We were a bit disappointed with Mantis on our CP visit this year. I've never had the "male problems" on Mantis that many seem to have, but this year it did seem pretty rough with some serious headbanging going on. (also nice to see some buzzers admit that a B&M can bang)
It's certainly not the same ride I rode in 1996. Heck it's not even the same ride I rode in 97, 98, 99 or 2000. Maybe we rode on a bad day.
I have to agree that the layout would make for a pretty tame floorless, though.

I find it smooth except for the one evil Arrow transition after the corkscrew. Just like any stand up, Stand. Pull your seat all the way to your shoulders while you are standing straight up. Works for me.
On a related note at Coastermania, the op on the back, left side of the train was actually pulling te seats up, so people had no choice but to sit. This happened to Kneemeister and he had to do the whole ride on his tip toes. This guy was holding up every train as it left the station doing this.

First time I rode Mantis, I thought it was a near-perfect stand-up.....last year, I was somewhat disappointed, but still thought it was a good ride (just not worth the wait time of a Raptor or MF.....
This year, I rode during ERT, and this thing has really fallen on hard times IMO...the B&M stand-ups seem to age fast in comparison...to me. But to suggest floorless trains - NOT going to happen, esp. considering there's a really GREAT floorless so close by....
bill, awaiting the barrage from the SF haters....
Well I know you're all disagreeing with him but I've been thinking about this same thing for quite some time. I was thinking maybe a sitdown too, doesn't have to be a floorless but oh well.
Everytime I ride that thing now, I have to act like I'm on my feet and standing straight when they lock me in. But I just let go after they release and so I'm actually pretty much sitting, not standing. Then when we dispatch, what I do is put my feet all the way behind me and theres a little spot where they fit in so you feet don't have to put up with all the strain. That's the way I ride that thing now, but I can't even stand it. I haven't ridden that thing in like 2 or 3 years now because the line is always so long and it's not even really enjoyable. I'll admit it is the best standup I've ridden, but that's only because I've ridden Shockwave and King Cobra as my only other 2. It'll have some competition for me though when I go to Sfmm later this month.
