SFGAdv Invitation Scan, DEFINITELY WORLD RECORD

Tekno, do you work for the park or something? Is this knowledge-based or just a guess?

Probebly not considering it's not right.

The only thing that doesn't click for me on that; 20 mph = 20 more ft. (TTD to Happy Fun Maxx Stealth Superman Ultimate Batman Escape Shock Power Steel Ride of Wood) while 40 mph = 220 more ft. (Xcel to TTD). Anyone explain? Maybe I'm just having an "off" physics day ...

The higher you go the more you have to battle. Air resistance and friction are going to play a huge role in this.

If you figure the force required to send trains up 450 ft. (F=ma) then you are right... it shouldn't take that much more. However, when you factor in the force of friction along with the friction of air, the force needed to propel the train upwards an extra 30ft. is much more.

|Ff| = uk(N)

I forget how to implement the force of friction into the main force equation. I think that you add it but I'm not sure. Once again, air resistance must be factored in also but like I said, I don't remember how to apply it.

There was a time when 200 feet was thought to be absurd, now they are everywhere. Hopefully, we will see 300 and 400 foot rides start to spring up everywhere too.

I see a big problem with coasters of this size. It costs so much to get the thing up high that there's very little else you can do without sending the cost into the INSANE amount. Look at TTD. All it does is go up and down, yet it cost $25M. Even if the cost wasn't as much of a factor, there's no way you'll be able to use all that energy from heights like that. Even Nitro can't make use of all its energy. It uses brakes in 2 separate spots. With 300 and 400 foot coaster, it ends up being a waste since you'll end up having a fairly short layout and LOTS or braking. Does anybody know if the coasters try to use the heat energy from the brakes for anything ?

Tekno,

Hopefully your sig has nothing to do with SFGAds stats on the new rocket because both numbers are wrong. :P

OMG I have a new sig!!!
Not to mention an extreme lack in creativity. ;)

"Yea, because you know the average guest at Cedar Point knows there's a bigger and faster one only 11 hours away. They'll never ride Dragster again just because it's fun! Come on, people queue up to ride what they like, 95% of the people that ride Dragster won't even have a clue that theye is a bigger one out there, let alone care."

That was not what I meant. I was referring to Intamin rockets in general. TTD is popular mainly b/c of its insane height and speed. If CP wants to modify their record and build a taller and faster ride fewer people will see much fun in TTD. Unlike MF and Magmun that are a great ride weather their the tallest and fastest in the park or not. Simply put Intamin rockets like TTD will lose their appeal if their home parks go for something even bigger more than a ride like Magnum of MF. *** Edited 9/27/2004 7:40:56 PM UTC by GIGAFORCE01***

-Eric: Major Parks: SFNE(homepark), SFA,SFGADV,CP,BGE,BGA,Kennywood, and Sea World: Track record 65 different coasters ridden #1 is Millennium Force #2 is El Toro and than there are all the others

Wicked Twister holds its own as many people's favorite in the park, and it's smaller than all three you mentioned (it hasn't run to 200' since opening day - I will claim that no matter what anyone says ... )

The rockets will keep their appeal for a while. They're still amazing rides, I just don't think they're coasters per-se - more like drop rides on crack.

For those of you playing the physics game,

gh=0.5(v^2)

In other words, energy increases as the square of velocity, but linearly with height. i.e. A doubling of speed makes 4x more height. That's why the 40 MPH difference between Xcel. and TTD makes so much more diff than the alleged 20 MPH diff between TTD and GAdv's coaster.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I think this ride will suck. Since we know the track length is shorter they are goong to have to cut back on the station, and the capacity is going to suck. Ok, say they don't cut back on the station and make quicker launch. Then cables are going to be broken left and right. Plus it took a year to build TTD and they have barely broken ground.

There is no rush like Top Thrill Dragster!

A. Stop being a ridiculous fanboy.

B. How many times does it need to be said that the rides original length given at the meeting is *not* accurate?

How many times did I convince people TTD's top 200' were going byebye? There's your answer ;)
Well, anyone wondering what Cedar Point will be putting up in 2005....well I actually can't wait to see what they put in for 2006 or 2007 because I'm willing to bet it will break a record. Just, because that's what Cedar Point does. :)

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

It isn't the same picture as TTD, the Track is different, and the supports are way different.

Wow, actually, you're all wrong about "Clint's Code". It has nothing to do with coasters. How many sigs have I had coaster related?:).

Stop reading into things that aren't there, guys.:) The announcement is in like, a day, like I told Becca, be patient, but at this point, I think everything is right there infront of your faces:).

Oh, and Joe, never stick your toungue out @ people. Unless you're intent on using it. ;)

Oh, and about the sig, go read Ring and then Spiral(which I just finished the other nite). Good books. But nothing about those numbers is backwards:).

Sadako is coming.

It starts again.
