Please put floorless trains on Mantis Please

Uhhh....it is a size thing with me. I'm 6'2'', 220. Perfect size for a linebacker, but not a backer of the Mantis. I really like this ride, too, but only ride it once when I visit. My knees really feel the G's.....or wait, maybe it's the age of those knees....

Back to the trim, because of incline before the 1st drop, the only other place to put the trim, besides where it's at, is at the bottom of the hill. Even if you cccrrraaawwllled over the top of the hill, you would still reach a faster speed at the bottom....if they must trim it, then that would be the two placements.

The trim brakes are supposedly off now that they are down to a 2-train operation right?

I think a floorless train would be dull on mantis' layout. Because you're standing, your actually moving around a lot more. The bottom of your body is actually closer to the track, the further up you go, the more movement and so your head sways around a lot more than if you were sitting down. Much more exciting imho.

Nope, I was on Mantis on Monday and the trims were most certainly on. Even watching the coaster from the MF queue, you could hear the trims going off as the trains go by.

I went and rode mantis a little under two weeks ago, and to my suprise, I felt immense low abdominal pains. And I mean low. I've ridden it before, and I loved it a lot, but man...I was really puzzled. My friend beside me had no problems, as was evident with the other passengers. I'm relatively young (only 14), and I don't know if it was those positive G's or what, but it was extremely painful, and didn't go away for a about 45 minutes. I felt no discomfort on any other rides.

Was there yesterday and you could hear the trims while waiting for the Wildcat. Just think how slow and boring the Mantis would be after the block break if it were a floorless....

MarimbaGuy 87,

One woodie is a twister style that was meant to be fast and furious, and have some good laterals but it was tamed way too much so it now does not have the laterals it was intended to have.

The other woodie is an out and back airtime machine. They definitely give different rides!

One invert is complete circuit looping machine.

The other invert is an impulse. And it even goes backwards. Trust me they definitely give different rides.

"Why does everybody complain about Mantis being rough? CP wouldn't put floorless trains on Mantis because SFWOA has a floorless.

Right... Just like how Cedar Point will never put in an impulse coaster because SFWOA has an impulse... Think before you speak Rockrc480...

I found Mantis 2 be rough and bang my head when I rode it 2 weeks ago but I didn't get any disconfort in the crotch or legs. Also even though it banged my head it didn't give me a headache or hurt.

They could put the regular Sit-Down, Speed Coaster seats on it (like Raging Bull). The center of gravity would be almost the same as the stand-up trains. Be a lot easier than having to convert the station for the floorless loading. Although I really don't see what the purpose would be, except to make it a different coaster.

I just HAD to resurrect this old thread...

Given the last few horrible rides I have gotten on Mantis, and hearing complaints from many of the riders afterward, the thought of a train switch just doesn't sound that bad to me.

I know it will not happen, it's not cost effective, it doesn't matter to the public, the park would rather put money into other rides, but I would welcome it.

Same with Chang, but not with Riddler, it just seemed better with it's pacing.

Thats just my opinion

Out of all the B&M stand-ups I've ridden, head banging has never been a recurring issue. Stand-ups can be more intense and "out of control" than sit-downs, but that's about it.

Heh, I crossed Mantis off my list of rides I will ride at Cedar Point my last visit. No more rides for me, I got off with red ears and my chest hurt last time.
I've broken two pairs of sunglasses on that ride , so I think there might be some head banging. And I too think that it would be a cool idea to put the floorless trains on, it's just not going to happen. *** Edited 6/27/2005 6:20:20 PM UTC by CoasterJoe.com***

Stand-ups I won't ride unless a friend "needs a credit lap": Mantis, Chang, Iron Wolf, B:TE, Shockwave @ PKD.

Stand-ups I couldn't care less about: Vortices @ PCar, PGA.

Stand-ups I will ride whenever I'm at the parks: PCW's Skyrider (yes, it made the list), Riddler, Scorcher.

One left to ride, and even if it turns out *great*, that's still a less-than-.500 batting average.

Is LaRonde's Intamionovola (Cobra) as bad as B:TE? That thing was completely unrideable....and there's not many steelies I consider THAT bad.

Hehe...I started this rumor in 2000 when I worked on Mantis for Millenium Mania. Shame on me. I just wanted to see how far it would go around if I told a bunch of coaster enthusiasts Mantis was going to get Floorless trains. I didn't see it on Screamscape or Thrillride, but it came up here a few times.

There is a chance that other people came up with it on their own, in all fairness.

Now that time has passed, I don't think changing the trains would help anymore. Mantis's layout has lost it's appeal , to me anyway. It's just not a timeless ride like Magnum, Raptor, or even CCMR, imho.

A Floorless Mantis would not be a good enough ride to be at CP, it would be so lame. Mantis is still a very popular coaster. However, they need to make a longer station, and increase the number of opps. They NEED to run 3 coasters on this train once again. Maybe even adding a dispatch station where the end of the ride brake run is.
Another Coaster Joe?? I guess it's not that original of a name but it's been my nickname for almost 20 years.

Heck, my business cards even have "Coaster Joe" as my name.

Back on topic.....Mantis is a bit rough but those two lateral-air-snap transitions are incredible with the stand-up trains and would dull with a lower passenger CG on the floorless vehicles. The transition right after the inclined loop is flawless and one of the most forceful moments I've found on B&M rides.

It's funny reading about the ops pulling the seats up on Mantis, because I have had problems every time I am there. I am only 5'2" and they are always telling me to stand up straight. I only get to 5'2", I can not be any straighter or taller. I always rode Mantis (when the lines were short enough) in the front (just to avoid potential for banging), and liked it well enough. But last Fall when I last rode it, I would have been happy to ride just having my toes reach the bottom of the train. They made the seat so high for me that I could get my feet anywhere near the floor. And was a truly uncomfortable ride (and I'ma girl, so I feel for you boys). And since then, I have avoided it. I guess it's been 2 trips now where I don't even go near the ride (even if there is NO line).

Yes, I would like it if the ride was a floorless. Will I think that it will ever happen? No way! With the lines still hefty at times, and having Dominator at GL, Mantis will remain as is. And I will continue to remain not on it (so you can be happy that there is one less person in your Mantis line if you still ride it).

BTW, someone mentioned Iron Wolf. I went that ride twice ever, and go to SFGAm at least 20 times a season for the past three years. Rough is a KIND adjective for that ride (and to hear about the branches hitting people now too). No way will I go back on that beast.

Ah, a trip down memory lane (again). ;-) Great (old) thread!

I do not care for standups at all (except Riddler's and maybe Chang and Mantis if I am on percocet or ANY painkillers.) The B&M's aren't usually THAT bad, but the remaining Togo's are absolutely brutal. I hate them. The one at PCW during my last trip about killed me.

On the other hand, I had a pretty decent ride on Mantis the last time I rode it, but I could only take one ride (bad back).

For some reason Riddler's just kicks ass, and has never hurt me in any way. :-P

Why would the trim on the first drop be off just because it's a 2 train operation? It makes no sense, 'cause one doesn't effect the other. It's there to bring the speed of the train down as it heads down the initial drop - it's not there for blocking purposes.
