X Gone at SF Magic Mountain

Sir Willow Said:

Nope, majorly false rumor about an accident. It didn't happen. Sorry. Why on earth someone posted that I don't know, but it's not true. As for X being on the website, it's not featured, but it's definately there. If you go to the rides page for the park and look at it's pull down menu it's listed right there. Not in an obscure hard to find place, just not on the front page.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was not sure as to what was going on. I meant X was like off the front page and stuff. Thanks again Sir Willow!

I am also trying to clear this whole mess up and put pieces together in my head as well. I REALLY hope they fix most to all these problems it is having.

Off to CP in August, first to IB in late June though!! YEA!!!! :-D It will be a good summer!

Everyone here who is claiming that these issues are due to the fact that this ride is a prototype need to understand something. Those problems, the ones that come with a new ride design, have been worked out for the most part and fixed when need be. These are what contributed to X taking as long as it did to open in the first place.

The issues present now are much more serious. When the trains and structure are needing daily repair and welding you have a situation where a poor design and poor engineering are beginning to show their faces. The question is, how much of this is Arrow's fault? I would wager that not much of it is as many credible sources on here have told the story of the serious amounts of pressure Six Flags (and I'm sure Gary Story in particular) put on the company to sign off on the ride and have it built. Arrow did what they could with the timeframe they were given...their only mistake was to succumb to SF's pressure.

Maybe they just................gave up.

If you were a park and you spent well over $15 million on a coaster, would you just give up?

I'm not yet willing to even place a bet on who's to blame for X's problems, but here's a very informative R.R-C post from a very reliable source:

Everyone who has an interest in the status of X should have a look.

Outkast, you were not even close, SFMM has TWENTYFIVE MILLION sunk into X

The ride is (by looks alone) the most imaginative creation since upstops and tubular steel. I wished I would get the chance to ride it during the Con, but we always thought of it as a coaster that puts stresses on train and track unlike anything before....*bummer*.

As far as the RRC post is concerned, anyone who quotes Willy Wonka is more than OK in my book.....

Coasterdummie, not quite. SF has yet to pay Arrow the total cost of X. SF has spent about $15 million total between partial payment to Arrow and VERY high maintanace costs.

Outkast,

I think the site prep and foundations ran about 5 million also, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, did'nt Fred hold the last train "hostage" until SF made a final payment?
Damn this is to unrealy to believe. I guess those two Northeastern 4d's won't be showing up anytime soon. I hope GADV still looks into one and fully pays for the ride on time and makes sure it passes all it's inspections and reports. It REALLY sucks that I didn't get to ride it yet but I wasn't planing on going to SFMM this year anyway.

After All of this!!!! Im going to California this summer Why does this have to happen!!!!!!

I was just thinking the same thing. It couldn't wait til after coastercon to fall apart. I've been waiting almost a year to ride this thing and I'm gonna ride it no matter what. Besides its only my life I'll be risking. (See how dedicated I am to coasters)

This makes me wonder if there will ever be another 4D coaster built. If there is than how are they gonna work on the designs to keep it from having so many problems?

I know *I* certainly don't see or hope that SFMM just "gives up" on X...the design is absolutely revolutionary! The tip of the proverbial iceberg hasn't even been *nicked* yet by the initial Arrow design.

Rest assured that SFMM will get X back up and running and that the other major manufacturers are busy making their own versions of the 4D...the entire concept is nuts and both enthusiasts and GP alike *love* X which is a pretty surefire sign that more of them will go up in the future.

Wow...first Deja Vu, now X. Also, the V2 fiasco. California coaster fans cannot be happy with Six Flags.

I personally am upset but at least I got my rides in on X. But my cousins from New Jersey won't be happy at all when they visit this summer. But at least we still have Knott's Berry Farm which looks like it's going to have a great summer with all the paint touch ups around the park, Perilous Plunge finally open, and of course, Xcelerator.

There will be more 4D's in the future, no worries on that. Look at all the other prototypes that have had problems in the past that are operational now. Just give it time...which is what SF should have done to begin with. Pressuring Arrow in the manner they did was obviously not a smart decision. Hence the breakdowns that have been occuring and now the shutdown. But nooooo....they had to have it NOW. Stinkin Bic Mac society we live in...sheesh. What ever happened to having patience...good things come to those who wait...ring a bell in that head of yours Mr. Story? I'll climb down off of my soapbox now....thank you. :)

36 laps on ST this year
97 total...I'm getting there

Quite honestly, Arrow has been down this road before.... not with Six Flags but with another major park chain.

I don't think it is anyone's fault really. This thing was so revolutionary that it was bound to have some major *bumps*.

Quite frankly, this ranks as one of the top two most revolutionary coasters of modern times. The other... The Bat. Hmmmmmmm........ At least they put the brake fins in the right spot this time.

Revolutioonary..., First was The Arrow mega looper. 7 loops blew people's minds. Then I would have to say the B&M Sitdown. Started the era of smooth coasters with Monsterous inversions that have never been seen before. Then came Batman The Ride from the shadows of Gothem City. Lelgs and feet daggling-oh my! Of course the LIM coaster was revolutionary cause it was instant speed in 3.64sec! Then roller coasters didn't really chagne until,......(Trumpets).......X! X lifted bars that blocked ride designers across the planet. Wow was a downfall this is.

i think SF pressured Arrow too, and Arrow succumbed because they needed more money and fast...

I said it before X was built and I'll say it again. Behold Arrow!
