SFGAdv Invitation Scan, DEFINITELY WORLD RECORD

Tekno, it's obvious what he's looking for in a coaster and why he doesn't find TTD to be that impressive of a coaster. Notice he mentioned "punch" of a coaster, and that nothing tops X. Apparently, he only feels a coaster is good if you feel like you've been punched in both sides of your head before getting off. Since TTD doesn't have over-the-shoulders, that's impossible, so obviously it's nothing more than a Cedar Fair plot to make him look like a fool because he likes Six Flags. Geez, $25 mill just to make longhairedspaz look like an idiot - who knew it was that important to Cedar Fair?

And of course, Cedar Fair's highly overrated rocket will soon be pathetic compared to the deservingly rated rocket at Six Flags which is an almost exact clone. Makes sense to me.

Aint troll-hunting fun?

I think SF will do a pretty decent job running the ride the first year or two. They won't be like CP and do whatever it takes to get a major problem fixed the same day and hold it open late for the sake of good customer service, but I doubt it will just sit there not worked on for weeks on end. The proof of the pudding will be in a couple years when things go wrong. Then when it ain't new anymore we may have another S:TE (i.e. "when we feel like getting around to it") issue on our hands again.

Aside from the location of the ride, I think it is great for the industry that we are getting another strata or higher coaster. TTD is not just by itself anymore and eventually we may see more and more rides that tall and taller. This is probably the beginning of a shift in thinking about not only what is the bar as far as height of a coaster, but also cost. There was a time when 200 feet was thought to be absurd, now they are everywhere. Hopefully, we will see 300 and 400 foot rides start to spring up everywhere too.

Exact clone is a little off the mark unless you consider Wicked Twister and Steel Venom to be exact clones... They're probably a bit more similar than TTD and GAdv's new coaster though. Whee, another case of Cedar Point copying off Six Flags... And it was the park down the street this time. ;)

RavenTTD, I hope that isnt the case. I personally dont want a bunch of 400ft coasters that simply launch, go up and come down just so they can say they are the tallest.

Meh, I'd rather a more original record-breaking coaster. I'd be incredibly disappointed if it was just "we have the tallest rocket coaster" "no we have the tallest rocket coaster!" "but ours is faster!" It's just gonna be a rocket-coaster pissing contest. I wanna see some actually decent rides, I wanna see something after the 450 foot drop, otherwise these rides will lose their novelty before the ride goes around the track once. I'm not that excited about this ride, besides the fact that it's close to me, I'm highly disappointed.

How many parks do you really think can afford adding a 400 ft. coaster? Let me know when "a bunch of 400 ft coasters" are being built at all the parks around you, so I can call you lucky and call most of the parks insane.

Why are you disappointed about a coaster that hasn't been announced yet?! You know nothing about it except that it's going to be the tallest and fastest coaster in the world, an Intamin Rocket coaster, it will probably have a jungle theme, and it goes "up and down" something similar to Dragster, Xcelerator, and Storm Runner... *All* of the other Rocket Coasters that already exist. I don't remember anyone complaining when Kentucky Kingdom built Chang two years after Cedar Point built Mantis. What's the deal here? It's just another type of coaster going for a record. It's not just "Dragster with a bigger erection".

Uh, I think it's pretty obvious it's not going to be anything other than a near Dragster clone. If it's going to be higher than Dragster do "more" than what Dragster does such as what Xcelerator and Storm Runner do, then the price would be astronomical. We're probably already looking at least at $25 million+ investment here with just L-TH-B.

As far as Chang and Mantis are concerned, Chang is not an exact clone. It has an extra inversion and the layout is a little bit different.

When Vekoma starts building them, that's when. Plus, they'll all have OTSR.

Dude, that would be so wicked if it was 520ft! haha now back to reality, I totaly agree with Danny+ because people are complaining about something that isn't a fact yet. I'm very excited about ¿Maxxxxx? and disappointed at the same time because we could maybe get 2 great coaster for the price of this one. BUT, we're getting a coaster, right?!? And not just a coaster but a WORLD RECORD BREAKING, FAST AS HELL, MONSTER of a coaster! I think we should all be happy that we didn't get a Dried out Deja Vu or another Batman themed coaster. \

We're GETTING A ROCKET COASTER PEOPLE! ROCKET COASTER!!!!!

Look, roosel, there are far too many people participating in this thread that know more about the stats than you. Infact, I'd "bank" on the fact that certain people who barely participate in new coater threads because they are "in the know", and know every single thing about the coaster, know more about it than me, you, or anybody else on this site (Well, almost anybody else on this site, right Danny?;).

If you still want to place that bet, I'll take you up on that...

Well, more importantly than who's "in-the-know" and how similar it is to Dragster is how many people all along the east coast will get a chance to ride a coaster much faster and much taller than anything in the US outside of Ohio and California. I'm sure not every enthusiast gets the chance to get to Cedar Point yearly, bi-yearly, or even once a decade, let alone all the GP on the east coast, so there's a lot more going for it than "this is a dumb idea because Cedar Point already has a giant dildo coaster".

It's so close to one of the largest media locations in the world, so it will get a lot of press covering it. I don't think the press or people who live in Philly, NYC, D.C., or Jersey will be complaining that "This is so much like the last record-holder in Ohio. This is old news."

*But* if you just want to see or make up negative things about this ride for any number of reasons, that's fine with me. It's another reason for me to go to Great Adventure and the east coast, another reason to get people out of the SUF/Nitro/Medusa/Chiller lines, another place to ride one of the craziest and most thrilling ride experiences I've had, and another way to have fun. And it's not even a TTD (near)clone... But again, I don't consider Chang a near-clone of Mantis or Wicked Twister a near-clone of Steel Venom either. :)

+Danny
Fyi: "right Danny?" in Clint's post doesn't refer to me knowing a lot about it, just that we know people reading this thread that *know* ;) *** Edited 9/26/2004 11:58:45 PM UTC by +Danny***

Just an observation...

When I was at CP over Labor Day weekend, my sig. other thought that Dragster looked rather...er...phallic. So could we just say that this is a fight between the parks to see who has the biggest...er...phallic symbol?

Maybe it's just a pissing contest?

It's not the quality of the ride that matters, it's the size of your tophat?

If they want to see who has already one the "pissing contest" they need look no further then their bank statements. Maybe Six Flag's is trying to overcompensate for other shortcomings in that area. Only problem is, this ride could make that problem far worse if it doesn't work right! The term "White Elephant" comes to mind. I just don't trust Six Flag's to keep this ride going. I think they have bit off more then they can chew.
