The real "What is Holiday World up to?" thread

If you want to be technical, wasn't EPCOT the first with their Ice Station Cool Exhibit sponsored by Coke?

I thought Kiddieland in Melrose Park, Illinois was the first park to feature free drinks?

Anyway.. I have yet to visit Holiday World, my first visit will actually be June 5th of this year, and we're already planning the trip for '06.. (probably to include Beech Bend [with their new GCI woodie] and maybe another park or 2) can't wait.. whatever it will be.

OK soda fans, what WAS the name of that Italian aperitif featured at the EPCOT drink station? You could give a *lifetime supply* of that stuff away (in a 4 oz. cup) ;)

How can a park patent giving away free soda? I thought Patents were granted for inventions and ideas leading to inventions/the like, not for giving free stuff away. Paula, just curious, can you 'splain it to me?:)

edit: Beverly *is* the only thing I've ever drank that made Moxie seem like a "pretty good choice"...you could have both of those in unlimited quantities without EVER having to change the canisters...;)

TeknoScorpion, they did not really patent the free drinks so much as they copyrighted their slogan for it. I just thought it was funny that they would do that, and I guess I was right cause I think it only lasted about a year or so. You can look it up on the patent and copyrights website...but that site is nearly impossible to link to.

I think I tried Beverly when I was in Atlanta at the World of Coke. They had a room with soda dispensers of all different coke products and I think I remember trying it and almost puking.

You can't copyright a slogan. Trademark it, maybe, but not copyright it.

Beverly is so "popular" that there is usually a thread every week on it in most Disney forums. If it's so universally despised, I'm not sure why they keep offering it...

Match the piece of steel on the frame and what do you get? Tinkertoys? Those look awfully familiar.

Just trying to get back on topic since we have found so many ways to steer off it.

There is no match for what is in the barrels to steel supports for a woodie in the many pics I have looked at. But I did find a match for it in the second pic on this page. Look at the upper right hand corner of that pic and you will see a small bent with just one bolt hole on one side only. That is because where it is used, on the other side of the bent the bolt would go thru another bolt in the wood going perpendicular to it. I am pretty sure those bents are meant to brace wood, not steel supports.

The steel in the drum is most certainly not tomato paste. Come on... it's obvious that those are components of a steel-framed wood coaster. Why would you even doubt that at this point? The above photo evidence is pretty conclusive to me. What else is going to start arriving today for something that opens a year from now?

Now the question is... what will it do? If they can get it to cross time zones, it could be the world's longest coaster and only time bending coaster, taking an hour to complete the first half of the course, then a negative hour for the second half. That would be sweet.

Jeff, I don't know but I think wood support woodies have a piece of metal now days on the riser comming from the footer.

Compared to some older woodies that have shifted like Skyliner who has some bents not even on a footer. I'd say thats a good idea.

Doubting? Who said anything about doubting, when I splattered the sarcastic Tinkertoy expletive? The world's longest coaster would become a physics overnight phenom if it traveled a Standard Time Zone. After viewing photos of Hades and the rumors of HW talking with GG, I can see this project may become an epic event in Santa Claus.
