Cedar Point already disputing Magic Mountain claim of most coasters

Looks like Cedar Point is going to fight this claim of most coasters in a park. Superman: The Escape is going to be disputed as a coaster which, if held true, would make Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point tied for most coasters in a park.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has a little dillemma on their hands. Now, tell me this. If the first and only goal they had was to get the MOST coasters, they'd add, omm... Let's see. Boomerangs (Deja Vu) and portable coasters (Flashback.) Hmm, I wonder.
If they were going for quality, Flashback would have been gone eight years ago. Trust me, they want quantity. They WANT to remove Flashback, but no, Cedar Point would tie them then.
Also, can I move some thinking along? I HATE to turn this thread into a S:TE: Coaster or not thread, but it seemed bound to head that way from the start. S:TE is NO MORE than Demon Drop (or Stuntman's Freefall) that has a vehicle propelled up the tower before being propelled down. The only difference? You're going up FAST instead of in a doomed elevator shaft.

If SFMM was only concerned about quantity or quality why build a 196ft tall invertigo when they could have just picked up the standard model?
If they were concerned about quantity over quality why build the most amazing prototype concept since the B:TR, with a 200 ft lift hill and 3600 ft of track? Stats far less then these would have still easily wowed the GP and enthusiast community. I'm not saying that every coaster in the park is a diamond, (far from it) but there are gems there. As for the kiddie coaster(s), yea so what? Every park needs to cultivate its young thrill seekers. 20 years ago
Colossus and Revolution scared me just by looking at them, I think back and whish they had the kiddie coasters then, young enthusiasts have to start somewhere. How dare MM have attractions that appeal to the children that we all once were (and some of us still are), let alone call them coasters.
As for S:TE, your right its not a "traditional" coaster. Nevertheless, I do believe its a coaster. I could write a 10 page essay on why I think S:TE is a coaster, but rather than do that I will suggest that in the near future we are going to see many rides defy the simple classifications that so many feel compelled to sort coasters into. Many in the enthusiast community will have to put their foot in their mouth eventually.

BM Coaster, I will agree that Disaster Transport is a not a coaster. It has no rails, and that is one of the major definitions of a coaster to me. I don't think PKD counts Avalanche Bobsled as a coaster, so why does CP? The whole record thing is just a scheme to get people to spend more than one day at these parks. They're not stupid. It's pretty impossible to ride all the coasters in one day and do the other attractions too.

Let it be known: Any time I see somebody bashing SFMM for claiming the most roller coasters (or, for that matter, calling S:TE a "thrill ride" and not a coaster), I'm going to look at his or her track record. Whoever I happen to catch first as listing S:TE in their track record and saying it's not a coaster is getting ripped a new one.
This is nothing but a simple, trivial argument in which neither side will give. There'll never be a definitive post that will make Cedar Point fans say, "You know what? They're right!" And we all know that. This is utterly pointless.
And stop comparing this to Decision 2000. That election was obviously flawed, and not just in Florida. The Democrats had more than enough reason to dispute it. Plus, that was the Presidency of the United States of America -- it's a big deal! This isn't! In the greater scheme of the world, I can guarantee you that the record holder for most coasters in a park in the year 2001 is all but completely insignificant. (Don't mistake that for an argument for CP, please.)

let's do this. Instead of having a record for most coasters, let's have a record for most "thrill rides that have cars and travel on track." This will make SFMM have the most "thrill rides that have cars and travel on track" , and will calm down CP. Now CP will not cause a dispute about what is a coaster. Both parks will be happy. Now the doors will be closed, the eggs will be coolin, the jello will be jiggling....hehehe.
I have not been to either park but will be opting to go to CP instead of SFMM next year. Bottom line is, quality is more important than quantity. Who cares if you have 14 coasters! As far as I'm concerned, after going on all of them once, the only ones that I ever reride are the top few. They may have 14 coasters or whatever, but they only have 5 or 6 for me as I will not spend time on the less fun coasters and instead get more rides on the ones I really like. I'm sure a lot of you do the same. Nevertheless, 5 or 6 good coasters in one park is awesome!!
Cedar Point could claim the most complete circuit roller coasters in the world or the most coasters on the east coast. And just for debating purposes i do believe that Superman and boomerangs are a cheap way of adding to coaster counts. But if CP would claim most complete circuit coasters I think all the true coaster fans would know where to go.

Just a side note, EHendo, there was NOTHING cheap about S:TE. What is the running total now, 20 million?
I totally agree with whoever said that if SFMM were going the cheap route, X would have been much smaller and DV would have been a standard Invertigo.
BTW aren't ALL coasters considered thrill rides anyway? (At least they are supposed to be thrilling.)

And this ridiculous idea that Superman is the same as a freefall has got to go. Freefalls are designed especially to do one thing, drop you. Superman was designed to shoot you out over 1,000ft of *track*(in coaster cars)at 100mph. Two entirely different designs. Intamin called it a thrillride, SFMM calls it a shuttle launch coaster. Believe what you want, it's not going to change anything. And last time I checked, parks are free to call things *they* pay for, whatever they want. Kinda like CP conveniently calling those banked turns on MF non-inversions, when we all know differently ;)
