The real "What is Holiday World up to?" thread

Good call there Cory. I can't see that first HW pic too well, but I would guess you are right about that. I think I figured out the other two and I only see those bents on woodies made of wood. Besides, if you see the bents on woodies, and the ride is at HW, do you really think they would build with steel supports at that park? ;)

Besides, the new clue is this is Mrs. Koch's wish. I am pretty sure Mrs. Xmas Tree does not want a steel support woodie. ;)

That is pretty convincing Cory. It looks like there might be just enough of the angle iron to go around the ride.

It seems like their would be a larger steel shipment if the entire frame was steel.

FYI, Holiday World had to add over 40 additional bents and many other structural details to the Raven this year when they updated the ride to two trains. Some of that stuff your looking at could also be leftover inventory and such from that process. But...my better judgement tells me otherwise!!!

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

While Im not convinced another coaster is going in HW. Cory and RTTD bring up good points on the crossbeem bracing.

If you look at Viper at SFGAm you will see each and every cross support entrenched in a steel under support.

Honestly I got off Viper saying, "How in the heck can they do that with wood?" it was so smooth and so quiet, I could actually hear the wheels whirring on the rails in the backseat.

Chuck, who honestly does thing Wooden supported wood coasters have less track wear due to built in flexibility.

Honestly I would be let down and surprised if HW went with a steel supported woodie instead of all wood. The steel frame never feels as good to me. Wood just has that extra "cushion" and "give" that the steel framed woodies I've ridden don't have.

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
Okay, I forget what time it is in HW right now (or I am just confused about it) but it is either the 5th now there, or it soon will be. So...today is the day that they decide when they will announce that Jeff has to take away my c-buzz ads for free :) errr something like that.
I havn't ridden enough steel frame coasters to tell for sure thrillerman, but I do know that Cornball is a smooth wooden coaster. Much smoother than many wood framed coasters that I've experienced. The Hurricane isn't bad either, but they do seem to retrack often at the turn around.

Here's a novel idea: it could be both. Part steel for a smaller footprint in wooded areas, and wood elsewhere. I don't think anyone's done that before, and it may be completely ridiculous from a structural engineering standpoint for all I know... but it would definitely be unique...

This is all assuming it's even a wooden coaster at all. The parts we've seen so far could be for the station or something.

(But that's just playing devil's advocate -- my guess is it's a TGG woodie. It's cool if I'm wrong though)

After reading Wednesday's blog entry they now have a real Christmas Tree in the Christmas section of the park. WOOHOO! It is just so neat to see the photos of them decorating the tree.

But the real Christmas present will be coming in 2006 (as we all knew already) but it is confirmed that it was Pat's wish. Hmm....now what is that Pat wished for.....

Birthday present is what came to my mind. I still can't come to terms with a Birthday section though.

Resisting punfest.....resistance....Resistance is futile!

Birthday section?

That would just be icing on the cake...:)

Sorry Jeff...

bit0mike, I was thinking that going thru the wooded areas that wooden supports could mean having to tear out a LOT of trees...I like your thinking on this! :)

That photo under "Woodn't you like to know" looked like a lot of trees to me. As for mixed supports in the past, Zeus come to mind. It has a steel support lift and then the rest is wood. I bet that the higher parts of the ride (assuming this is a woodie ;) ) will be outside the woods and it will go lower in the woods to take advantage of being in the trees. The lower track will not have a super wide footprint.

Is there no one near HW that can swing by the employee parking lot and get some better shots? Or did Paula ask you not to? ;)

Oh yeah, now I am sure it is the 5th in HW. Today they decide just how long Paula's fun will last. :)

If memory serves me well, Mrs. Koch has been wishing for something specific for years... If it is what I think it is, then I'll be jumping for joy myself.

Alas, I could be waaaaaaay off base in my suspicion.

I think Paula is being very smart and sneaky in the blogs and hints being dropped. Remember, Holiday World is not limited to doing just ONE thing each for a given season. Recently, the track record has shown that the park likes to do several things.

I think it would behoove us to use the thought process that the clues may be a conglomeration of things, not specific hints at one particular change or addition.

I am actually surprised that there has seemingly been more focus on the little bit of metal that has arrived, rather than on the large crated/boxed item pictured in the blog.

None-the-less... it's anyone's guess at this time. It sure is fun to speculate... kind of like rattling the wrapped gifts under the tree 2 weeks prior to Christmas!

Well If memory serves. The Wish was a Dark Ride of some type. I could be totally wrong but remember seeing or hearing that somewhere.

Paula isn't being smart or sneaky, She enjoys her torcher of us. it's sort of a payback in a way, Along with Marketing skills and keeping interest alive and flourishing.

She has a knack for it that few can aproach.

I admire that

Are you talking about the jungle racer mats?

Torture?

Me?!

Well! I never! (Just ask my three brothers. On second thought, maybe not. Never mind.)

My smart/sneaky/torture days will end on June 16.

No, I'm not resigning. It's the day we'll announce our 2006 expansion.

Can you last that long?

It's the day we'll announce our 2006 expansion.

Should I be noting that the word "expansion" was used rather than "attraction" or "addition"?

Or is it just a matter of verbiage?

No...I dont think I can hold my breath that long. ;) If you are announcing that early it must be big.....REALLY REALLY BIG! Whatever it turns out to be I know I will be ecstatic.

I also realized that it will be the 60th season for Holiday World....hmmm.......

Can we say Big Birthday Party....land. LOL! j/k.
