say oh CP and GL should be different.

I wouldn't mind a nice western-themed flying coaster back in Frontiertown. Give Cedar Point a chance at a higher themed coaster, and see how they pull through.

Just a wish.

I love it, I know I never said anything about REMOVING anything at either park. I said, from NOW ON, CF will keep CP and GL unique from one another by adding very different attractions to each. I know someone else on here said about removing rides, but I had to state my argument because I'm the one who said that CP and GL will be shaped up to have very different attractions from each other.
To add fuel to the rumor fire: at least one cbuzzer that has solid industry contacts stated that WWL would be gone after 2004. Perhaps that will happen this year instead?

(And, as for the all-in-one-section---I personally think it would be better to spread them out a bit, but that could be the nostalgia of having one in front and one in Fronteirtown back in the day.)

Don't hit me people, but, CP has enough water rides, they can do without WWL. Take it out, and put in a coaster!! :)

CP was amazing, going back next June to ride Maverick

Well here is my opinion...why can't CP design a coaster that is a woodie/steel/water ride and put it on the site of WWL?
