Givens:
CP has footers
CP has steel
CP's winters are nasty for high steel work
(I cringe every time I look at the pictures
of MF being topped out in winter)
This is likely a prototype that will need
lots of start up time.
CP's financial year has been good enough that the
market isn't going to cringe at some 4th quarter
capital spending.

With these givens, CP would be crazy not to start vertical construction.

This just in: It's not fake. I was informed that steel erection has commenced. The plan was to install tower sections this week in area 51... and by looking at these photos, it's obvious that Cedar Point has done that. Now the real question, is how were the photos taken (How did they gain access to perimeter road)?

Not going to argue if the pictures are fake, but one of the pictures not in question shows a dismantled Chaos and another has some ride cars and what looks to be a Cedar Creek Mine train.

Does anyone know why a mine train is there? I assume they are storing a not needed train but I am sure someone knows for sure.

Waiting for the CP announcement to be made so that about 1000+ posts will be made complaining about it.

Matt, I thought the Mine Ride had 4 or 5 trains, more than they usually run nowadays. Perhaps they are getting a jump start on some winter work. Perhaps they will have other things to do later in the winter... :)

Duh. The crane IS taller than Millenium Force in this pic. Hmmm... maybe it's because MF is way in the background.

C'mon people. It's a crane and the supports for the new coaster. Nothing in that pics is over 1000 ft.

I just checked the live park cam and it doesnt look like there is a crane. But I'm not sure if you can see area 51.

Whoops. Did I say CP hasn't started before an announcement? I mean to say that this isn't the first time CP has started before an announcement. That's what I get for trying to get a post off right before I leave work for the week. :)

Anywho, more examples. Ground clearing for MF started in the '98-'99 offseason when the CP & LE was rerouted a bit, as well as when some of the clearing began. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Mean Streak clearing started before an announcement as well. Basically, any large project needs some sort of a head start.

I think the photos look fake... the trees right in front of the supports on the first one look too dark compared to the rest of the trees around them. Also in the second photo, it looks like there's a tree right in the middle of the magnum track. Maybe I'm wrong... this p.o.s. 14" monitor isn't the best for viewing pictures!

I'm going to the park tommorrow, and I can find out if it's true or not.

rollercoasterfan, Trees that are different colors? OMG! Who's ever seen something like that before? ;-) That's crazy. Of course trees are different colors. Look outside. And the tree that you claim is in the middle of Magnum track is in front of it. Like everyone else said. It's not so unbelieveable that they've started vertical construction.
