Hades @ Big Chiefs

I was just on rcdb when I read the new for '05 coasters, when I looked at Hades. It says it will be the biggest coaster in the midwest, which would mean it would have to be bigger than TTD. Even it meant biggest woodie in the midwest, it would have to beat out SOB. What are they thinking?

They're thinking that nobody who lives in Wisconsin or Illinois or Minnesota cares about a roller coaster in southern Ohio, and "largest wooden coaster in the midwest" is a hell of a good marketing pitch.

Who really cares? All I care about is that it's a good ride and pics I've seen from friends show some very steep drops.

It is Wood on steel and has several tunnels including to the lifthill

Regardless of exactly what this coaster is and will do, it definitely has my curiosity and attention. As does Avalanche. Just waiting to go up to the Dells for Avalanche to open.

Kris, my guess is that the people who market for Big Chiefs are the same folks who market for Vekoma and say that there's 8 inversions on the Dutchmans. ;)

Must not know how close the P. T. Barnum museum is to the park.

FYI, Mt Olympus is touting Hades as "one of the largest roller coasters in the midwest, boasting to be the longest underground roller coaster in the world."

The rhetoric has diminished a bit.

Does anyone have links to new pics of this ride or Avalanche? I know there were some older ones about a month ago.

Nate's diagram is as of May 15th. It's the 27th, a lot can happen in 10 days. Plus, I've heard an opening date of June 10th.

I heard something like that for Tsunami, too. I'm not trying to be a "glass half empty" kinda guy, I'm just saying... ;)

I may head up there this weekend if I can find the time, so we'll know more then. A lot certainly can happen in ten days (between Easter weekend and May 15, the first drop and bunny hops by the road went up) but I still wouldn't hold much hope for June 10th. We'll see...
