Cedar Point '07 Project

Ok Ninja, tell us with your infinite wisdom what exactly *does* seem plausible? We have a difinitive straight line of bulky footers at the construction site, we have extremely twisted pieces of track that can pretty much only be inline twists and corkscrew assemblies, and we have supports which have a large number of angled heads, indicating twisting track or overbanks. There are already two "speed" coasters in the park, what else in Intamin's catalogue is left?

Very true. I wasn't trying to sound like I had infinite wisdom... sorry for the misconception. I'm going to give up on my false hope for something new to come around. It still could be something like Storm Runner or Kanonen, but you are right in saying it already has 2 speed coasters. It just sounds weird that CP would add a chain-lift mega looper.

I don't know... when are they gonna build that dang flyer?! ;)

That would be nice (joins picket sign march)

(RALLIES FOR JEFF TO SPEAK- this is a first for a cedar point construction thread that jeff hasn't really said anything. he is prolly busy being summer and all but c'mon!)

Um, Jeff has put in quite a few comments here and there. I'm sure he's going to feel extremely compelled after all of this nagging, though.

^I agree! :)
If this thread gets any bigger we are going to have to start putting volumes or chapters on it.

Hey I think it will be a mega looper.... with a luanch!

Also I just got back from Mexico, that is why I have not been on here for awile. *** Edited 7/2/2006 4:22:16 AM UTC by Hamster Boy***

Yep, it's gonna be a mega-looper.

Blue tarp, this time, wrapped up a bit more tightly.

Or how about this:

So people can actually see it. Sadly, I have not even a guess as to what that could be.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
It's the Cedar Point version of Flashback
:o)

airtime for everyone
I believe somebody at Pointbuzz said they saw the tarp off on their way to work and that it is just stacked up lumber/wood of some sort.

Well... I don't want to stir up any dust... but I was there in Sandusky the other day, and I got to talking to one of the locals.

It was an older local somewhere in his 50's or late 40's I must say. We were night fishing off of the pier where the boat houses are, near the marina by the police station that faces Cedar Point. Anyway, it was a normal conversation that started about politics, fishing & such... then led to other stuff, like why we were here (instead of CP which is a whole 'nother issue)...

...the subject came up about Cedar Point. I just got some decent information from him about how they're running, how they expect to do locally when Kinzel is gone, if the acquisition meant anything locally, and some of the past attractions CP had like the Jungle Larry something-or-other & the dolphin stadium.

...well, I asked him if he's heard anything about the rumor for what's coming next year. He says that he hears it's going to beat Dragster & Millennium Force... says it's going to be taller, but use a traditional lift hill and not a launch. He says that it will cross two other rides in some fashion. He didn't specify which rides, and in what manner, but that's what he read or heard. This is coming from a local resident who's intentions wasn't to stir up rumors... but to just chat. I don't know how much to believe him, but he stuck to his guns & says that it'll have the world's largest loop and as mentioned before, it'll definately be way taller than Dragster.

After visiting the park & the construction area, I really still can NOT see that happening. I don't see the area as being large enough to support a 450' or even 500' coaster... especially not one with a lift-hill. You'd have so much energy after the initial drop, that it could travel for 2 miles on the track without losing that much speed.

Personally, after seeing the triangular track by Breakers Express (and supports), I still say it's going to be a world-record breaking twisting looper as a sit-down coaster. I think it'll go in a very twisty pattern, but each element will be original enough, and may even swoop over the midway or goto Millennium Island (I heard there were flags there).

Either way, my opinion, I'm sticking to my guns & predict a sit-down record 12-inversion looper.

But I heard from a local it'll be a record height & record largest loop coaster... who to believe? Ida know... he seemed sane enough (unless he's been eating too much Lake Erie fish).

Why would a local really care to get his facts straight about the Point? That's enthusiast-bias if I ever heard it. Of course he's heard that it's going to be the tallest, fastest, loopiest, etc., he probably heard it from his grandkids who read these boards ...

It means nothing. That's like ... one step BELOW the Lemon Chill Guy. Can we trademark Fishing Pier Local as the new ridiculous rumor-mongering source?

Did he also try to sell you a bridge in Brooklyn? ;)
No, Moosh, but I was about to make that offer to Mr. Byte. It includes two free passes to Area 51!

So you think CP sends out special newsletters to the "locals" living within and x mile radius of the park? If that's the case, I must've missed mine because I consider myself a local and I don't know any more than you do. You probably know more than the vast majority of locals, and I'd say the locals who're aware of CP's tendency for record chasing but don't actually have much common sense in the way of coasters are very likely to start or spread crazy rumors.

That aside, I most definitely agree with your assessment that there's nowhere near the room in the current construction area for a ride 300+ feet tall. I mean, look at the radius on the swan pond turn around...unless there are some serious trim brakes or that turn is 150 feet in the air, it's just too small for a coaster of such huge proportions and subsequent speed.

I like the idea of the more conservatively sized ride (100-150 foot lift) with just a bunch of inversions. The park only has one or two, if you want to count Mantis, big time loopers, and both are over ten years old at this point. I'd like to think parks are generally striving to offer a well rounded lineup of rides, so a smaller but still crazy in terms of loops coaster makes sense after coasters like MF and TTD.

Edit: Guess I lollygagged around too much on this post, you two beat me to the punch. *** Edited 7/3/2006 12:31:52 AM UTC by jasari***

Hey, I never said I believed him... I'm sticking to my guns on what >>>I<<< believe (world-record looper, but only around 220' tall)... I just thought I'd relate what I was told from him to you.

He knows the area fairly well, gave me a good history on CP, the employment it generates (not huge in terms of Sandusky's jobs), and something about the internationals whom work there... something not positive, but I forgot exactly what transpired. Says that the true thing keeping Sandusky alive in terms of jobs is one of two major industries left in the area (most have departed)... and if that left, it'd really hurt Sandusky... much more-so than CP closing.

He was a nice guy & all... I wouldn't rate the locals (or at least... this guy) below the lemon-chill guy, despite the setting of the fishing pier. He just said that it would cross over two rides (didn't specifiy which) in the area, and would beat out Dragster & Milly for tallest, no matter how much I was trying to down-play the fact that they don't need to go any taller.

Honestly, if it was for world's tallest... I am sure that they would have box-track, not triangluar track... based upon the fact how much box-track MF uses throughout the ride... and the forces & speed it exerts.
