Hades @ Big Chiefs

This is encouraging to hear that they are correct 99% of the time. Finally at least I can have some hope! I think it is because I haven't heard as much talk lately like with the BGT dive machine for example that would make me worry especially sine the woodie was removed from the Roller Coaster Database. Everyone seems to talk about the dive machine and not the S&S woodie or at least lately. But then if people sees some footers @ CG for something like a large woodie maybe we'd hear much more talk about it. There is a thread on CG on Westcoaster and a few people are skeptical about CG surviving because B&B (Formerly Circus World) failed. Kent seems to have some good ideas but I hope Orlando can support CG. If CG was in Miami I would think that more people would have faith in the project because of the lack of any major park in Miami unlike Orlando.

IF Cypress Gardens gets the second S&S woodie it will be bigger than the Jr Woodie that opens later this year, but it will NOT be big in the manner in which you are thinking. Expect to see something about the size of Cheetah, maybe a bit smaller.
Isn't it ironic Cheeta doesn't go as fast as a cheeta?
I'm not really expecting anything really big but something Like Avalanche with a very steep first drop would really be great for the park!! Not expecting a 120-150+ woodie but something like 85'-95' would seemed likely. If it has steep sharp drops including the first drop and a bunch of airtime hills like Avalanche with a 24 pass train a HUGE smile would be on my face. I want a kick ass first drop and the two S&S woodies this year looks promising with those type of drops and both are in the size range of Cheetah. I hope the park suceeds! I doesn't need to be very large just very thrilling! :-)
I know this thread was about Hades, but since we are talking about other new woodies, and since I don't want to start a new thread for it..

Did anyone take a look at this pic of Avalanche:

That looks like one heck of a banked turn. It reminds me of the shots of Thunderhead where the hand rail becomes a head chopper.

That does look good!! :-)

Rob - I love you!

Right back at ya! ;)

While I don't have the sources that Moosh had (I am constantly green with envy), I do have reason to believe that the larger CG wood coaster may not be new at all. It could very well already be somewhere else within the state.

About the comment about CG following in the footsteps of B&B, I'm not so sure I agree with that. The Orlando market has evolved a lot since the days of B&B and I think the market is ripe for a smaller, traditional-style theme park. From what I understand, B&B tried to chase after the Disney crowds. By going after a different crowd (or the same crowd with a different experience to offer), I think that CG could be very successful. Kent knows how to provide this kind of entertainment and I'm sure he has a plan to survive.

Back to Hades. My friend Pinball Lord & I were there today and here is what we found out. The structure is indeed the turnaround. You can tell by looking at the footers and by the banking on both sides of the hill now. Also we talked to Nick Lasaski (sp?) the owner as we were leaving the park and he did confirmed that it is the turnaround and also told us it is 90 feet tall! A VERY TALL turnaround for a woodie so you can tell that the claims for largest woodie in the midwist IS true! Nick also told us that the trains will be PTCs. Also a construction worker told us that Hades will start all the way behind the castle so yes this will be on HUGE ride!!! I hope the first drop will be beyond 70 degrees! I think it will be possible. I was asking a GG designer over the phone recently if he would be a 70 degree drop if requested or if it would be possible and I think he said yes and that they would like to keep trying new things if they think it will work! :-)

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!
Uh, don't get your hopes up.

You know, I was looking at a pic of Villain over at rcdb of the turn/helix and it reminded me of the pic of Hades. At first I thought that this was the first drop but I guess it could be the turnaround. That could explain the "dominate the skyline" claim and also explain why this drop is not that steep. I guess that would also explain why they started so early...aside from not wanting to dig in the winter. It's kinda like the TTD mystery all over again.

This is an insanely exciting thread. This is the first time I've gotten looks at construction pictures of either of these rides, and from the early looks, both have the ability to easily be some of the best ever built. Avalanche is going to be an airtime machine.

UPDATE - color me wrong...that's the second drop. Happy now, PinkFloydFanatic?

Hey Moosh, how did ya figure that out? First Drop again?

Looks like this could be a pretty insane ride. That one drop looks like it has the potential to be a lot of fun.

Their are some great pictures of Avalanche taken by rcdb's dream child Duane Marden

The ride look awesome it's just too bad they are only running a train with 3, 2-bench cars. Nice banking at the bottom of the 1st drop.

No, beast7369. That info was revealed in a discussion on another forum. Heck, I'm glad I was wrong ;)
Hades looks to be one massive ride. It looks like they have completely paved the parking lot where the construction was. I won't be up in the dells for another month, but I will be sure to take pictures.

Hades will be a massive ride. The biggest coaster in the midwest. Or at least on that side of the highway ;)

I found the post there that said it was the second drop, and it also said that the second drop followed the turnaround and that the tunnel was wide enough for 2-way traffic. Does that mean the first drop is going to be on the other side of the tunnel and you are going to go thru the tunnel and up into what we are seeing? That does not sound right to me, but it would be cool.
