Tomb Raider at PKI: Questions answered!

Is the part of the ride were you get we will be at the very end and what will the drop be like? Will it be steep and fast?

ShiveringTim, when I went there last year it was quite warm in the middle 80's so I think that would be perfect to get wet ;).

Thanks for the report Steph! Did you notice any new buildings in Rivertown(besides TRTR of course)?

And on a loose guess, about how many times would you say you flip and is there any like over and over intense flipping? That's what I'm worried about the most. I don't mind being hung upside down for an hour, but if they're uncontrollibly flipping me, I might pass. Or maybe I'll try a Dramamine first, lol.

Also, besides the ride room, how many total pre-show rooms are there where you stop? I think you said 2 but I thought the park said 3 or 4.

Anything else new you noticed at the park? Did you say an "intensity rating" for TRTR? I think they're doing this at PKI this year and I think they rate them 1 through 5 in intensity. Thanks!

So this is a giant huss top spin ride, is hammerhead at knott's also a giant top spin? are hammerhead and TR:TR the same size?

"Somewhere in all of these TR:TR threads, I somewhat remember something about different restraints. Is it something other than a horsecollar holding you in? "

If the world was perfect, we would have a rollercoaster at every corner.

One thing I want to add is that I only rode it twice today, but both rides were different. They made a change in programming, which I expect will change throughout a normal day at the park. Also, from talking with everybody, I would have to say that getting wet is a random occurence, no seat/row is worse, especially when they're changing the ride around. I thought I'd post a couple photos from this morning if anybody is interested:

I hope that one works.

Tyler, those pics aren't working for me for some reason. Anyone else having a problem with them?

Hmm......I didn't notice any new buildings or other things throughout the park. Although, I don't have a keen eye as some enthusiasts do. I was also overwhelmed with the TR stuff going on about the park. Combine those with a short attention span and you've got trouble!

Well, there are technically four rooms...they are counting the tunnel enterance (modified queue line), the antechamber, the shrine and then the heart of the tomb (with the ride). I said two other rooms (aside from the room with the ride - that's a given) because I don't consider the queue line as a "room."

I couldn't give an accurate guess for the number of flips that riders complete. I'd say more than two, but less than 10! A few of those flips come after the hanging part of the sequence.

Thanks Steph! I think I've decided that I will definitely ride no matter how many times it flips forwards, but if I'm rolling over backwards a lot, I'll just enjoy the pre-shows and queue, lol.

If you look carefully at the sign in this picture:
http://www.pkiguide.com/news/040302/8.jpg
It looks like there is an intensity rating of "4".

I have a question: Could I take my 3 year-old through the first part of the ride up to the top spin itself? Then my wife would take her out (that's the chicken chute, right?). I know she can, but would the first part be safe/appropriate for a 3 year-old?

Thanks!

what is a chicken chute?

This thread was the first time I've seen the term "chicken chute". What I've gathered from the others' use, I suspect it is an exit after going through the cue... in case you "chicken out". However, I could be wrong.

Yes, the first two areas are definitely family-friendly. A three year-old may be a bit scared of the statues and the darkness, but the movie is acceptable for all age groups. However, YOU should be the judge of your OWN child. Use your best judgement. If your child is fearful or timid, then it would not be a good idea to take him/her on any part of the ride.

The chicken chute (an exit before you physically get on the ride - a great option for those who do not want to or cannot ride) is connected to the ride's exit so all parties can meet up after the ride is complete.

Hope this helps.....

Chicken chute is where you leave before the ride. Like on roller coasters where you cross over the train.

Chris R....I definitely remember PKI saying there WOULD be a "chicken door"....I think they probably had a less demeaning name for it though...

If it says Angelina Jolie's Dressing room on the door, FORGET THE RIDE :)

Americana is opening in 2002 and needs your support as many company picnics are already schedualed for someplace else, Indivdual visits are very improtant to the parks survival.

Hammerhead at Knotts is a Zamperla Rotoshaker, which can also be found at The Mall of America and Six Flags America. Check out the Huss website for pictures of a Topspin.

The word "definitely" is definitely the most misspelled word on the buzz.

Danny,

Yea, I found the attraction to be a blast! So did many others. I didn't find it to be too spinny, but it will let you know you have ridden it. Especially if you sit in the first row (line up on the left side in room 2 for that)

Dennis,

While I did get soaked on my first ride, I didn't get wet at all on my second ride and I was sitting in the same exact seat. Later in the day the water effects were toned down so no one was getting splashed. I do think the water effects add to the ride so just be prepared if you do decided to check it out and they are on.

Scott,

I would say I was pretty darned soaked, but I think that was completely random due to the nature of the ride. It's hard to explain.

Bilelele,

Trust me, it's so much more than just theming for a ride. At least, that is how I see it.

Chris,

A- That all depends

B.Yes, there is a chicked chute with a sign saying this will be your last chance to exit.

C. If I had to rate, it would be WAY up there with regards to theming. The theming increases drastically with each room you go in.

D. There is quite a lot to focus on. However, just be prepared to lose a sense of direction during it. I still can't believe how large that final room is! Just wait until you see the size of the actual vehicle! HUGE!

E. The restraints are much different than those on a similar ride. The restraints on TR are OTSR with a seat belt. You feel very secure in them. They do hug you quite a bit.

F. Rivertown looks AMAZING now. Just wait until you see how this thing fits in. I think it looks awesome. Some other improvements have been made to make the whole are look great.

G. Yes there is a on-ride photo but it wasn't working available today.

Coastrman2004,

I don't know who came up with the "wheeled vehicle" term but it wasn't the park.

Spacecase,

Nice way to put it. Thanks to the amazing thematics of this ride, it really does put a new twist on something done. Too bad there are some of those that have already written the ride off because they truly are going to miss something special. The reaction from the GP was fantastic!

IOA Rules,

They could have not said anything about the ride but it is on such a large scale that they were SUPER excited about it. For some reason, it only seems like enthusiasts are looking at this attraction as "just a ride in a box" when it truly is SO much more.

Steph,

Thanks for your review. I do agree that the actual ride portion seemed short, but after timing it, it really isn't all that short. I timed it at 2min 30sec from start to finish. Due to all the things that happen during the ride, it made the time fly by. If it were a very long ride, my guess is it would not have a lot of re-rides. Each ride I got on it I liked it even more. That last ride with a full vehicle was great.Nice seeing you today.

pkifan,

The wait after the masses showed up was long, but since this thing holds 77 people, it can be a people eater.

Danny,

As far as flipping, let's just say it isn't as much as Vortex, but more than Batman: The Ride. =:^)

As far as bringing in children. Please note that the pre-ride area is VERY dark including one area that is 'none more black'. Those that are afraid of the dark may have a problem.

My guess is that most of those that would normally not ride something of this nature will like the ride a lot.

-Sean

How much trouble would a larger size person have with the restraints?

TR:TR looks amazing inside and out. The theming of Rivertown looks as though it not only has redeemed the Rivertown feel, but has been revitalized with this new attraction! I would like to know what the "face first plunge" was like. Gotta go but those pics look fantastic! May 11th 02 will be a day I wont soon forget.
