Now we know what $15 parking gets us. :)

  • Ultra-Twister from "The Park formerly known as SFDL"

Ultra Twister was at SFA not SFDL. Everything seems to point to it being damaged beyond repair and removed from the park. I thinking of AW's old stand up that was located to SFDL.

A day at the park is what you make it!

They don't have a standup coaster (Batman)?? Maybe, they are just getting rid of it.

You're right, coasterguts.. I had the wrong coaster in mind. It was the standup that was in pieces at SFDL, not UT. I do remember seeing Ultra Twister @ SFA the 2 times I went this year. I shouldn't try making lists late at night after being up for almost 36 hours with no sleep. :)

My rolls... :( I love this ride and I am thankful it is not being scrapped. I'm glad I got to ride Robin and Batman (this summer) in the lap-bar only, barrel-roll glory. Here's hoping for a good modification.

It's a good ride but man does that line drag.

Perhaps they're not removing it? Perhaps it's just a good, old-fashioned re-tracking? New physical steel pieces? I know it's rare on a steel coaster, but that doesn't mean it's impossible?

Our wonderful friends at Screamscape (oh how we hate thine name) - are now reporting from their (ahem) "sources" that Chiller's zero-g rolls will be taken out completely and replaced with a piece of straight track to connect up to the spikes for the return trip.

YAWN! I mean the zero-g rolls add that element of shock and surprise...now it would just be a straight drop down, no fancy funkified things? Jeez....

Then again, can you truly 100% trust Screamscape?

Has anyone tried to call the park to ask about this?

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

100%? No. While I agree he posts some pretty wild rumors occasionally his sources [many of whom are the same as mine] are much more often right than wrong.

Yeesh...then I really hope this rumor isn't true...and that they'll do something better with this than "straight track".

Methinks "straight" track is implying not another inversion. While I don't know for sure seems a double up/down [depending on direction of travel] would be a good fix.

Again, I have to ask; Why remove the zero-g rolls? Were they painful? Did the trains cause problems, and if so, why?

Personally, from when I rode them...they're not painful at all. I enjoyed the hell out of them. Sure, the ride overall is a bit bumpy, but I don't see how eliminating the rolls would help...unless it was a train problem, but I don't even recall the exact reasons why it shut down for that extended period this year...

On some Great Adventure sites, I have heard that they are speculated to be replaced with air time hills though I don't know how true that is.

They are probably just removing the zero-gs because didn't many trains valley in them leaving passengers upside down?

Nope...Trains never valleyed in the rolls. You can't really valley in the top of a zero-g. They did valley between the zero-g and the cobra though on a few occasions.

... just like you can't stop at the top of Dragster? I'm sure it very rarely happens, but given the right conditions, a train could come to a rest partially upside down.

I think a double up/down would be much cooler than a zero-G roll, but this is coming from a guy who thinks the zero-G roll is the worst thing to happen to roller coasters since the corkscrew.

^^ It valleys between the roll and the spike. When that happens, part of the train is sideways or inverted. What they do to unload is push it back into the low valley.

When the power goes out and the booster lims don't work, I heard it valleys in the roll, leaving riders upside down. This is why I heard they are replacing the rolls with straight track.
