Well the topic hasn't been closed/deleted, take that for what it's worth.
Yes I jump on the Rocket Coaster idea, but I'm skeptical about vertical construction already. Perhaps its just the notion in my head that an announcement should be made first before vertical construction.

I have to chime in with a "it looks legit enough".
Just wanted to mention to all the people who think something like this in Photoshop would be very difficult to do - it's not. A fake like this could be tossed together rather easily.

Dorney Park visits in 2002: 17
I'm still trying to figure out where this picture is supposed to be taken from. Something about it strikes me as being off. The supports seem wrong, but the picture is so degraded by jpeg artifacts that it hides potential flaws. You could gaussian noise it and then blur to erase some of your pasting flaws.

If anyone goes to the park tomorrow can they take pics of the crane and try to figuire out how tall it is? This might be our first proof as of how high we will go in '03.
The picture does look real as the crane looks real too.

I don't know why, but as soon as i saw this pic i thought of X. The color of the supports is the same as well as the shape. Maybe a pasting of some old construction pics?

Is it a dream or a memory? It's both, it's X
Pictures of footers for the new Cedar Point ride have been online for a long time.

I think it looks real, but at this stage it doesn't really matter. If it's fake, kudos to the skilled Photoshop master!
And I'm convinced of a few things...
In another thread, Jeff said:
You haven't seen anything published by CP that makes a false claim because they're too careful about that (though the whole S:TE thing I suppose is open to some debate, for a few more months anyway).
Personally it seems to be a UK phenomenon. What's that Vekoma giant SLC that said it cost some ridiculous amount? Then there's the PepsiMax claim, etc.
We have "journalists" here in the US constantly looking for conspiracy, so the problem isn't as rampant here.

Personally, I love the KMFDM Quote... but that's not important right now.
:-)
I also love the obvious hint that this thing will reach heights that will make the S:TE debate null and void. I'll refrain from making any actual assumptions about how many feet tall... how many miles per hour... etc. I think Jeff's comments say it all.
Footers were in place a long time now.
Huge yellow supports were on site also
CF announced construction to start after Labour Day
It takes about seven months to construct a huge coaster
Do the math, the pic is real. The truth is out there, just look at it! :)

I think the fact that this post is still here speaks volumes.
No it doesn't. It just says that my ass was at a show (of a certain artist that was frequently spotted at CP in '99) and doesn't sit here 24/7.
But what's so hard about believing it's real? Those footers have been there since spring, the parts are there, the clock is ticking. Why not start putting it up now?

Why is the appearance of supports so hard to believe? Area 51 has grown from the site of Dodgem I to almost the entire Gemini Midway in less than a week's time. Jeff's right. The supports is question are on the footers that we CP locals first spotted back on opening day. Why stockpile the parts in the back lot when you can start erecting the ride when the park is closed during the week? I'm not sure when these pics were taken, but I would bet quite a bit that the structure has grown quite a bit since they were taken. Besides, CP hasn't started vertical construction on a ride before it's announcment before. Heck, almost every major addidtion in the last twenty years has probably been this way.
Can't wait until tomorrow to see this structure in person,
