Tomb Raider at PKI: Questions answered!

Gee...I wonder if PKI will let this ride go to the dumps. I'm not saying they will but I could only imagine how neat and cool Splash Mountain looked before the "gum walls" where stuck on.(pun intended). I just hope that nothing happens to the ride and PKI preserves it well. Tyhe theming looks tight and I really don't want to see it trashy looking. I'll make sure of it wehn I ride it in May...
Which Splash Mountain were "gum walls" put on and when? I have ridden all 3 Slpash Mountains in the last 3 years, and don't remember them. I'm assuming that you mean plexiglass walls were put up somewhere in the ride? I'm curious, please let me know!

so technically, since TR:TR isnt a coaster..and this is COASTERbuzz..we shouldn't talk about it.

Just kidding. I think it sounds like an awesome ride. I want to go and ride it.

Rob

If the world was perfect, we would have a rollercoaster at every corner.

Nick,

The 'face first plunge' isn't exactly a plunge like a coaster, but.............well, you will understand when you ride it. Think more along the lines of a 'sustained descent with a nice twist'. =:^)

Danny,

See what happens when I post after riding something a lot. Actually, I did mean to confuse some people but to be honest, the flips are not as many as Vortex, but more than CP's Corkscrew. =:^) As far as backward flips..... let's just say there isn't a ton of backward flips so you should be fine.

Mamoosh,

Nope. I didn't ride in my birthday suit (?). Remember, it was pretty cool outside and it wouldn't have looked good if I had just walked off the ride in that nature.....with the cameras and all. .

Joey,

The ride exit is on the other side of The Beast so you can't see much. (don't comment on that Matthew)

Brandon,

I am not sure if they ran a different program or not but your description doesn't match the same program I got. Perhaps they can change them.........but I am confused how considering what happens. However, out of all the 7 rides I got on it yesterday, it was the same program. Sitting in the front for the first time made it feel like a brand new program at first, but it wasn't.

As far as Angelina actually riding, sorry to say but I don't think it was her. There was a VERY close Laura look-a-like, but she wasn't the actual actress from the movie. Believe me, if she were there.............I would still be there. =:^)

Shaggy,

Nice way to put it. You are exactly correct. I had a blast hanging out with you yesterday and I hope you enjoyed the tape.

Question! How long is the actual ride portion (while you are on the top spin)?

What I meant by the gum wall is that people put there gum on the walls and it makes the ride look trashy.

remember though, it is a GIANT top spin!!

that doesnt really make much difference though, does it?!

Well SecondSon, I tend to consider your opinion worthless until you've actually been on the ride. I also think your vision of what makes a good ride to be entirely too narrow.

Harkar,

The actual ride portion lasted around 2 min, 30 seconds.

Giant isn't the word, THIS THING IS HUGE!

I loved the ride, Loved the effects, I think the Hang Time is a little too much though!

Chuck, saying TR:TR is unlike anything he's ridden and liked it alot.

Americana is opening in 2002 and needs your support as many company picnics are already schedualed for someplace else, Indivdual visits are very improtant to the parks survival.

I rode TR:TR today, and I thought it was an absolutly awesome experience. I wanted to ride it again but my cousing wanted to ride something since he`s 50 inches tall. Boy, riding Son of Beast in this weather is extremly cold. A little off subject, but they were dismantling the roof of King Cobra`s station today.

-----------------
I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

Tomb Raider was indeed a very well put together ride. I rode it today and I thought that the themeing was very well done. From the webs to the floor of where you stand. I counted 4 flips during the ride. At least one was a backwards flip. The hang time was a good amout. There are sudden drops and flips. I hope PKI keeps the themeing in good condition. I already saw some people spiting on the walls and droping things below the line you wait in. The ride is sorta short as I remember, but then again, I was having a LOT of fun during the ride so I lost track of time. Good times DO go fast!

Yea, the ride portion saved PKI's ass. I wasn't impressed with the preshows as long as the spent on them. Yea the walls and stuff look great, but wheres the "sensory overload" I mean ya the lights and stuff are cool but watching scenes from a movie i've seen 30 times doesn't cut it with me.

I rode it twice as well today, and I really liked it too.

I guess I might be in a minority, but I actually enjoyed the hanging. It was unusual. The spinning wasn't bad. Only once did it 'get to me', where I felt the spin.

The rest is in my trip report....

Overall, a big thumbs up!

Chris

this ride is simply unbelievable. i knew what to expect and was still totally blown away. the dive into the lava pit blew my mind! it was too cool! kudos to pki, their marketing team, and the tomb raider ride crew! they are doing a great job with this new ride.

I wonder if anyone's lost their keys in the "lava" yet. My hand went right to my pocket to make sure that didn't happen!

What is this "lava"? Can someone explain like where it is on the ride or what it does?

Anyways, can someone please explain what happens i order on the ride IN DETAIL? I really want to know what happens including the pre-show, what is in the queue line, and what other people(pki ride-ops)have to do with the ride. I've seen pictures of people dressed as archaeologists and i don't exactly know there role in the pre-show yet. Could someone please explain?

Well once you enter the cave you are in a modified queue line, then you are devided up into 3 lines a total of 77 people, then door for the 2nd chamber opens you go in, the door shuts the lights go off, then a T.V. screen pops up and you watch a short movie, then the door to the main chamber opens and you get on the ride.

The ride-ops clothes are part of the theming.

I'm going to PKI tomorrow to ride TR:TR and I haven't seen Tomb Raider (the movie) yet. For those of you who've been on the ride and have seen the movie, do you think it would it make the ride more enjoyable/understandable if I went and rented the movie tonight? (Please no comments about Angelina Jolie making the movie worth watching.. ;) )
