I admit that I am quite a bit jaded when it comes to any subject involving PKI. I expect you feel the same. Especially when it directly affects the hard work and dedication of those persons we know and admire at PKI.
As far as dissapointment, backlash towards the attraction. Well, that is going to exist no matter what.
When it comes to any park, I tend to lean on the optimistic side. They are the smart ones and know what they want to do with THEIR money. Why if enthusiasts made the call, there would be 50 parks with 6 B&Ms and CCI's only. Ha ha!
On the flip side, I too question some of the basic logic the park uses. For such a huge sum that Tomb Raider is rumored to cost, the park could have easily added a whole slew of flat rides, or even a brand new themed area altogether.
The logic, I believe, lies in marketing. PKI simply cannot get away with adding "an" attraction. The park has set a precident in years past that they have to live up to. It has to be, bigger, badder and more extravagant than ever. That is the basis for 99% of their marketing rollouts.
Why I can remember the day when I wondered "if" a park was getting something. Today, the enthusiast mentality causes many to wonder "what" a part is getting. See the difference? That is a tough standard for any park to meet, PKI included.
Still, I can hardly wait to experience the attraction. My hat is off to PKI once again. As I said before, in a year when most parks are not focusing on any sort of major project, PKI threw caution to the wind and said, lets go crazy!

While it seems certain that the ride is a top spon of sorts, what's to say that it's not the same as the Wipeout flatride at Dreamworld in Australia. The two ride are almost the same on paper, but the Wipeout model has the ability to go on an angle of 45 degrees to the arms on the side of the ride. Check out the dreamworld website at www.dreamworld.com.au and see for yourself.

And you can stick that comment up your turd cutter, thanks. I've said it couldn't only be a ride of this type. There is a lot going on in those buildings throughout the attraction. As mentioned above, to reduce it to just a "flat ride in a box" misses the point.

I beleive and hope that everyone at PKI had the sense not to build something as stupid (I personaly don't like these rides) as top spin for their 30th anniversary. And then trying to make it such a big deal. PKI has always been known to provide the top quality rides on the market and thrill us beyond belief. I'm sure they haven't and will not let us down. Personaly I think whoever drew those, if they aren't official, needs to get a serious, serious punishment. It's just plain right wrong. I hope a lot of you feel the same way. It really makes me sad to see some stoop down to this level.

Of course, if true, that could point to a big coaster in 2003. :)
Always getting ahead of myself.....

Anyway, good for Paramount for trying out the Huss Giant Rides at their parks! I've seen one of their parks is getting the Giant Frisbee. Maybe we'll soon see the other two types of Giant Rides too. I love Huss products. Sure, I wouldn't take one of their rides over a major wood or steel coaster, but it's definitely preferable to w ild mouse, family coaster or log flume!

I'm not counting. I'm dreaming. :)

PKI has done a great job keeping this as quiet as possible. To see their hard work go to waste is sad.

I've posted previously that I'll have no part of a spin-n-puke (outside of an ol' school Scrambler or Tilt-a-whirl). But, I'm still goin to the CoasterBuzz ERT. Some of you people forget that this is supposed to be a hobby! Why all the secrecy? No one's lives are hanging in a balance here!

Two things: a) If you're reading this site, or any other coaster/park fan site, and you think the sites shouldn't post upcoming attraction information before the official announcement, then maybe you should stop reading. b) I don't understand the difference between someone saying what the ride is and someone posting the blueprints. The only people that have anything to feel guilty about are the people who leaked the information in the first place (like that guy who told me about Batwing in October of 2000).

SFA 2002-What are they building?
A. Speculation on message boards is a totally different thing that looking at confidential, unpublished blueprints.
B. That statement is rotorical. How? Lance Hart published the plans on Screamscape to prove the fact that what he had been "leaking" all along was fact. So according to your philosophy, he shoudl feel guilty.
Don't get me wrong, I am not singling you out. I actually am enjoying this topic. Until this afternoon, today was a pretty dull, quiet day ;-) And I absolutely LOOOOVE all the talk / publicity PKI is getting over this.

