Please put floorless trains on Mantis Please

Sit Down or Floorless, would be fine with me, I don't like standing up on that ride.
i went on mantis for the first time a couple of weeks ago...being from chicago and having gone on iron wolf many times i found mantis to be very entertaining...probably because i was so used to a very rough ride on iron wolf...so as far as stand-ups go, this is the best that i have been on...
All some people do is whine.

Please never change the Mantis (except for maybe a few more ride without the trims...those are really intense). The only thing I've had a problem with was this year's ride ops. They seem to jam the seat up into my crotch every time to where I am standing on my tip-toes. Other than that, it is one awesome ride in my eyes.

Hey Tyler, CP doesn't have a floorless either. You say they're too much like a sit down? Why does CP have 2 woodies, 2 inverts...

The two inverts are completely different, and so are the two woodies. Mean Streak is a massive double out-and-back all around woodie, Blue Streak is a simple little out and backer.

Considering that my home standup is Iron Wolf, Mantis seems like riding on glass to me. I happen to like Mantis quite a bit. I especially like the hang time you get in the first loop. After getting beat up on Iron Wolf last weekend I am looking forward to my CP trip to ride a real standup.

That's odd...I can't stand Banshee (No Pun Intended at ALL) but I absolutely LOVED Iron Wolf.

Yes, there was headbanging, but it was INSANELY fast for the elements it was taking, and it just kind of..well...worked.

Maybe Cp'ers are just spoiled! I'd kill for a ride like that in my homepark!

CP surely has spoiled me! I can't compare its coasters to PCW's...

You guys think Mantis is rough, try Vortex at Paramounts Great America. You could even tell if it was an Arrow or a B&M. I hate that ride, it's a good thing Riddler's Revenge is close or else I'd want to tear down ever stand up.

This is my favorite stand-up so watchout.

~IMO, Vortex at PGA is the Stand-up Batman.

I think that the Mantis has changed too over the years. It used to be much smoother, now it gives you roller coaster headache. I don't think the complaints posted are whining. I think what has happened over the last decade is that coasters have begun to be much smoother. This makes older rides seem very rough. When you go on something like Millennium Force, 93 mph as smooth as glass, it's a lot more noticable how rough another coaster might be. I rode Mantis a lot, especially in it's first year. It was my favorite top of the lift. I even liked it before the trim on the drop was installed (during the "it broke someone's legs" rumour days). I liked it after the trims were installed too, for the hangtime. But something has changed on it, and it's a headbanger now. I have never been sick on a ride in my life, not even a spin & puke...but last time I rode Mantis in 2000, it made me almost barf. I think they need to redesign the ride after the midcourse. Just like they did at Kennywood to the Steel Phanthom. Those small inversions like corkscrew elements are the culprit if you ask me. They could extend the layout into something more interesting and fun. I miss it, right along with the Mean Streak.

There is no problem with installing Floorless/Sit Down trains on tracks designed for Stand-Ups. However the seats would be raised higher to match the heartlines. Yup as someone said, it would make for a tame F/SD. SUs require tame layouts for obvious reasons. Can you imagine a SU with the same layout as the Medusas, Kumba etc? I sure can! :)

CP is better off building a 12 inversion Floorless. How's that for a WR? Although they don't seem inversion happy to me, plus said concept is kinda old now. Then there is BKF, blah blah.

Remember all the rumours before MF? Some people were sure they would get a Launched Coaster a la the Hulk. Some the above. :) The 3 racing old-style Arrow Shuttle Loops took the cake. Whoever cooked (sorry about the terrible puns :)) up these rumours needs to get a life & no wonder Thrillride! bombed out.

Ok coaster bob what are you thinking!!??!! Replace mantis's trains with those that are floorless. No way would this ever happen. Do you think that they can just call up B&M and order new trains! They would need to close mantis get the new trains test it for a month adjust the brakes and other areas where the forces would differ. The real world is not roller coaster tycoon

Ok I was just at CP both Tuesday and Friday. Mantis is (and yes, I AM a coaster enthusiast despite this) my favorite steel coaster of all time. There has never been a time that this ride does not cease to amaze me. I never understood why no one seems to even consider it a good ride sometimes. I include it in my list of "must-rides" and most of my friends and such are like "oh yea, forgot about that one". The sensation of standing on a roller coaster is amazing - the twists and flips in the track that really snap from one side to the other only make it that much better! (I always stand on my toes and really get thrown from side to side, makes it better in my opinion).

