Time for a Magnum love thread

I like Magnum, it's fast, it's got tons of air, it's a great ride. especially if you sit in car 1 row 3

------------------------------------------------------------

Man: This is the best ride in the park, the airtime is just awesome

(while Going up lift hill)

Kid: are you a coaster enthusiast or something

(Cresting the top of the lifthill)

Man: no, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night

The shaking on Maggie gives me the willies. It's kinda like the thing is gonna fall apart.

It still has the best bunny hops IMO.

Time seems to stand still on the top of its second hill. All is calm up there. Something different in comparison to the rest of the ride.

I think Magnum’s location really makes the ride. When you ride at night, after Soak City has closed, you feel like you have left the rest of the park behind. There is nothing but you, the ride, and the beach,. The best rides I ever got on a coaster, anywhere, where on Magnum during Millennium Mania two years ago. It was a cool night, there was a full moon, and the trim brake was turned off. Talk about pure coaster heaven.

Magnum rocks! It's a great way to start a day out at Cedar Point. While everyone is over waiting in line for MF...just go over to Magnum and marathon it for a good hour or so. It's airtime is so insane in the ejector seat that on my on ride photos, my head was usually off camera. How can it not be a good ride if it pitches you so high you are standing up?

Some of you complain about the roughness of the ride? That's the whole out of control feeling in the turnaround. It's a very intense turn with nice laterals that is set before some killer bunny hills.

The only way I can see this ride hurting you legs is if you pull the bar down too far or are stapled. Staple Nazis are evil, and should be disposed of, but if you get a little room between the bar, you should have a great, painless ride.

I just rode Magnum 8 times yesterday, and it delivers everytime. If you have ridden Magnum and don't think it lives up to it's hype, then ride it again in the 1st car, 3rd seat. I think it may sway your opinion.

This year at CoasterMania, I was in the ejector seat at night, and the trims were off. I had a better ride on Maggie that time than on any of my 40+ times on MF. The ride felt like we were going 70 mph the whole course! Now if only someone would wedge somthing between those calipers...:)

I'll be honest. I rode Magnum in 2000, and hated it. I thought it was rough as hell, too painful to enjoy, and I'd have none of it.

However, yesterday I finally got back to the Point, and decided to give her another chance, sitting in 1-3 no less.

Wow

Tons of air, bumpy, but nowhere near rough, just really really fun. I was shouting and laughing the whole time. There was a 40something (methinks) guy sitting beside me for that first ride yesterday, and he was giggling like a schoolgirl, having a great time. Fun ride, coupled with ops who show the true Point spirit (unlike some others I witnessed... one almost got seriously injured, but I won't get into that), Magnum is an awesome ride.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! My dikfus.

Why does every CP ride deserve a love thread whenever someone speaks their opinion?

I am tired of these love threads. Save Whizzer, Take out Shockwave....Save Shockwave take out Iron Wolf.

Alright, I am faily new to the enthusiast world becoming a full blow enthusiast in late 99. Magnum to me is the most over rated caoster ever. It has a great first drop a good second hill and a good third hill. After that the lap bars ruin all the airtime. The airtime is not ejector like you all say it is, it is more like a jerk into the bar, the bunnies are slow and the ramp hills are annoying. this is the first hyper and in it's day was prolly awesome. What i can garentee you is that if you say that magnum has the most extreme air in the world you have never riden sros at sfne. This coaster gave me bruises. Yes bruises on my legs from being forced unrelenlessly into the t bar at almost leg busting force. Magnums excuse for ejector air only feels like this so some people because of how hard and uncomfy the lap bars are. Just like you can pull four g's in a beema train and have it feel the same as about 2 in a gerstrauler train. Comfort. Maggies forces are not nearly as strong as they feel and if you do manage to ride with room as i managed one ride you can feel by the seatbelt that the airtime is not much more intence then mf's air on the first camelback. The is not even close to being well engineered like some of antons coaster's bult years before it. The pretzel and bunnies hurt and the rest vibrates. It is however a good ride and has it's place. Anybody who thinks it is better then the force neeeds to get their head checked. Anybody who thinks the force has no air also needs to get their head checked. I am going to go eat popcorn now, thank you and good night.

Maggie is better then Millie can I have my head examined now?

BTW Phantom beats them both.

