If Cedar Point is demanding a re-count, i hope they don`t send it down to Florida, if they do i`ll be protesting at IOA:)
Lots of people are asking "who cares?" (mostly CP locals ;)) I'll tell you who cares. The General Public and park owners. Think of all the free press a record like the "most coasters" title gives you. We have all seen the Discovery Chanel shows. How many times have they done specials on big parks, then save the one with THE MOST COASTERS for last, (so far, always CP) because that is the most impressive thing to make a TV show about.
Six Flags has the most parks, and Cedar Fair (a MUCH smaller operation in comparison) has had the most coasters (at one park) record for a long time, that was a pretty big burn on Six Flags.
-------------
"X" marks the spot in 2001!
True, the record-holder will be the subject of a lot of "free press", that will hurt CP... but they should have seen this coming and if it means that much to them, they should have done something for 2001 to protect their record, because SFMM has been threatening CP's record for quite some time now
What I don`t get is why doesn`t CP just say "Most Coasters East of The Mississippi in The World!". That`s what i don`t get. It`s not like 2 close parks that have to compete with each other. One is in the East and the other in the west. Is it likley that a family says on vacation, should we go to Cleveland or L.A. Usually (unless enthusiasts) amusment parks are just along the trip where the trip doesn`t revolve around going to the parks. I seriously doubt that SFMM has a LIM ride people will go to SFMM instead of CP.How much can that hurt their buisness.
Thank god! Cedar Point is disputing against Magic Mountain. Superman:The Escape is not a roller coaster. It is a thrill ride. It is not a complete full curcet roller coaster. Cedar Point is far better then Magic Mountain. Lets count the good rides at each park:
Cedar Point:
Millennium Force
Raptor
Mantis
Mean Streak (it is not a rough ride for all you wimps)
Magnum XL 200 (it is a good ride but not that great)
Magic Mountain:
Goliath
Riddler's Revenge
For the other rides at MM aint that great. Batman TR is a clone of so much other ones i dont remember how much there are. Viper was a clone of GASM and Shockwave. It is mad by Arrow and any coasters made by Arrow sink but Desperado and maybe Magnum.
Point is that Magic Mountain likes more rides. The dont car about if they are good.
Cedar point goesfor thrill. Millennium Force is that best ride out there no matter what!!!!
All and all, Six Flags worries about Magic Mountain the most. They put all of there money into park rides. What about SFEG or SFA??????

Best Steel
1.) Millennium Force - CP
2.) Medusa - SFMW
3.) Top Gun - PGA
4.) Stealth -PGA
Cedar Point is much better. SF should just give up, they should focuse on building better ride for the other parks that hasnt gotten any new rides. I dont see why SF is spending all their money in one place, its just plain dumb.
Right on JB842. Like my "home park" SFEG. They havnt got any good ride since, well.. EVERY!!!