But I have never experienced headbanging on this ride. Maybe on the brake run but this happens on Raptor too and Raptor is as far as I see it, one of the smoothest rides ever. Everyone says MF is so smooth, I think that every ride I took this week practically jarred my guts out on the first at-grade turn (before hill #2). I just have never experienced headbanging on Mantis.

The only complaint I have ever had about this ride is this year's ride-op crew is aboslutely inept. I hope that some read this board because they are the worst ops I have ever seen - at CP, at Kennywood, at SFWoA, at BGW, wherever, they are the worst. They cannot seem to ever get the seats right on the first try (which personally I think is you own fault if you can't get it right, they tell you how like 5 times on the way to the seats) - especially on Row 6. They are always more concered about who is on break next or what they're doing after work than actually running the ride, and of the 4 times I've been to CP this year, twice I've seen a "managerial" type get into the booth, take over the loud microphone and tell the ride-ops that they're capacity sucks, and once I saw three management types in the booth, soon after which the ride shut down for about 30 minutes.

Mantis is a great ride, its a great concept, and could do without the trim on the first hill, but other than a terrible ride-op crew that needs some motivation, and the unexplained dismantling of the 3rd train, there's nothing wrong with it that I can see. I think putting floorless would simply ruin this coaster. Mantis' layout isn't spectacular, it isn't the tallest and it doesn't have the greatest inversions, but for a stand-up ride, it's amazing. Floorless would ruin this ride.

I loved Mantis. I found it very smooth.

Chang banged my head around a little bit also. Nothing too bad though. Seemed like a very similar roughness/smoothness as Mantis.
Matter of fact, my girlfriend and I both thought T2 had less head banging. And w/ a bad neck, she's pretty good at judging this. :)
Mantis is the second best stand-up there is after Riddler's and should not be changed. It also adds to the variety of what they have at CP. Maybe they should just build a NEW floorless instead.

Despite the fact that Mantis can provide a rough ride, it's still a major crowd pleaser at CP, as you can see from the line lengths on a busy day. When I went in 2001, I actually waited longer for Mantis than for MF.

Quit whining and be happy for what you have, my home park is 4 hours away (Carowinds) and I'd trade Vortex for Mantis any day.

Vortex(PGA) isn't that bad if you ride in the front. I think its the second best ride in the park after Top Gun. By the way, Mantis was fine when I rode it last year . I found it to be more exciting then B:KF and Riddler's Revenge.

-----------------
Top 5: 1)MF, 2)Goliath, 3)Magnum XL 200, 4)Medusa(West), 5)Raptor

I guess it's just me being *hardheaded* and all but I never found them to be headbangy. The only problems I've ever had were with the "seat" (and I use the term loosely) When exiting Mantis, Chang, Iron Wolf, Vortex (Carowinds) the melon on my shoulders is never the "head" that needs soothing!

Now if you want to ride a head banger standup, try Batman the Escape @ SGAW and do NOT use Jeff's riding technique. That thing hurt more than Oucher Limits: Flight of Pain!

"To get inside this head of mine, would take a monkey-wrench, and a lot of wine" Res How I Do

Actually floorless trains could make Mantis rougher unless the trains have your head at the same height above the rails.

A better solution might be to modify the OTSRs with pads similar to those on T2 at SFKK.

The Mantis is one of a very very few coasters I will never ride again, ever. It's nothing but high positive G-forces, and it kills my legs, as all the blood pools in my calves. It hurts like hell, it's hell on the crotch area, and the ONLY way I'd ever ride it again is if they replaced the standup cars with floorless sit-down cars with lap bars instead of over-the-shoulder things.

Coasters should have AIR TIME, and a mixture of G-forces.

Mantis is one of the most beautiful looking coasters of all time, but man, I really can't stand riding it. It hurts.
