Cedar Point '07 Project

Disaster Transport is heavily themed, the trip on the CP&LE railroad from Frontiertown to the Midway has the "Boneville" theming, Cedar Creek Mine Ride is "kind of" themed, Camp Snoopy is one big themefest, and I guess Paddlewheel Excursions could be considered themed.

Paddlewheel is most certainly themed, if not as much, but even more so than some of the other rides you mentioned.

OMG itz a cedar pointer!!!! bwhwahaha.

No but seriously I love the ride. *** Edited 5/12/2006 9:10:12 PM UTC by matt.***

Does any one of you who's suggesting this actually realize that Storm Runner, Speed Monster and the "Intamin AG Accelerator" are the exact same coaster type as Dragster?

Which reminds me of a joke that our Paddlewheel captain said last year in October: "...and over on our right is the worlds largest paperweight...I mean is Top Thrill Dragster...

I'm not saying a Storm Runner type ride is likely or anything, but would the GP even know? They'd both be launched, yeah, but other than that the rides would be totally different. If you put Dragster and Storm Runner side by side eachother in the same park I don't think anybody would be saying "bah its the same thing!" *** Edited 5/12/2006 11:06:12 PM UTC by matt.***

Well, no they wouldn't attract two totally opposite crowds. Its not like teenagers like Dragster and grannies like Storm Runner.

Is this kind of sounding cowboy themed to anyone? "Back up Bronco" was another line.

Um, I think our first clue was that its in the "Frontier Town" section of the park ;)

No, I am pretty confident even the general public would be able to see heavy similarities in Dragster and another Intamin Rocket.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!

Such as what? They're both launched and they have the same track design/shape. Its not as if the GP knows or really cares about the difference in hydraulic launch vs. LIM launch vs. LSM launch so really, Dragster would be almost just as similar to Storm Runner as to Wicked Twister. Its a non-issue. I still don't think a Storm Runner type ride is very likely, but its certainly not because of any sort of similarities to Dragster. *** Edited 5/13/2006 12:48:04 AM UTC by matt.***
The problem with nearly anything that CP has "themed" is that the instant the theming becomes difficult to maintain, it gets chucked over the side.

To wit: caves on WWL, most of DT, back-end of dragster trains, most of the decorative touches of calypso, ...

On the other hand, they've been working on the fit and finish an awful lot recently---all of Oceana/WT midway, for example. Hurricane Hannah's is apparently pretty cool, too, if completely out of place. My wife said it looked like a transplant from Castaway Bay.

^^I'll add the effects in the tunnels on Magnum.

What was up with the WWL caves?

I think the entire frontier town is themed fairly well. Just adding rides that seem like they belong there and naming them with a western theme would be good enough themeing for most parks.

Look at Viper, Raging Bull, Legend, Raven, no fantastic themeing involved yet they are named appropriatly for the section of the park where they are located.

As far as an Intamin Rocket Coaster like Storm Runner is concerned, it wouldn't have to have a top hat element. It could just launch into inversions, hills, and other such elements. If that were the case (and the supports were not yellow), I doubt too many people from the "general public" would think it's just like Dragster.
For what it's worth, a lot of my friends think that Wicked Twister is too much like Dragster. ;)

What was up with the WWL caves?

I don't recall the details, but there was something that was deteriorating, and rather than repair them, they were torn out.

I think unless it is something that "everybody" wants to go on and that it's a one of a kind coaster, it still won't be the most popular. I know the past two coasters they've opened (TTD and MF) have been record breakers and have had huge lines, but unless this is something "amazing" it still won't be as popular as TTD and MF.
I thought the WWL caves were damaged during a storm and just never came back.

Why couldn't it be another launched coaster? CP only has two...PKD has four:

Flight of Fear
HyperSonic XLC
Italian Job Turbo Coaster
Volcano, The Blast Coaster

Not the point I was making.

The notion that Cedar Point [or any park] is limited to some magic number of specific coaster types [wooden, launched, inverted, etc] is a little ridiculous, expecially if the ride experiences are all different...something proved by PKD's four launchers.