Sorry for posting twice in like, ten minutes, but while reading the posts after I wrote my own, I have a message to Helios:

NITRO SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to bash a coaster, but when you bash a coaster that has SOOOOO much air, and put it in place of a coaster that can barely climb its hills, well.....that's a shame, and I am soooo sorry you don't have the same tastes for coasters as me.

Nitro has less hills then maggie but every single hill is filled with super high quality flojector air that lifts you gently then pushes you into the bar fairly hard. Nitro is much steeper, faster, more rerideable and comfortable, and has far superior airtime to magnum. It does not barly climb the hills it crests each of them at axactly the perfect speed for the radius of the top and the steepness of the hil causing according to a B&M pressrealease -.2 g's on every hill. You want a coaster that is engineered to perrfection, go ride nitro, every ride will be good. When you go ride magnum, getting a good ride is a crap shoot because it was not engineered well and based on two days of riding it at cp can be almost as smooth as meanstreak one day :-\ and as rough as a togo the next. NEVER bash B&M please, we all know that they ar emuch better and more fun then toomer era arrows.

Alas Toomer came along 30 years before B and M. So that argument doesn't hold up too well.

Seems you are bashing someone for saying Nitro is bad when you are saying Maggie is bad. To each his own.

It was on OK ride when I rode it but I certainly don't think it should be on any Top 10 lists anymore, there are simply too many other, seemingly better thrills out there right now. Same with Raptor.

Anyone that thinks Magnum is rough needs to go south about 3 hours...nearly every coaster at PKI is rougher, and not many people complain about it. It's just that CP's coasters are extra smooth so that anything that vibrates a little is deemed rough.

I think it's funny how people complain about the restraints of the ride. The lapbars don't hurt you unless you staple yourself, and this it's your fault. If the hills are pitching you into the restraint, that's intense ejector air...those bruises would be a testiment to that. Magnum's ejector air is killer...plain and simple.

Remember back in the day, you know, like 10 years ago when people never *****ed about the roughness of ride because a coaster was meant to beat you around? Back when the newer coasters hadn't desensitized people into thinking anything that wasn't highway smooth as being too rough?

CPGenius, CP's coasters(aside from MF), aren't smoother than any other park, I'd say they're pretty average. And regarding Magnum, you have no choice other than to be stapled, the lapbars do it automatically.:)

CP doesn't have smooth coasters?

Blue Streak-smooth
CCMR-smooth
Corkscrew-no headbanging
Disaster Transport-how COULD it be rough?
Gemini-Smooth
Iron Draggon-smooth
Magnum-even this old guy thought it was smooth
Mantis-only one touch to the OTSR in the corkscrew
mean streak-rough
raptor-no headbanging
wildcat and woodstock-of course they're smooth

So...to me, it does seem like CP has smoother coasters than the average park. The only roughness was in Mean Streak, and it isn't all that bad if you don't sit over the wheels or in the front seat.

TOGO!

Nitro will have the same following as does Magnum...in possibly 15 years. And then those that say "Oh Magnum is rough" will be saying that same thing about Nitro. No coaster is designed to be smooth as when it first opened, and those that disagree will just have to find out the hard way. It took me 5 years from when Magnum first opened to summon the courage to ride it. What a ride it was. Clickety-click to the top and then the drop. My favorite part is the turn around.

I have not experienced such a butterfly nervousness for a coaster until MF came. Of course I rode MF in the first few weeks it was open, but as I say after riding MF and Magnum...you have to surgically remove the smile from my face when I get off the ride. Perhaps the people complaining about the roughness of Maggie should tighten that lap bar some.

Seems to me this a highly CP fan site with most of the attention going to CP, and the rest dribbled upon every other park.

And people keep comparing Magnum to Nitro which is pointless and I tell you why. Magnum is an Arrow creation while B&M designed Nitro. Magnum is considerably older than Nitro. What was Nitro the first to do? The questions and the comparisons on to how these two coaster are dissimilar rather than similar can go on and on.

But I feel that those people that say "I Hate..." in a "I Love..." thread are doing so because its there.

Well, PT300, IMO, the parks only truly smooth coasters are Raptor, MF, Mantis, and Gemini. I found Magnum to be pretty rough, as well as Blue Streak, which I can't see how you could consider smooth.(not to say it's a bad ride, but I didn't find it smooth by any means) Corkscrew and CCMR both have very jerky trainsitions and such, therefore I don't consider them smooth either. Also, I actually found Mean Streak to be pretty smooth, so I'm not surprised that my opinion differs from yours.:)
