Cedar Point '07 Project

A floorless wouldn't go on the track that's already there.
^Seeing as this is the third Intamin in a row I have to assume that CP had a contract with them for 3 coasters.

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

3 or more? We won't know til 2 years from now when they add another.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
^Oops, I allways forget about WT. Pehaps this is the end of a 5 coaster deal though for CF

Why would CP sign a contract in 1999 (or even farther back) for a coaster to be completed in 2007? Do parks suddenly plan these things out 8 years ahead?

No, but they could have a contract on a coaster. They certainly don't have the design, but there could be an agreement.

Ridiculous and wrong in so many ways I don't know where to start!

^Ok, just floating the idea I have no idea how these things work execpt that they exist. Out of curiosity what are they normally like?

That's painfully obvious! lol ;)

Oh my god guys, like three or four more supports were unloaded in the staging area today. This could mean only one thing....they do indeed still plan to go ahead with construction. Thank god.

What? Why would they have stopped construction?

Sarcasm is lost on a lot of this board.

Why would a park agree to have a coaster designer build a coaster to open 8 years in the future?

Think about it, if parks really worked this way, then they would be writing up contracts for coasters to be completed in 2014. Why would any person running an amusement park be pondering what to build in 2014? I'm sure most major parks could have general master plans or wish lists running that far into the future but it seems a little far fetched to me that in 1999 CP signed a contract outlining the design of a construction to be completed in 2007. Without a design, no less.

ive been here for about 6 years and I cannot count how many time these "coaster deals" have been debunked. JEEZE
Trianglular has been used in launched coasters before.

Who's to say they didn't know 8 years in advance? I think it's very possible. They don't just say I want a really cool record breaking coaster with an all new layout and maybe a new element or 2 and a week later start placing footers. They have known about this for awhile now. 8 years ehhhh I don't know, but who am I to say?

Also just because they have a contract that Cedar Points next 10 coasters or whatever are going to be Intamin exclusive dosen't mean they had any idea what they would build down the road just means buying them in bulk saved them a few dollars. *** Edited 6/27/2006 4:34:47 AM UTC by TonyBlackjack***

Anything can happen to the economy in 8 years. It is probably not that wise to commit oneself to an expensive project that far in advance.
Added a edit with more of my thoughts on it a little late sorry.
If your friends see you going to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse a lot, do they assume you're a repeat customer because you signed a 10-dinner contract with them?

If you ran a rental car company and Honda wanted a 3-year deal for you to buy only their cars...? What if Toyota comes out with something better next year, or if Honda has a bad year for recalls? What if it was Kia underbidding everyone?

What if this had been 1989 instead of 1999 and it had been Arrow instead of Intamin on that alleged 7 year deal? Suddenly it doesn't sound so likely.

Can you think of ANY company in ANY industry where long-term contracts make good business sense?