While you may not like what Tomb Raider has to offer, you can best be sure that the park thought about the choice years in advance. I don't think the choice was stupid in the slightest. As much as we would love to see a coaster be put in a park every year, a park has to try something else in the future.
As for the 30th anniversary, I think you are missing the whole point. First off, this won't be just a ordinary Top Spin enclosed. There is much more to the attraction than just the ride. This will be a world's first. If that means a new version of a Top Spin that no one has seen before, than it is indeed a world's first IMO. Second of all, making a big deal out of this ride is........well a big deal. The park hasn't ever tried anything this elaborate before, therefore, it is indeed a big deal. In my opinion, the ride will certainly be top notch, and a thrill like we have not experianced before......of course, I have to ride it first to understand what it will be like......but you get my point.
There have been MANY clues throught the last year that have pointed to what the ride actually is. Heck, even a trade magazine for the industry printed info about the ride a couple of months ago. Just remember this, this attraction is going to be about fun. If you don't think it sounds fun, then I am sure there are many other attractions inside the park that would suit anyone's fun level. Personally, I can't wait to give this attraction a try. I am looking at the ride for what it is......instead of for what it isn't.

I vaguely remember it...:)
Seriously though, I think that it's sad that enthusiasts have come to expect more and more from parks...they can only try to "one-up" themselves so many times.
When enthusiasts start bickering and saying stuff detrimental towards a park for not installing what they think they have should installed is when I take shame in calling myself enthusiasts.
I have an open mind whenever I travel to a new park, and don't set my expectations too high. For those of you that just can't take flat rides, I'm sorry that you won't be able to experience this ride, but you do have 13(?) other coasters.

LOL! I completely agree Shaggy. I don't think I could ever get enough of a topic about PKI or TRTR which, I have gotten a ton of proof that says it is still definitely not a Huss Giant ride, will still be superb in it's own. I would guess Mr. Hart is faking and is in on it as well. But if it is, like 2Hostyl and Homey G. "Oooooo! Look at all the pretty theming and colors! Wow! Oh, sorry. Enjoy the ride. Here's my exit(heading down the chicken shoot)." I don't particularly enjoy spin and pukes either. I can stand all of PKI's current collection and their types but getting to those giant Huss loopy thingy's, I'm outta there! And you should thank me for that! ;)
About no big coaster in 2003, a little birdie told me that PKI still wants to have at least one coaster in each of their respective lands. We have International Street and Waterworks left. I can't see them removing International Showplace anytime soon, so do you think we could expect a 'saturating' experience from down south in 2003? Hmm... I could be wrong though. Let's just hope I'm not since a small Waterworks expansion is on the to-do list... Water coaster or Royal Flush anyone?
Lastly, to all of you 'disappointed' by this addition, just look back to possibly the greatest and most diverse five year expansion towards a well-rounding family atmosphere and thrilling destination in any park's history.
1998: Scooby's Ghoster Coaster- Caripro family suspended coaster
1999: Face/Off-One of the first ivertigos built
Drop Zone-Built as World's Tallest Gyro Drop Tower
2000: Son of Beast- World's Tallest, Fastest, and Only Looping Wooden Roller Coaster
2001: Rugrat's Runaway Reptar- World's first junior inverted roller coaster
Wild Thornberrie's River Adventure- the overwhelming rebirth of the log flume with quality, eye-catching theming and complete restoration of riders and spectators
7th Portal- "Semi-permanant" replacement to James Bond at the FX Theatre with outstanding 3D effects and completely immersive producton
Smash Factory- PKI's continuation of suitable family attractions as another temporary option in the motion theatre experience
Flight of Fear- total reincarnation of a coaster notorious for headbanging and worst 10 lists to world-class thrill ride phenomenon through additon of a simple lap bar style restraint
2002: Tomb Raider:The Ride-most expensive single additon in the park's 30 year history to be a revolutionary themed experience
Meteor Attack-replacement to the one year old Smash Factory at the FX Theatre replicating a frantic trip through outer space
An Innovative Upcharge Simulator from Ham on Rye
I'm sure I'm missing a few such as the ever-changing shows, but I think we get the picture. Like to add anything Shaggy or Sean? Anyone else feel free as well.
