Cedar Point already disputing Magic Mountain claim of most coasters

Posted | Contributed by Chitown

Looks like Cedar Point is going to fight this claim of most coasters in a park. Superman: The Escape is going to be disputed as a coaster which, if held true, would make Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point tied for most coasters in a park.

Read the story from The Sandusky Register.

I suggested that a better way to dispute the claim would be to build two coasters. ;)

i guess this means we won't be seeing any launched or fowards/backwards coasters at the point anytime soon. Maybe launched or fowards/backwards "thrillrides" but not coasters

I just ask myself, would I count Superman as a coaster if I had the chance to break a world record and bring more attention to my park? Can't say that I wouldn't. But your right Jeff, whining isn't going to change anything, just build more coasters. I think that would make us all happy :)

Have you ever gotten the feeling that you've been here before? Six Flags Magic Mountain 2001...
Cedar Point could just stretch things a little bit and count Demon Drop as a coaster. It really isn't all that far fetched.

(No, I didn't know that Magic Mountain had Freefall, I've never been there and I'm unaware of the rides there - thank you for enlightening me :))

Yes, but then Magic Mountain could count Freefall as a coaster. Really Cedar Point just needs to build new coasters. Which would make us the winner. :)

Ever heard of Freefall??? Except for the paint, and the name it's Demon Drop at Magic Mountain; ergo, your idea won't work.

And what if the situation was reversed? What if SFMM had a world-record 14 coasters without a shuttle of any kind and CP had only 12 including an Intamin Reverse Freefall Coaster [S:TE]. Then in 2001 CP, in an effort to take the title of "most coasters" away from SFMM, added an Arrow4D, a SuperInvertigo, and another kiddie coaster. I'd be willing to bet CP would have their version of S:TE in their coaster count if SFMM wanted a recount.

People...people...does it *really* matter who has the most? I really don't understand why so many people are zealots when it comes to SFMM or CP. People defend their park of choice as if they're defending their country and the other is the enemy. Each park has coasters of quality and coasters that leave us [NOT the GP] wanting something better. Each park has operation policies we complain about. Niether park is perfect.

I live in LA and SFMM is one of my home parks but I love CP, too. It is possible to love both and not have to pick one over the other. But if they want to have a coaster war we are the benefactors!

Let's remember what it is that brings us together -- our love of coasters -- and not let our various opinions and taste in coasters tear us apart.

It doesn't matter in the end, we are the winners because we have so many coasters to ride! But as a big CP fan, I would personally like to see them reclaim their crown as the park with the most coasters. Nevertheless, good job, SFMM, now I have more reasons than ever to vacation in California.
Geese! Even if SFMM wanted to get really on edge they could count Colosus s 2 coasters and Superman as 2! Main Even CP is in on the debate , Is S:TE a coaster! Is CP Jelious they don't have a 100 MPH Scream Machine? All S:TE needs is real coaster cars like S:UE and it would easily be called a coaster. Look if People call Perlious Plunge a coaster S:TE is a coaster to! CP fans don't gripe about that eithier! Just cuss its SFMM CP people ***** and moan which they shouldn't!
Why do people care so much as to who has the most? Bottom line is that if they are all good rides, then just enjoy them. Period. Most every park has a coaster or two that are great rides and we all make it a point to try & get to as many as possible, so why not talk about the coasters themselves instead of about who has more. If I hear that stale argument again I think I might barf. CP & SFMM are both great parks w/great coasters. Can't we all just get along??? LOL!!
Amen Volleyguy and Mamoosh!!! I'm an MM man myself, but if I ever get to Ohio (Which I can't wait to do!!), you bet I'll have all the fun I can on MF, Magnum etc., and you won't hear me arguing over who has whatever record!
This is beginning to sound a lot like the election.
Amen to that too!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with rob. Who cares if one park has more coasters than another one. We are the winners when the parks try to take the title away from each other, But I have to admit I have never beem to MM. But I will be there by 2002
At least Cedar Point is consistent with their bickering.

I thought Paul Ruben said that the Superman is classsified as a "coaster" from Intiman
It seems that all the parks going for the most coaster title focus on quanity, not quality. Sure both parks have 2 or 3 good rides but (at least CP) the rest of the coasters are old, rough, and obsolete. Millennium Force is excellent but I think the rest of the coasters are boring (wow the steepest drop on a stand-up coaster!:( )I don`t care about both parks, the lines are too long and they`re both far away. I`d rather focus on my home park which has a good amount of coasters but are all good (excluding one). I could just drive a minute, whip out my season pass and ride all the coasters without having to wait tht much.

P.S. I`m not putting THE PARKS down i`m just saying quality, not quanity.
