Cedar Point '07 Project

Ask 10 different locals what CP is getting next year and you'll get 10 different answers.

Well, they'll all involved lots of words with -est on the end but otherwise, yeah, 10 different answers.

Let's count the number of sit-down loopers in Amusement Today's Top 20 coaster of 2005...

...

...

One: Incredible Hulk comes in at #19... and it's a launch coaster. Colossus, which I believe is the ride that CP's "new sit-down looper" would be comparable to, is #45. If Cedar Point has 3 coasters in the top 10, and no inversions among them, why all the sudden would they go this direction?

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!

Because there are signs posted saying they "are going in a new direction." ;)

Well... I don't want to stir up any dust... but I was there in Sandusky the other day, and I got to talking to one of the locals.

It was an older local somewhere in his 50's or late 40's I must say. We were night fishing off of the pier where the boat houses are, near the marina by the police station that faces Cedar Point. Anyway, it was a normal conversation that started about politics, fishing & such... then led to other stuff, like why we were here (instead of CP which is a whole 'nother issue)...

...the subject came up about Cedar Point. I just got some decent information from him about how they're running, how they expect to do locally when Kinzel is gone, if the acquisition meant anything locally, and some of the past attractions CP had like the Jungle Larry something-or-other & the dolphin stadium.

...well, I asked him if he's heard anything about the rumor for what's coming next year. He says that he hears it's going to beat Dragster & Millennium Force... says it's going to be taller, but use a traditional lift hill and not a launch. He says that it will cross two other rides in some fashion. He didn't specify which rides, and in what manner, but that's what he read or heard. This is coming from a local resident who's intentions wasn't to stir up rumors... but to just chat. I don't know how much to believe him, but he stuck to his guns & says that it'll have the world's largest loop and as mentioned before, it'll definately be way taller than Dragster.

After visiting the park & the construction area, I really still can NOT see that happening. I don't see the area as being large enough to support a 450' or even 500' coaster... especially not one with a lift-hill. You'd have so much energy after the initial drop, that it could travel for 2 miles on the track without losing that much speed.

Personally, after seeing the triangular track by Breakers Express (and supports), I still say it's going to be a world-record breaking twisting looper as a sit-down coaster. I think it'll go in a very twisty pattern, but each element will be original enough, and may even swoop over the midway or goto Millennium Island (I heard there were flags there).

Either way, my opinion, I'm sticking to my guns & predict a sit-down record 12-inversion looper.

But I heard from a local it'll be a record height & record largest loop coaster... who to believe? Ida know... he seemed sane enough (unless he's been eating too much Lake Erie fish).

Well I'm sure a "local resident" doesnt hear anything about what goes on concerning cedar point business because well, it's cedar point/cedar fair's business. To add to this argument I can assure you that most people in that are will say Dick who? As coaster enthusiests we are in the minority of population, most people would rather be concerned with sports, politics, their own marriages, kids, and work. Most people most likely just "go" to amusement parks and pay no mind to how it operates and why should they? This has to be the most hilarious post I have read in awhile, kudos for making me laugh. You used to be somewhat of a respectable poster on these boards with strong opinions, but maybe I have you confused with someone else. Not for this to be a personal attack (which it isn't) but don't buy into anything you hear from other people who don't really have any connection to the business, esp. local residents.

P.S. There are many who could argue otherwise, but my instincts tell me ths ride is staying within the vicinity of the area already marked off. *** Edited 7/3/2006 2:29:24 AM UTC by mike.s.***

There are numerous reasons why I think a multi-looper would be a fantastic fit for CP, and if they really care AT ALL about Amusement Today's top 20, I'll sell all of my stock tomorrow. There are many many many reasons to build whatever type coaster, and certainly, what Amusement Today thinks (or for that matter, what any poll thinks) is NOT one of them.

That being said, even if the Amusement Today thing was a valid idea, I'd have a simple explanation for why you don't see many sitdown multi-loopers there:

Nobody build's 'em anymore.

Maybe the wood (if it is wood, that is) under the tarp is for renovating the old WWL building for whatever it's role with the new ride might be?

Again, I'm not sure how many times I got to state this... but I didn't say I believed him... I'm just translating what he said. I kinda weaseled it outta him (after getting general CP information since the subject came up considering the park was staring us in our face in the nighttime glow) and even tried to downplay what he stated, so it's not as if I'm making it up...

...hell, I honestly think it'd be retarded if CP did try to go higher than Mil & TTD, especially in that area of the park... but it's a he-said/she-said translation on what transpired.

Jeff is currently too busy.

Girls do that to a guy, you know?

^^ If you don't believe it why won't you just let it die? Quit opening yourself to more ridicule and let someone else post something stupid and illogical ... looking at the trends in this thread, it should have already happened by now if you hadn't kept hammering your point home.

'cause... that's why...

Because you think instead of getting beaten & battered around by a bunch of bullies, one may actually MATURELY say something logical like:
"I hear you, but that fellow was incorrect because they do not tell locals anything more than what we hear".

A little maturity is all I asked... but on this site, anything can happen.

mOOSH [don't let 'em get ya down, DBII!]

LOL So why post something you don't believe?
So what you were asking for was something like these posts all taken from page 25:

jasari:
So you think CP sends out special newsletters to the "locals" living within and x mile radius of the park? If that's the case, I must've missed mine because I consider myself a local and I don't know any more than you do. You probably know more than the vast majority of locals, and I'd say the locals who're aware of CP's tendency for record chasing but don't actually have much common sense in the way of coasters are very likely to start or spread crazy rumors.

matt.:
Ask 10 different locals what CP is getting next year and you'll get 10 different answers.

This is in addition to Moosh and my smart-ass answers which should have communicated the exact same point.

Do you need it gift wrapped and presented with a song and a dance?

If the song & dance is in the form of DDR, then yes... I would like it gift wrapped.

I have no idea what this pos
*performs a flawless rendition of Break Down Heavy, B4U Heavy and Candy Heavy*

You're welcome ...

I hope they make a ride with OUT a luanch. Luanch coasters start getting repetitive after a while. The coaster that has cool and unique launches are Mummy and Hulk. I chain lift is fun since you can get a good long view of the park and area around the coaster.
DantheCoasterman's avatar
I agree with you Hamster Boy, it's time for a traditional chain lift.............with many many inversions! :)
SFoGswim's avatar
Inversions are way overrated. I would much rather see another Millennium Force just with a different layout.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
^ Inversions are fun and can really disorient you.

Also I don't want to 2 hours for 20 second ride. I would rather have a nice chain lift and a lot of inverions compaired to a TTD. I also like hyper coasters.
