Cedar Point already disputing Magic Mountain claim of most coasters

Posted | Contributed by Chitown

Looks like Cedar Point is going to fight this claim of most coasters in a park. Superman: The Escape is going to be disputed as a coaster which, if held true, would make Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point tied for most coasters in a park.

Read the story from The Sandusky Register.

Of course the profit margin on a hotel is better. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Of course, I'd rather ride a new coaster, than order room service ;)
I think that SFMM is just desparate of having the most. They build a kiddie coaster and two other coasters that they didn't put any thought into. If they are that desparate just let them have it.
Shuttle coasters are not coasters. A roller coaster (to me) is a coaster with a chain lift (elevator lift). Counting S:TE a coaster is just like calling Power Tower a coaster.
Just wait until 2002, Cedar Point will blow SFMM's two coasters this year out of the water. Cedar Point is after quality, they build one every other year and they build good coasters. Just compare:
Raptor is much better then B:TR
Mantis beats out Riddler's revenge
Millennium Force destroys Goliath
Power Tower is better than S:TE
Magnum is better than Viper
Cedar Point's Mine Ride beats out SFMM's mine ride

I agree go full force w. the comparison. however, i still consider lim launched coasters like s:te coasters. i mean, if you don't count that (i do count it) then you really can't count dejavu either becuase that's awful simular, except it has inversions and is inverted.
Get over it, SFMM has more coasters, period. Whether you think Cedar Point's coasters are better is strickly a matter of opinion. As far as thought going into their coasters, I think lots of thought went into X. It is IMO, the single most astonishing concept of the last 10 years, and will blow everything else away in 2001. If SFMM keeps building them like this, you can all whine all you want about CP's coasters. I will truly be riding the most extreme, cutting edge coasters in the world!

Don't playa hate, congradulate! :) *** This post was edited by Middleman on 12/23/2000. ***
Boy, some of you guys could wring the excitement out of a nude Meg Ryan pictorial :( This is just the most BORING subject on the planet. Next topic please!

Wow! This is a pretty long thread. I think I'll add something to it... In my opinion I applaud SFMM for adding coasters and putting up competition for the "most coasters." My home park is CP and I love it! But I'm putting away my bias towards homeparks and saying that everyone should be happy to hear about this. Apparently that's not the case. In the end I don't see it as a park winning for having the most coasters, I see it as the people and thrill-seekers the winners.

Think about it, we are going to see a whole new type of rollercoaster. All because someone wants to capture the records and get attention. The amusement park goers will come out the winners because of other parks venturing out to implement totally new ideas of rollercoasters.

I say who cares if a park has the most rollercoasters. I think it's great that SFMM is going all-out to capture the record. Remember all good things must come to an end. CP has had the most rollercoasters for at least the past 5 years. It's good for the people to see this kind of competition. Don't you think?

***Why can't all parks have a Millennium Force?***
(First of all, this isn't in an angry tone just nice and calm) Go Full Force, it is obvious you have a bias for Cedar Point...as your user name also suggests. I would like to point out to you that Mantis is riding in the likes of your Magnum hyper now than Riddler at SFMM is. And we all know what Magnum rides like now... And on your feeling of the park not "thinking through" with their rides, how is that possible? If they didn't think, they wouldn't have 3 spectacular rides waiting for what the thrillseekers want in 2001. And if shuttle coasters aren't coasters, then I guess Mr. Freeze(s) @ SFOT & SFSL, Viper @ SFOG, Montezooma's Revenge @ KBF, Superman Ultimate Escape @ SFO, Greezed' Lightning @ PGA, ALL BOOMERANG(s), and other shuttles aren't coasters? If CP were to bring down that 'shuttle coasters' aren't coasters, then I think there would be A LOT of parks that will be more than angry. I personally would rather ride those two monster prototypes at SFMM than camp out at CP's Lighthouse Point for 2001. =)

Life sucks.
So does PGA's Grizzly.

Go Full Force, your comparisons are simply your opinions. You also compare a hyper to a giga, and a hyper to a mega looper. Mantis better than RRv? Wrong! CCMR better than Goldie? Wrong! Let's check your track record, shall we? Oh, you have not even been to SFMM, how can you compare rides you have never ridden?

Last time I checked CP's #13 coaster was a kiddie coaster. Or did you forget.

No thought went into X or DV, are you watching the same videos as the rest of us?

Your comparison of Power Tower to Superman is just rediculous, and you know it.

It's ok to be jealous of SFMM, I was jealous of CP when they were the coaster capital of the world.

CP is a good park, worthy of #2 status, Long Live THE KING: SFMM, the NEW #1!

"X" marks the spot in 2001!
Come on its Christmas guys. Can't we all get along? (This is my last post on this stupid topic that gets everyone at each others necks!! Merry Christmas all!)

Oh Good. Do any of you guys know how to get a chick out of the VCR?
OK, we've gotten WAY off the subject here. I thought this way about Cedar Point's case against Superman:The Escape? Frankly, I don't care what any of you think about Cedar Point/Six Flags Magic Mountain. Most of you haven't been to both parks anyway, because if you had, you'd appreciate having the two super powers of rollercoaster right here in the good ole USA, whether you completely like both parks or not. I have NEVER seen such negativity spouted from *supposed* enthusiasts. Please, find another hobby quick!

If im correct, im prety sure Batman the Ride was the first or one of the first inverted coasters ever. Its a good ride but six flags has cloned the crap out of it. Now lets think here, X is the first of its kind. Will the same thing happen to it? I believe if X becomes popular CP will come up with a much better design, like they did with raptor (my opinion). But hey, how cant you be happy for MM? They are sorta going to "open the flood gates for this type of ride". Just SFGA did with the floorless. i mean look how popular they've gotten in the past year. All i can say is the more coasters the better
Superman is a coaster!!!! If it isn't, then is Montezuma's Revenge a coaster either? It's even listed under coasters on RCT.
Simcoaster, I have. CP is better than my home park of SFMM.

I really don't care if SFMM wants to call Superman the Escape a coaster or not. Cedar Point just needs to keep building more and more rollercoasters!!! Period!!!!!!!!!
Who cares if Superman the Escape is a coaster or not. It is a great ride and that all that matters imo.

All of this arguing is just plain stupid and everyone knows it. No one is better than the other. I myself am a diehard Cedar Point fanatic. Do I care about this situation? NO. Sure, a park might have more than CP, but that does NOT mean that it has a higher excitement rating for the coaster going public. Roller coasters provide thrills, not overblown cheapshot arguments. You guys are treating this like it's the arms race gearing up for a new war or something. You all are too old and too wise to fall into this discrepancy that is far too immature for anyone. If you're going to argue, take it somewhere else. This is for people who LOVE rollercoasters and to talk about them, not to fight about who has the most, and which ones are the best. Grow Up.

kennywood should try to gain the most coasters
You have to give credit to CP on disputing the claim to the most coasters. A title like that attracts a fair amount of business from people who not familiar with what parks have to offer. Those of use who are familiar with both parks can make an educated judgement as to which park has the best coasters, but what about the people out there that don't know much about these parks. Claims to records draw attention to a park and make it more appealing. As for counting the coasters I believe that only coasters that are true full circuit coasters and no kiddie coaster, should be counted.
OK, wait a minute! Now it seems to me that if S:TE is a coaster and MF and S:TE are both Intamin's than why would they say MF is the tallest, fastest, etc. and call it the first GIGA(300+ ft coaster)? Seems to me it makes perfect sense that S:TE is not a coaster when the builder does not even say it is one, right?