I want to put this situation into perspective. Cedar Fair and Six Flags run their parks in different ways. Cedar Point likes to take their time in terms of building new rides and attractions, whereas Six Flags likes to put as much as they can into a single park at a single time. Look at SFOhio. Last year they put in four new coasters, several new rides and new "theming", but the park in no better than when it was Geauga Lake. The same thing goes for SFMM. They are putting in 3 coasters so they can have the title. However this doesn't make the park the best park in the world. It still has clones(cause they're cheaper to build), and nothing else in the park has changed. They put in nearly a coaster a year with many misses. CP, however, spreads their intruductions of new rides over several years (an average of 1 every 2 years). Both companies have different ways of introducing new rides. i.e., I agree that S:TE is a coaster, but should it be considered 415' high when the cars don't even reach that height? For marketing reasons, it is good to have the most, and ___est coasters, but as riders, we are the winners. We get to ride great rides and have fun doing it. In the end, both parks have their own unique qualities, and their own unique rides experiences. MM is located off a highway where there are nothing but brown hills. CP is located on a peninsula off Lake Erie and has been around for 130 years. Their rides are vastly different. So forget about all this most stuff. In the end, we still get great rides. MM will continue being the park it is, spendind money like water and building coasters nonstop, and CP will still be voted #1 by nearly every poll(i.e. Amusement Today, Inside Track, Applause Award, and many other publications and organizations) for its combination of coasters, rides, and other attractions.
True, Superman The Escape is not a full-circuit coaster, but that can be said of all shuttle loop coasters since they do not really complete a "full circuit"- that would mean Deja Vu, as well as all Boomerangs and Invertigos that are operating can not be called coasters, either. And if Deja Vu can't be counted, that means that CP would have more coasters than SFMM. But we all know the shuttle coasters are coasters, therefore so is S:TE!
Boomerangs and Invertigo's have a lift hill. A Shuttle Coaster, i.e. Superman The Escape and Montezuma's Revenge, are exactly that, Shuttle Coasters - a "Thrill Ride", not Roller Coasters.
Furthermore, CP has their own version of Perilous Plunge, which is a coaster because it runs full circuit on a track, therefore, CP has 15 as well. To me, if it doesn't have a chain lift or other type of climbing assist, then it's not a "roller coaster" by definition, but it is at least thrill ride. Additionally, what about the Power Tower and Supreme Scream? They're on wheels and have a lift and give you the experience of the best parts of a coaster, the drop and a bunny hoop.

Is this going to be like Election 2000? I geuss Superman: The Escape is the disputed ballot! I think that Superman: The Escape should be included as a coaster. Any ride which consists of a car or train with running wheels is a coaster by my standard. I demand a recount of all the coasters! lol
Well this was bound to happen sooner or later. CP does not have alot of land to expand in the next few years. Other parks have so much more land to build on. PKI for example has hundreds of acres for future development, I am sure they, and other parks will someday hit the 20 mark, as for CP, they should just be happy with what they have and get over the fact they cannot always be the best.
According to the guiness book of world records, the fastest coaster in the world is S:TE. They classify it as a coaster. I don't know if I totally agree with that or not but hey, I'm not an "official" or anything. If you don't count S:TE as a coaster, then Mr. Freeze at SFSTL can't be counted either because it's not a complete circuit. This is worse than a DANGLING CHAD!

You Go Cedar Point!
How dare they try to count a "shuttle-launch" as a coaster.....
That should be a crime....
People these days just can't be trusted!
(Sarcasm, Sarcasm, Sarcasm!)
What does the Guinness Book of Records know about coasters? Less than us, obviously.
On Cedar Point's part, this is very immature. Who cares? It's like being a sore loser, you snooze you lose.

"And in my town you can't drive naked"
Blink 182's Wasting Time
And the crying and whining continues. OK people, reality check, SFMM can call Superman whatever they want, whether you like it or not. SFMM will have the most coasters in the world in 2001, whether you like it or not. Speed:The Ride is a rollercoaster(and it doesn't have a chain lift), whether you like it or not. Get over it, and go have Christmas with your families! Jeez!

Have you ever gotten the feeling that you've been here before? Six Flags Magic Mountain 2001...
Amen to Joey Stewart!! But lets not get into a U.S. Supreme Court battle over roller coasters! Heres a thought: If SFMM built S:UE as a "roller coaster" then they will assume it is indeed a "roller coaster". This all comes down to the definition of a roller coaster. Can I hear from someone with a Webster's nearby?
(If definition is spelled wrong please don't hassle me about it. My spell check isn't working)
(That's irony for ya)

Oh Good. Do any of you know how to get a chick out of the VCR?
Mamoosh... welcome to the site (if I didn't notice previously). Didn't I meet you on the MF platform this year?

Is Al Gore the new president of Cedar Point? Just a thought.
LOL!!! This is so funny. You guys are actually trying to dictate to parks what is and isn't a rollercoaster. These parks spend millions of dollars each year on these contraptions, and for what? For you guys to tell them what they should call their rides? And I don't remember SFMM saying at their press conference that they have now become the best park in the world because they have 15 rollercoasters. Time to pick a new fruit, them grapes is gettin' sour. :)
