I can't pretend to say I'm a huge fan, but I'll give you my thoughts anyhow, since you can't live without them:
With David Lee, the band truly was classic rock. Sex, drinking, rock n roll. And The Cradle Will Rock, Hot For Teacher, Ain't Talkin' About Love. It may not be my favorite music, but I can respect how great it is to those who do love it.
Sammy Hagar jumps aboard, all of a sudden it's Why Can't This Be Love, C'mon Baby Finish What You Started, Love Walks In. No comparison. Richard friggin' Marx writes less sappy songs than this guy. They went from real rock to light rock. Blech.
(Remeber when Ian McCulloch left Echo & The Bunnymen and then they released a record without him? That sucked, too. Sorry -- just had to bring it back to new wave. :) )
Hi
I loved that song as well. I thought the extended version that was being played on the radio was better than the video version.
I swear to you, when I first heard that song, I thought for sure they were saying, "wiga nuns. wiga nuns."

"Eruption" is still sends chills down my spine though.....:-D Talk about the ultimate "air guitar"!
I just heard "The Safety Dance" earlier today. :-D
Rob,
I remember Taco......whatever happened to Oingo Boingo? Bananarama? Falco? The Hooters? Talk Talk?
Speaking of Talk Talk, NO Doubt did an AWESOME cover of "It's My Life". :-D

So love is a bad thing? How did you forget about these Roth era tracks:
Ain't Talkin' Bout Love
You Really Got Me
Jamie's Cryin'
Feel Your Love Tonight
Little Dreamer
Ice Cream Man
Dance The Night Away
Outta Love Again
Spanish Fly
Women In Love...
Beautiful Girls
So This Is Love?
(Oh) Pretty Woman
Dancing In The Street
Hot For Teacher
Plus the little wierd ditties like Could This Be Magic, In A Simple Rhyme, Catheral, Big Bad Bill Is Sweet William Now (is that New Orleans style jazz?), Happy Trails, etc.
Link:
and given the fact that I'm not a huge Hagar fan, I have to give the guy credit. His songwriting skills are stronger than Roth's and gave Van Halen the ability to write a wider variety of songs that have now become classics.
Hey! It's the Safety Dance. ... and there you go. They added the "S....A....F....E....T....Y.... safety dance" part after the fact.
True Story.
The Flying Turns makes all the right people wet - Gonch
I have a better one.......remember Sly Foxx?

While we're at it, any Lene Lovich fans out there? I was so jazzed to see Target use "New Toy" in their Christmas commercials last year. Man, I wish she would release another CD. Kate Bush and Nina Hagen, too.
OK...without going to a search engine can anyone name the "hits" by these bands:
--Barbie & The Kens
--Killer Pussy
--Suburban Lawns
mOOSH [who promoted the last few albums by two great 80's artists: Oingo Boing and Thomas Dolby!]
